Whoa great video explaining what Aira is and how it works! I only heard of them through one of the comments you left on my videos and hadn't gotten around to looking them up yet. This was a great intro to their services and business model. In 2021 I was actually part of a project to create something quite similar to Aira - a navigation service meant to help the vision impaired. We got all the way to designing working prototypes and starting to apply for grants before I (as one of the project leads) made the executive decision to pull the plug on it because the math simply didn't make sense. Even if we were extremely frugal and lean, the project was already costing more than $300k with $0 spent on customer service and $0 spent on safety / cybersecurity infrastructure. Another one of my fellow project leads was very adamant that commercial partnerships would generate us enough cash flow but after laying out our costs, eventually I think even they realised there was absolutely no way commercial customers would be able to get us enough revenue in a reasonable amount of time. TLDR creating scalable, high-tech solutions to benefit minority groups like people with disabilities is super super hard.
