The thigh area is fine as long as you get the medicine on the birds skin. I've been using Scatt for years and there is no problem putting it on the thigh area

Yes but it takes longer for the birds to get cured from Air SAC MITES. They sell the SCATT to put in the water but from my understanding takes about 30 days to clear up

Usually within 24hrs but may take up to 2 to 4 days for birds that are more sick

@@lagirl6874 If the bird is too sick sometimes they can't come back from it. If the bird is very sick, You have to place the bird in a hospital cage with a heat lamp after you apply the Scatt

Sorry for the late response. One good way to tell if your bird has Mites, you will hear your bird sneeze a lot and wipe its beak on the perches. bird is sleeping during the day. bird gasping for air then you know at that point the bird has Air sac Mites.

I will treat them because they have been exposed, better safe than sorry. I will then treat the birds again 21 days after the 1st treatment to kill the rest of the eggs that are left in the birds lungs

If the bird has a real bad case of AIR SAC MITES it can take up to one week to clear but at the same time the bird will need a heat lamp in a hospital cage. Do not treat the bird again for AIR SAC MITES unless its 21 days later. The medicine is very strong and it can kill the bird. Also you must apply 1 drop of the medicine on the skin of the birds thigh area.

Medicine starts to take effect immediately. If the bird is not too sick, the turn around time for full recovery 24hrs to 2 days. If the birds is too sick, bird needs to be placed in a small hospital cage with a heat lamp to help recover. They need heat when they are after treatment. Can take up to a week for the bird to get better. Remember 1 drop on the thigh area. Not on the feathers

No bird will be ok. They make this product to mix in the water as well

Sometimes they know when the eggs are bad and they will kick them and sometimes they can push them out by accident from going in and out of the nest box

More than likely it's deficiencies in the bird and not just a bad egg. Make sure they have live insects during breeding or you'll see a lot of chick tossing and bad parenting. along with calcium in several sources including their water and you'll see far better success. @@Batman-on6gn

@@TheRootMessage Gouldians don't need live insects. I've raised many Gouldians and they do fine with a high protein food, in addition to regular seed. Most Gouldians are picky and won't eat live insects. But live food is great for most other finches.

Diatomaceous earth is not a good idea because these are air sac mites (in their lungs) and it would get stuck in their lungs, and cause choking and lung damage. Scatt or similar Ivermectin-based products are the only way to go. Not all finches need to be treated but Gouldians are especially susceptible to air sack mites.

Bacterial infections can cause the same things but they tend to be a direct result of the finch not eating as much or as well. Masses or lumps in the crop or neck of your finch can also be a sign of protozoa, not bacteria

Yes But puffing up is normal. If the bird is sleeping during the day a lot, If you see the bird gasping for air is another sign, Sneezing and appearing real weak

They will Puff up when they are trying to keep warm but not all the time when they puff up means they have it

Thank-you so much for posting this. It really shows how to apply it. I just got 4 Gouldian Finches & have a question for you about another topic. Have you ever had Gouldians to be 'stargazer' or 'stargazing'. The 1st day here in their cage I noticed one finch doing it. Now I have 2. Everything I can find on the Web says that if not seen by an Avian Vet.that the condition usually gets worse leading to death. The finches were flown & shipped from a Breeder in Florida. No one knows what happened on the way to me but 50% have it. And I may have more & just cannot catch all of them doing it. They can perch, looks like they are eating & drinking fine. I was just wondering if you or anyone you know have had to deal with it & what was possible outcome. Thank-you for any advice. Calling Avian Vet in morning to get an appt. I cannot just sit back & do nothing. I'm not that type of person. Thank-you for your time.

My gouldians laid 6 eggs and they been sitting on for 2 days but this morning I see a Broken Egg bottom of the cage why they tossing the egg out ?
