On this week's episode of Under10Hours, we take a look at the other game Criterion made alongside Burnout. This was an action sports title with a story that took place in the future. Airblade is the futuristic board that runs off of an alternative to fuel, and you have to get away with the board before the evil corporation can get its grubby hands on it.

I remember getting this for Christmas and the graphics blew my mind - I couldn't imagine how graphics could get any more realistic at the time.

I'm one of the people you describe at the beginning of this video. I loved Airblade as a kid and didn't get into burnout until Burnout 3. I had these friends who were twins and the 3 of us had a lot of fun doing the multiplayer as well as taking turns. I loved the fusion of Tony Hawk style gameplay in a dystopian future city. The levels felt like distinct places but they were built with gameplay and mobility in mind. It was so cool.

I found out about Criterion when I first played Suzuki Alstare Extreme Racing on the Dreamcast (aka Redline Racer). They definitely improved on their ability to develop racing games after that lmfao

I remember the PS2 demo disc with this. Think the console came with it? It was great.

I always thought Airblade was the (sort of) sequel to Trickstyle on the Dreamcast?

You’re right! I missed that when I was reviewing the game but now that you bring it up, it’s definitely something I want to check out

This video reminded me that I rented this game from Blockbuster about a week before it closed down and never returned it. It still has the rental sticker on the disc

@@Under10Hours I unfortunately don't remember much from the game other than that sticker even with watching the video but this looks like a game I would have liked, I was already (and still am) a huge fan of Burnout so I always liked Criterion's stuff

@@UberLoaf nice! It’s pretty cheap these days so if you’re interested in it, it’s worth a few bucks. Or you you could play it by…other means

This actually looks like an interesting game to try out It's sad how I tend to ignore Criterion games because of the NFS games they developed; Black for the PS2/Xbox was amazing though. Not as amazing as barnyard but still

It’s certainly a game that tried some stuff. Like most titles like this, I would love to see a second game where they built on what they had.

@@Under10Hours This could be a very interesting conversation as I don`t think we`ll get game like that anymore unless it's an indie dev doing it. I feel like publishers only bet on safe things now, either that or ubisoft but they screw up every different game they make

@@BlooTeg Yeah I feel like AAA dev costs are so high that they only make the broadest appealing games

The first time I played was YEARS ago and yeah everything you said in the video pretty much describes what this game was like, but I did enjoy it for what it was especially since you can unlock different playable characters and they all had an entirely different set of tricks.

Oh man, so much nostalgia watching this. I remember getting this for christmas in 2001, and I loved it so much. The controls were clunky, and the difficulty was kinda uneven, but I certainly loved the immense feeling of mastery when I first completed the story. I distinctly remember the freaking rooftop level as being a pain, and I spent a whole day completing the final mission, but the feeling of completion was something I think I only experienced from this and Super Meat Boy. Thanks for rewiewing this, awesome to see this game again!

Reminds me of airboarders 64. Hard to get used to the controls but if you take the time it’s a alright game. Takes a wile to string together conbos but it’s possible… at least when I was 10 it’s was

This game was so overtly difficult. The controls were tough, the objectives were tough, and the payoff for completing it wasn’t (in my opinion) super worth it. You want a hover board game, try Streaks on the PS1

Great to talk about this. After Citerion made Tricksytle, which was a let down, they made this and I think it's underrated.
