There are times when I do all the after market stuff, but not day to day. I did have a Harrier GR.7 to do one day and I've got all sorts of stuff for that - exposed engine, proper exhausts, proper weapons, cockpit detail with photo etch, etc,., etc., but that's a special one. Something for my few unoccupied hours, not for the channel, because it will take months!

Cheers, the idea for the paint mask comes from Airfix including masks with the Mosquito, which unthought was a generous thing to do. Makes sense with all those blanking pieces already shaped for the holes!

In many ways they have. The kits I have done recently, especially in 1/48, have been very good (with a few issues), but way better than the Airfix of old.

Yeah, the video was late as things have been ambit hectic here in the last week or so. Still, back on track very soon! My experience of US city traffic has never been a good one... almost missed a flight once in LA because it had rained and the whole road network seemed to stop. The only place that I have found alright was DC. But I haven't been over for quite a long time now.

Love the Frog Tape! Found it by chance doing some painting in the house and loved the low tack and very clean release. Thought it might work well on models and it does! My go-to masking tape.

Good choice! But then you never know, Les. Having the nose intake as a separate item might (just might) mean the base kit will adapt to the Dog. It seems to be the way of things these days, and a good thing too, that designs are planned with variation in mind, especially in 1/48.

Excellent, it is a very, very good kit IMHO. Don't forget to buy it through my Airfix Online Store link if you're going to!

Hi Jim, thanks. Yes, it is a good idea to have one in the bag, but only if I know things are going to go south when Monday Matters is recorded. I'm still trying the new format out, so there will be some changes in the future, and some kits will by their nature need to go over more than one week (like the Italeri Stirling when it arrives). But then, of course, life will always get in the way of model making... But your point is well made - everything was going swimmingly before Xmas and I agreed to have some time off and a whole lot of momentum in the growth of the channel disappeared. So if I'm going on holiday, I make sure I've two weeks' worth of kits ready to drop and the rest I can fill in. I hope! All the best!

At least we know you haven't made a wrong turn in Albuquerque and didn't get caught up in Mrs' Stuff's sewing machine 😜 (bonus points for getting the historical reference)

Cheers Ian. I use the Vallejo system of black gloss primer (77.660) then Metal Color on top. For aircraft I normally use their duraluminium (77.702). Sometimes, like on the Hunter, I might put the Metal Color on a lighter base for the undersides, but generally it's on black.

No I used Vallejo Metal Color - probably a similar thing thought, a black gloss primer then this quite thin suspension of the metallic colour on top. I might try alclad though, as I have heard good things...

Alcalds are good gary but very stinky lol I love the Vallejo paints more becuse they don’t smell

For this I used the Vallejo Metal Color paint, its my favourite for aluminium finishes now!

@@garys_stuff Look, I didn't mean to offend you. I've been watching your videos for a short time, but in the case of this model you missed a few striking details. I'm talking about the nose part of the fuselage. Look at the air intake and connecting the fuselage halves. You can see right away that you skipped the sanding process of this place or did it not thoroughly. And this is obvious in the case of such a machine.

Yes I normally give it a gloss varnish before decals as it helps them sit better. I can give them a matt or satin final coat later.

@@garys_stuff hey thanks. have you ever painted on insignias and other markings rather than decals, if so then did you varnish after every color change?

@@dicksmith3553 I have only done it once so far - on the 1/24 Spitfire. I don't think I varnished between colours, but I had varnished the base colours first.

@@garys_stuff hi again. got another question if you dont mind. did you have trouble with the wing deployable front leading edge on your F 86 airfix build. i'm trying to put mine together but they just don't fit. They're very very very tight. Ive got to do some sanding to get them to go in. Did this happen to you too? Thanks for any response. Dick T

Yes I do, just a very light going over with a spray primer at first. Helps with bits I need to paint on the sprue e.g. cockpit parts and I find it helps with checking things like fuselage seams.

I can’t thank you enough for your videos on this new kit. I’m in China right now visiting relatives. My wife is Chinese. Heading back home in 2 weeks . I’m from Beaverton, Oregon,USA I managed to buy 14 1/48 scale models here at a 65-70% difference in price from America. No tariffs or shipping costs.

@@garys_stuff the new airfix saber is not available here yet. ill buyonce i get back. im building that for my older brother for a birthday surprise. his jet was f86h version but no kits for that one so ill modify as much as i can of the the f86f-40 version. he hasno clue at all. perhaps if youd like ill send pics of my progress and the finished project. i already had stencils made for all the makings from kitz masks in canada. his group was Mass air national guard based in boston, ma. i really like the green and shamrocks they painted on their planes.
