First of all, let's see how the geared turbofan operates. A geared turbofan is a type of turbo fan engine that has a reduction gear between the low-pressure compressor or turbine and its fan allowing each fan to rotate at an optimal speed.

And it can be lighter than traditional turbofans because they require fewer compressor and turbine stages due to their optimized design. This weight reduction can help save fuel and increase the aircraft's carrying capacity. A normal turbo blower engine has a fan at the front for air intake and a slightly smaller turbine inside, which they share with each other, but this is an inefficient shaft. The gearbox solution will allow both components to rotate at optimal speed, meaning the fan at the front will rotate much slower than the turbine inside. This will result in higher performance as well as lower noise generation.

AI Martin Sheen again. P&W already have problems with some of these engines that has let to grounding planes fitted with them. Rolls Royce are also building one but it isn't ready yet.

50:1 I wish them luck I really do but I am really astounded with today's 12:1 bypass ratio that is incredible, the 50:1 is almost the fossil footprint of a cigarette ! The ETOPS rating ( distance to a backup Airfield ) has changed over the years for twin engine aircraft allowing them to cross oceans still exists but the reliability of the latest turbo fans has allowed them to get further away from their alternates turbojet physics will never change as far as as the engines go as a 50% loss of power may result in a 50% loss of height and therefore a descent into thicker air this is what made the four engined aircraft able to cross the vast oceans that they could I wish then luck I really do Who knows maybe I tri-jet jet engines aircraft that may not be used unless required with similar RAM air ducting to eliminate the drag caused maybe the auxiliary power unit normally for starting and ground power could be larger and have a throttle For emergency power

It seems that there are some secrets kept by all parties leading to this mess. I believe the newly designed jumbo jets are not survivable if one of their engines fails on take off or initial climb in every case, one engine does not have enough power. In the case of the A380, even 3 engines could not do it. We also know what happened to Concord.

😂 Great idea G for Gearbox and Grounded ! All PW1100G enginesq are out ! Recalled Great dramatic non Gas consuming at all... like G35 engine. Oops F35...Gear not Great. Lots of planes Grounded Grow of prices due to lack of planes conGratulations 😢

The current major GTF problem is linked to a metal powder supplier which also affects other jet engine manufacturers. The GTF gear box has been virtually 100% reliable.

​@@icare7151 hello, almost ALL PW "G" have this problem of métal treatment ( surely on gear ) large numbers of planes grouded while G.E, SAFRAN, RR don't show at all this general problem.

Terrible video. The FIRST geared Turbofan is the Garrett TFE731 in 1972 and the second was the Lycoming LF502. There is no technology or invention here. the voice track is terrible as has been mentioned in the other comments. Also the video shows several video segments with the fan rotating in the wrong direction.🤣

I cannot figure this airplane out. Yesterday I get a video about A-380's being scrapped, and today I get one extolling it's great new engines. Dying, or living? WTF EDIT: Having now watched it, this is pure hypothetical clickbait. Avoid. The engine in development is real, though. Just not for the A-380.

Once again I was the employee to suggest the scaled enlargement of the NEO to fit the Airbus 380. The Russians also invested in the Pratt NEO engines this is why they are on the first MC-21-300 Russian Airliner and I was the first Flight test Jet engine mechanic for the MC-21-300 in Zhukovsky 2017 and Siberia. I was fired from my career because 😂was too good at the job for my co-workers to have to put up with. Now I had trained to kill Soviet troops with enthusiasm for 3 years on the iron curtain. The Russians knew this and at first did not want me there. But I grew on the like a wart 😅 I had empressed the Russians with my skill and dedication to the job at hand. Covid hit and I lost my Test cell and thrown down with the dregs of humanity on the assembly floor and I was placed on the military line. That pissed allot of people off who have seniority over me. I am a military vet. They are NOT. The last thing I had done at Pratt & Whitney was CORRECTLY Re-write the assembly instructions for the F 100 main engine oil pump so any dumbass could build it correctly. The retired factory workers who WERE NEVER certified Aircraft mechanics. Kept the instructions garbage so in case of a strike. No one would be able to properly build the main engine oil pump. I re-wrote them correctly. Engineering was stunned. They asked me why I felt qualified to write the factory assembly instructions. I replied I have 20 years experience with Caterpillar heavy equipment repair and the last I heard they were big Into hydraulic fluid motion. 😅 There are at least 6 different types of hydraulic systems that are used by Caterpillar. Would you like me to explain them to you? I also have almost 20 years as a CERTIFIED AIRCRAFT MECHANIC ( 😂they did not know that) with a degree in Aviation maintenance Technologies from the National Aviation Academy in Clearwater FL 4.0 GPA Second in my class 😅 Since I am veteran and I am very familiar with the concept of close air support. And I am a Mechanic. The last thing I need when I am hunkered down pucker factor of 14 and climbing. I don't need the Attack aircraft to have a engine failure because some son of a bitch was worried about his fucking overtime. 😢 I was reported to HR that an employee FELT like I was going to do a mass shooting at work BUT I never threatened anyone at work and I have not owned a gun since 1987 either. I was at the time working with 3 co-workers who physically attacked other people on the clock at work. I was treated better by the Russians than I was by co-workers whom I have never harmed. Only tried to help. 😢 Nov. 15, 2020 my last day at work I had stopped at Dunkin Donuts and bought 2 dozen assorted for my co-workers. Too bad they were not poisoned. 😅 Just kidding😂 Those stupid fuckers are all vaxxed 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅The same
