I used to work for one of the largest HVAC / Plumbing companies.. I know a little about air exchanges :) Interestingly enough MOST commercial buildings even without HEPA Level filtration generally have better air quality than the outdoors more often than not. As houses get tighter and tighter they are moving along to fresh air exchangers.. Im sure they are going to talk about HRVs. Its a good class you should get some fresh insight .

Thank you. I could hear you just fine with your mask on. I use only acrylics, and recycle all my thinners and cleaners at the local recycling center. Of course I use a mask and a air booth venting to garage, from a small room attached to garage....

I really enjoyed this! Very informative and encouraging. I have a mini paint booth… and recently experiencing the limits I have in what I can spray. Definitely gonna figure out a larger filtration system so that I don’t paint dust everywhere. ( no problem wearing the mask) 👍😎

ideally id shoot straight out the back and then down. but since I am spraying on a whiteboard that will take a bit more configuring. A lot of t shirt shops (which do very heavy spraying) use a slat wall and pull the air down and filter it below.

indeed it is a lot more air than most realize. Of course with airbrushing we can get away with less but solvents tend to linger around. even the curing out is harmful. Not a house friendly option at all.

Hey Doc! Yes im trying to do my part. Obviously each persons setup is different. But i'm hoping to get some people to think about it. Its not very complicated when dealing with just paint particles. But people probably don't realize its the smaller particles you cannot see that are the most dangerous! And about merv 12 is where micro dust / smoke particles even a percentage of bacteria starts getting filtered out.

I know about air safety while spraying paint but just got lazy about it. I worked in the scenic arts department at Seaworld before I retired from there and did a lot of spraying. However, there is a large spray booth there plus I would spray small things outside on occasion. The spray booth of course had a lot of air filters and an exhaust plus we had to wear a respirator while spraying. Here at home I don't spray urethane or any harsh solvents. I only spray premixed acrylic airbrush paint. I turn on the paddle fan and there is an ac vent in the room but I know it isn't enough. I have N-95 masks that I purchased during the pandemic so I will start wearing one when I paint AND, I'm going to order some MERV filters. I have a box fan and will sit it on a low table close to an open window. It's so hot right now I really hate to open a window but I will. I actually have watched this video previously but had forgotten about it until a few minutes ago. Thank you for making this video. It's important to have plenty of ventilation and a way to capture the tiny paint particles.

i really really want people to be safe. If you are taking any precautions you are doing more than many... and more than I have at times. I admit I rarely wear a mask for the airbrushing part. But I do filter most everything I do, or exhaust to outdoors. Best to you! Bill

@@TheAIRspace Hey Bill. When you are spraying with acrylics and at the end of the day, do you soak your airbrush parts in anything? I recall when I worked at Seaworld we would shoot lacquer thinner through the airbrushes and spray guns when we were finished.

@@TheAIRspace Thank you for replying!! I appreciate it. I also have been using a spray bottle with water to clean out the cup. I will then dump the water into a large plastic bottle and do this a few times then wipe with a cloth. I spray airbrush cleaner through the airbrush. I thought I might be missing a step though but I guess not. My cheap Master airbrushes (gravity feed and siphon feed) haven't been working like they should so I have been disassembling them and cleaning them thoroughly. This of course becomes a hassle. I know I should invest in a good airbrush like Iwata or Badger but I just can't afford it. I don't do detailed work like you do though. I am mostly painting celestial/cosmic paintings. Thanks again Bill. I really enjoy watching your channel. Happy painting!

im using a 4 inch right now.. my plan is eventually move to a more downdraft style and i have not decided on if ill move to a 6 inch fan or run dual 4 inch fans. of course that all hinges on me getting around to setting up that room the way i want. each person has unique needs. if your painting flat on a desk doing small 8x10's spraying low pressure through a micron you wont need much at all. if your painting higher pressures say 35 and above vertically obviously thats gonna throw off more overspray. A merv 8 filter pulling overspray as close as possible to the actual spot you are working (pulling down is better than up) is going to be way better than doing nothing for certain.

sir can you please recommend a good airbrush that has a fan cap . i watched your vedio on gsi creos ps290 and the masterbrush one and thanks for clearing that gsi is way better. i watched th2 review and i think it got the best nozzle setup . there is day and night difference in the nozzle shapes of th2 and th1. Th1 got nozzle like gsi creos. I think i should save money and get gsi creos rather than th1 as there is not much difference in nozzle shapes. Or th1 is worth the above 400 dollar price. thank you, will eagerly wait for your reply

Im by far a fan of the ps290. The TH1 is a great brush as well, but the difference between them is very small. The Th2 is great, but i would rather spend money for an LPH80 mini spray gun before id spend money on a th2. That's just my thinking. depends on if your compressor can handle it. If i were in the market for a fan pattern airbrush, id get a 290, in fact that is the brush I kept myself :)

definitely my intent is not to dissuade anyone. I just want people to be aware and you should protect yourself. In my case I do some heavy volume painting at times, and the setup i have now is ridiculously cheap and easy. Its a filter and fans and some foam core board to keep overspray from getting on things.

If you are spraying a lot of solvents in a spray booth it might be a good idea with an explosion proof fan... like a blower with the motor separated or like a 12v/24v marine bilge exhaust fan... and a mask with a 6001 filter. Although i never heard of an airbrush booth igniting, i used to have a metal bladed inline fan with the motor exposed and it had me a bit concerned, definitively not a good idea in a larger paint booth! 😱
@TheAIRspace
@TheAIRspace 2 жыл бұрын
absolutely. I do not spray solvents in my home. i believe i mentioned that I built a small booth for 3 d items and an easel setup in that area now. and i have one fan that pulls direct outdoors, and one that runs through a filter and fan. so I have both options. And yet i still wouldn't use urethanes in the house.

@@TheAIRspace I was wondering if i could get your opinion on something... Im stuck in an apartment these days, i have a spare bedroom, i spray a little bit in a small spraybooth in there, but it is not a good solution as i like to spray with solvents and i want to spend more time spraying. I have had two different ideas that i been thinking about for a while now... One is to build a fully enclosed spraybooth, like a sandblasting cabinet. Although i think that might work it may be hassle to use if i want to spend more time spraying. Im clumsy enough as it is and changing paints and brushes inside an enclosed booth with those giant gloves on would become annoying pretty fast... So what do you think about this, As you mentioned there is a lot of gear designed for growing plants around these days and i have been looking at a grow tent. They already have inlets and outlets for ducting and wiring. I was thinking a 4 foot by 8 foot tent, two 250-350 cfm fans, one running filtered air in at ground level and one running air out the top then over to the window, the fan in running a little bit slower to keep negative pressure. Then on-top of that my spraybooth inside with a third fan also running out to the window that would catch most of the spray... Should be fairly easy to clean whatever particles left behind regularly by misting the walls and wiping it down, and while curing paint or not using it i could always leave one fan running to keep the negative pressure... the whole thing would be fairly portable and not needing any construction work done to the room. This is about as safe as i can think of making it... Would you be comfortable spraying solvents in a setup like this inside an apartment bedroom?

@@AlexBartelme-lw5lv Running a fan and filter setup even just a box fan and filter setup to grab the overspray would be fairly safe for airbrushing with createx. almost all of the t shirt shops in kiosks are just filtering the paint particles. and returning filtered air back to the environment. Pat Gains who owns multiple shops has a diagram showing what fans he uses in walmarts. Of course always use common sense, and its entirely dependant on volume.
