Another Airfix classic from the '60s. Thouroughly enjoyable to make and a great final product, no thanks to me.

That darker aileron. Who's to say that it didn't sustain some battle damage at some point and needed replacing? Freshly painted aileron on a service weary faded aircraft?

A very nice job, will look great with varnish.

I've wondered about that. I've had some bad varnish experiences, but it does seem an important step. Watch out for some more experiments in the future.

Fairey Gannet is an interesting one. I'll have to look on Ebay, that's this evenings job sorted out.

This took me back a very long time indeed, the late 60's in fact. I built this kit at least twice and particularly remember the striking box-art. Years later I met a guy in a pub in Mansfield who happened to mention he'd been in Korea and it turned out that he was an ex-Fleet Air Arm observer and had flown Firefly's there on operations! I enjoyed your video but to be honest I'm surprised that you simply build out of the box and don't use such things as sand-paper, craft knives and especially body- filler! Those unfilled join-lines are crying out for attention and old kits such as this need a bit of work and TLC in order to make the best of them. There are some great vids on You Tube devoted to modelling and I'm sure you'd find them really interesting as you clearly enjoy building kits.

Hello paddy. On the matter of building straight from the box, that was my initial motive for starting this channel - I wanted to see how well various models went together without any help. When I was a kid I really went to town on that kind of thing, so I wanted to take a step back. Gradually though the filler and it's chums are creeping back. I've got another one of these waiting to be built, and I think I'll do it with the wings up and a bit more work on the finish. As for meeting the Korean vet' that's a remarkable thing. These guy's are getting few and far between. I've met a few through work and they often talk of the stress of it all. It was a very modern war. Cheers Mm.

The Airfix kit has a very narrow upper fuselage/ canopy section and the Frog Firefly has a wide upper fuselage, does any one know which is more accurate.

Hello Vincent. I would always go with Airfix over Frog as a rule. But I do enjoy the old Frog models. Interesting to see you've got your hands on one. Cheers. MM.

Hey, nice finnish!! I gotta buy that one. Maby next time you can do a bomber? A raf lancaster, wellington or halifax would be good too try...

Oh Pants! I'm at work on some one elses computer. I'll have to sort that out.

Brain fully engaged, computer on... Let's try that again. Good idea. Iv'e got a Lanc' and a Wellington lined up. It'll be a little while before they are on here, but they will make it. The Wellington is a real favourite, I like the old workhorses, just like the Hurricane. Cheers.

Model Meltdown the wellington is a newtool so it will be good and the lancaster is a good fit kit..
@modelmeltdown3596 жыл бұрын
Oh I think mine are both Revell. Are you reffering to Airfix? I'm sure I could Have a go at different manufacturers.
@emilbt75886 жыл бұрын
Model Meltdown revell's are good but the airfix lancaster is the best but revells are decent too

I rather enjoyed that (subscribed). I would disagree with you about the lighting, as I thought you were on the cusp of shots that would have made the kit look "real" and in flight.
@modelmeltdown3595 жыл бұрын
Actually I would agree now looking at it. When I'm doing the filming I just get tunnel vision about being able to see the model. I got in a right tangle over this when i was shooting the 37mm German gun. And thanks for subscribing by the way.

what paints did you use
@modelmeltdown3594 жыл бұрын
I used standard Humbrol tinlets up to about 3 coats. I kept away from the acrylics for that one. Cheers MM
