Thanks Andrew! its really a quick process. I think my regular cleaning is less than 30 seconds. when im painting regular my airbrushes stay running pretty well... only when i occasionally forget one do i get problems. my poor eclipse was a victim of me doing some tests with a few airbrushes and that one got set down without a clean at all :/

Airbrushing is way easier to store a lot of colors than cans.. and lasts a lot longer too. cleaning waterbased is really not that difficult. Cans have their place.. and excell at some things. (graffiti murals for instance) And I use some cans.. but thats a lot of overspray and mess to deal with for models. What scale models are you doing?

Now as I showed here, i may tilt the cup forward with the needle out and through the cup still flush some liquid in that's normal. But if you mean from the rear of the airbrush dont do it. there should in a perfect world never be anything but air in that area. Unless your needle packing has allowed paint through that area should never be loaded up with paint. Now over time there will be some paint buildup in the needle bearing/packing area. But even with me being far less than meticulous about cleaning, ive only a few times needed to remove those parts on my airbrushes. and thats over 9 years. I have airbrushes ive used for years that have never had the needle packing removed or the area behind them cleaned in any way. And trust me when I say at times i'm not even nearly as good about cleaning as I showed here. I leave paint in airbrushes for hours at a time often. Now with all that said.. you could with naked gun cleaner/ or 3m gun cleaner stick the needle tube up to the packing and shoot through there tilting down. That does leave a possibility of that solvent getting to the air valve. but its pretty low risk and evaporates very quickly. The naked gun cleaner works fabulously... but its definitely a not indoor product and will splash solvent .
