The revised 1990 version of the recruiting film.
To aid navy recruiters, program vividly illustrates the challenging and demanding training program that comprises the Aviation Officer Candidate School, NAS, Pensacola, FL from one participant's viewpoint. Using a subjective camera technique, this program appropriately emphasizes and clearly conveys the backbone of aviation. Reasons for strict discipline, physical training, classroom instruction and becoming a team player are also demonstrated. "Navy owned, Marine Corps trained"

Gunnery Sergeant Holt, United States Marine Corps, was known as the Anti-Christ. He was PTing his class (23-89 I believe) in 'Hell' one day when condensation starting falling from the ceiling. He said, "It's raining in Hell!! Maybe I can make it snow. Mountain Climbers!! Do it!!"

I was in class 24-89er - Staff Sergeant Carl Matthews, United States Marine Corps was our 'Dad'. We started with ~84, graduated ~42, of which around half were of the original class. Gunnery Sergeant Holt PTed the hell out of me for smiling in the chow hall. First Sergeant Carlton Kent was also part of the D.I. contingent as well. He went on to be a Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps. I have the deepest respect for these Marines. I served 22 years as a Naval Aviator, retiring in 2012 and never forgot for 1 minute that I was Marine Corps trained.

Jimmy Dickens1, felt that pain. Last AVROC class, 16A-90 reported 28 June 90; met the anti-Christ in the Regimental classroom for 5 minutes of "who the hell was that??" hit-and-run PT on day 1, then had Ssgt Matthews for his next-to-last class (that tour). 50 went in, only 26 came out. Even today, "just get 'em" makes me twitch toward mountain climbers, while any game spinner reminds me of the "wheel of pain." Told us at the end he hated running...what if he'd loved it?? Awesome experience to be from.

Honor Class 01-90 "Holt's Final Disciples" and I'm at the very tail end of my career. Simply remarkable to be able to see the "Anti-Christ" motivating future Naval Aviators as I can reflect on 24 years of Naval Service. To this day, one of the most inspiring moments of my life was having Gy Holt line us up to convey the news that the Berlin Wall had come down. I truly owe him a debt of gratitude for helping to mold a cocky punk into a young Naval Office.

I almost forgot about how the women just got to run up to the 12 ft wall & touch it, then run around it. And then for the next obstacle instead of an 8 foot wall, they got a 5 ft wall + a longer time to complete the O course. I went through Naval Aircrewman Candidate School (not AOCS) in the summer of 1990. BTW - I remember being in the hangar one day and a crusty first class petty officer got irriated with some smart ass E-4 and referred to him as a "punky cock" - the reverse of the phrase you used but just as effective.

They used officer candidates from my AOCS class (07-89) for the film because we were only a few days from graduating and weren't very busy at that point. It was fun for us because we were working with GYSGT Holt in a different way than we were used to--no real pressure, unlike the usual stress of AOCS. In fact, 07's actual drill sergeant was GYSGT F.X. Donahue, but the film crew decided to use Holt. Good choice--he really was that terrifying. Worse, actually, in real life.

My first introduction to then Staff Sergeant Holt was with Class 09-88 in January 1988 with a 0500 wake up call that included a Marine Alarm Clock (metal trash can lid and billie club). We soon learned the Hell Room in the Batt I barracks after completing the Poopy Death March and after a while looked at it with a sick sense of pride in that no other class had a Hell Room where they could get stronger by the minute. LOL! "Snap and pop", "Eye of the Tiger", and "I'll tell ya what there candidate" are all GYSGT Holt catch phrases that I'll always remember. Gunnery Sergeant Steven C. Holt, USMC was every bit the Anti Christ and I'm thankful he was my Drill Instructor.

I was in class 06-90. GYSGT Woodring was our Dad , but we were all terrified of the ‘Holtergeist’. The reality is we had no reason to fear any of them, They’re job was to make us into warriors, and they did. Woodring, Holt, Matthews, Kent, Ford, Donahue. Gamballi, Imenez. They all contributed to our success. We all earned our wings, but they made it possible. All these years later I have at least as much respect for all the Staff, Gunny, and First Sergeants I knew as any Staff officers I ever met.

I was an enlisted in the Army at Pensacola at the time. We used to go to NAS and watch the DIs yell at officers and think, poor guys, they probably thought when they joined as officers they wouldn't have to do this shit. Then they would get in their dress unis and come over to NTTC and try to get us to salute. I remember one that tried to dress me down, to which I informed him, come back at graduation and I'll gladly render my respect, until that time hit the bricks candidate. He wasn't happy, and I never saw him again after that; kind of wished he'd have come back for that salute, I would have been as good as my word. - lol Sad part is I went back there a few years ago and all those buildings are pretty much gone or completely renovated due to the hurricane. I remember when the survival school was also a museum you could visit. Now it's completely separate; asked a candidate where the where they did carrier 'quals' now that there wasn't a carrier in P-Cola anymore, he informed me they don't even really fly there anymore either.

I remember in Naval Aircrew Candidate School @9:06 taking a picture after graduation in front of that bird which is now a different fighter. Down the street is the Navy Yard where I’d eat chow with the boys before swimming in flight gear. The next scene is literally the ‘ol Aircrew barracks. I’d march all of my Marines in that exact spot there every morning facing the same way. How times haven’t changed.

Lou Gossett wasn't very good in that role. Maybe you had to be an AOC to notice that. GySgt Welcher USMC, who was at AOCS in the fall of '80 when I was an AOC, was a technical adviser for the movie and was actually in the movie briefly when a class came "running on by..." I remember most of the drill instructors who were there at the time. Welcher, SSgt Macias, Sgt Farley who later came back as an AOC and was a Navy Pilot, SSgt Hatcher, GySgt Clark (?), SSgt Brown. All great leaders in my book. Sgt Farley was such a character, hid in a locker of a classmate who left his lock open and exploded out of the locker when the AOC opened it . We counted off on the veranda BEFORE marching into chow and beating the hell out of that metal plate in the doorway. "Hatchbody, snatch the hatch" Good times and bad times. I'd love to do it again! Shoots and flys 13-89 here... Holt pt'd me till I puked in the Rose Garden over bad brass! Whoo hoo! How many in your class survived Mach 2 Donahue??? That dude was brutal. Holt was hard, but damn fair. You had to respect him.

If any of our classmates from 09-89 that are all over this film. Gunney Holt, Antichrist is classic. Does anyone have the tryout bootleg DI tryout video video we got a hold of , SSGT Hudson roast, for our graduation party, get a hold of me. I saw Parker in the classroom, Dowd in the classroom, I'm shining shoes, and SSGT Robbins is screaming at us in the obstacle course. Matwichuck, Parker, Dowd, Dion, keep in touch
