Part 1 of my full build video for the Airfix Spitfire Mk.Vb in 1/48 scale with the Vokes tropical filter added. I also use the Eduard photo etch set, Brassin exhausts, Master metal barrels and Eduard masks for the canopy.

Selling point on the Vb and the re-engineered Mk. Ia is the separate cockpit tub. No need to sand down the interior if you want to replace the tub with a resin one. Good video, BTW.

Good vid. I have a tip for you to get perfect wing root joints every time. Stick the upper wing to the fuselage before you fit the lower wing. Perfect join every time.

Thnx for the tip, Friend!

I built this kit a year or so ago. Great detail out of the box. You did a nice job with the detailing! I had the exact same fit issue. Had to sand down some of the IP and bulkhead to get the engine cover on. Glad to know it’s a problem with the kit and it wasn’t me that caused the issue😀 Rest of the build is fine.

When this kit arrived to the market, I was a little concerned about the shape at some points, specially where the spinner meets the engine 38:41. From what I see in your video, Airfix has done a great job with this kit. You too.

Really enjoying this mate as I am looking to move from 1:72 to 1:48 aircraft. 👍

I’m enjoying 1/48 for sure but I keep itching for the ease of 1/72, more hiding places 😉

17:13 the boxy one is the water/glycol cooler for the liquid engine cooling system. The round one is the oil cooler. The carburetor air intake obviously is under the chin to the Volkes filter Technically all coolers have both air intakes and outlets.

The dark earth should have been applied first and then the sea grey. The instructions clearly indicated that this aircraft was originally painted d. earth/mid stone (d. earth sprayed first and then mid stone) and then over painted with sea grey. In part 2 the roundels are too far back and probably a little inboard. The roundel should be fully on the wing and not on the aileron , and just behind the leading edge. The outer walkway demarcation lines should be a little further out, in line with the wing tip panel line. The roundel would then fit in the space between the demarcation lines.

Very well detailed build but what is your reference material? I was of the opinion that the fuel tank cover was slightly wider than the fuselage - see Paul Budzig 'Scale model Workshop'

17:13 the larger one in your left hand is the oil cooler, the smaller on in your right hand is the air intake :)
@mkibler34193 жыл бұрын
The larger one was the radiator cooler, the small was the oil cooler and the air intake was in the center of the wing under the fuselage.

Hi mate I'm building hobby 2000s MkVa that pannal line at the front I see it on some mkVs on that great channel the guys talking about all variants but see people remove it!? Your tamiya kit the wee bit is separate on couling behind props so would that definitely be removed on a mkV? Just don't understand much about spitfires just now being my first change over from armour! All learning just now! Any helps great

Basically That panel at the end comes in at Mk IXs so should be removed for all previous versions, there are times it crops up but they’re rare

Great build, but the two parallel ribs on the upper wings which are parallel to the fuselage were not on the Mk Vb wings. Sorry, I'm a Spitfire nerd

I think Airfix's 1/48 Hawker Hurricane (new tool) is better than their 1/48 Spitfire Mk.I/V. (Airfix Spitfire is still pretty good though, however I prefer Tamiya's new tool Spitfire Mk.I)

More accurately, Airfix is random now. Some of the kits are excellent, and some are very bad. This one is about above average+ for the brand; The trouble for Airfix is the best of its kits is so-so Tamiya. In fairness to Airfix, this is not its go-to scale; while it makes some great 1:48 scale models like the Defiant, its best work is still at 1:72 scale. Sort of.
