I believe both pilots have to place their hands on the throttle in case of an emergency when take off has to be completed.

Liberal Snowflakes well the reason behind is that the runways centerline has some lights just like the ones you see in the highways separating the lanes from one another .. so when the front wheel of the aircrafts goes over these lights it makes the cockpit bit jumpy as the take off or land
