Hi Nigel, I have been watching all of your spitfire IX 1/24 scale build over and over again both from the point of view of enjoyment but also helping me navigate my our spit. After some 7 weeks I completed this tonight and delighted with my first model for over 40 years and feel your videos have both inspired me and been a valuable guide. I’ll probably have a rest for a few months then look at my next challenge. Thanks Richard

It's funny that I made a comment on a brother modellers channel on the same aircraft that it looks so good under paint and decals, that you feel the same and are leaving it pristine. I thoroughly endorse your decision. Lovely work Nigel and a thoroughly enjoyable build. For the panels, I would try a tiny spot of Blue Tac on each one. That should hold them.

Hi Nigel you have done the rest of us a great service that have bought the takom ah-64 d or e you have exposed these problems bad instructions bad decals and so on I have roughly 150 US dollar in this kit with aftermarket and I need to buy decals I think takom needs to a acknowledge these ridiculous mistakes and then make it right!! Thank you for bringing this to light in my case before I started building it

A model to be proud of Nigel. Thanks for highlighting the pitfalls to look out for. This non-weathered piece ought to really stand out on a shelf full of weathered models. If I were to put it in a diorama, it would have 1/24 scale figures looking at it in a museum setting. 😊

Thank you Nigel for the best build series on the Airfix Spitfire. I have been taken my time working on three kits so that refinements/modifications can be made as well as waiting to gain aftermarket parts. Ordered the Airscale cockpit detail, Sutton harness, placard and data plates as well as Anyz resin line/spark plug kits. One model will be a George Beurling KH B using the EagleCals decals. All three of the kits have the fuselage molding of the rivets done without the problem you had. The small criticism I have to add; the lack of further engine bay plumbing info that could have been in the instructions to aid the modeler that would not have raised the price of the kit. Maybe there will be a aftermarket set for that.

Hiya Nigel.. I've watched a couple of YT videos of people making this kit, and you're the first to (correctly judging from the pictures) mention the wheel flat spots being wrong. It looks like the model was designed with the fuselage parallel to the ground as it would be if the aircraft were at speed, taking off or landing. However the majority of modellers would I think chose a static pose with the tail down so the flat spot if stuck in that position would be entirely wrong. Caveat: You made this video about a year ago and the other videos I've seen are newer. Perhaps Airfix realised their mistake and retooled a later version with the flat spot in the right place?
@NigelsModellingBench

Lovely job, she is looking fantastic! I'm a lot further back with mine, can I pick your brain? I'm having a trial fit of the engine and it's cradle, everything is exactly as per instructions but the whole thing seems to want to sit about 3-4 mm left of centre as viewed from behind. Did you have any fit issues to work around? Best wishes to Jess!
@NigelsModellingBench
@NigelsModellingBench Жыл бұрын
Hi Jason. I seem to remember the upper holes were tight and required a little force to get them in. I didn’t ever glue the engine bearer into the airframe!!
@jasonsansome5579
@jasonsansome5579 Жыл бұрын
@@NigelsModellingBench oooos!! I've found the problem, the upper legs of the engine bearer were a bit tight, but the lower ones on mine seemed quite a loose fit. So I used a drop of CA to hold them, the starboard one must have crept out a bit as it dried as it is now a couple of mm out of the bulkhead. So the whole assembly leans to the left!!! Big newbie error!!
@lauriepocock3066

I know that people get very uptight when I criticise over weathering, but the chaps who did the fighting insisted on their aeroplanes being in tip-top condition. It's only when the plane is down-rated to a secondary task that they start to get beat up. We also need to realise that the average fighting life of a spitfire is less than 50 hrs.

I just think it looks lovely and crisp and didn't want to dirty it up.
@willthorson4543
@willthorson4543 Жыл бұрын
That's not remotely factual. All you have to do is look at pictures. Combat aircraft were just like anything being used constantly. Weapons clean, glass clean, maintenance consistent to included guns. Everything else didn't matter. You can literally see that in pictures. Look at ground crew loading the mgs or cannons? They don't care about anything but the weapons and ammo. And it got worse depending on where aircraft were stationed at. Forward air bases all had dirt airstrips. Raining, sun, dust all played parts in wearing out and dirtying up the aircraft. You can't look at museum aircraft and think that's the way they looked. Reality is completely different

You mentioned using flat clear. I tried to used (airbrushed) AK flat clear recently and it left a horrible white film over everything! I have original Alclads and new no difference whatsoever IMHO..pipetts and airbrush only..never try to pour it it's basically fines in thinner..dont hang about spraying and thin coats till satisfied.Some of their metallics but not all have always had very little "pigment"...always been the same with those Nige, And aqua gloss on top that's always been the script.
@NigelsModellingBench
@NigelsModellingBench Жыл бұрын
Thanks Hugh, I have never had a problem pouring the old Alclad bottles, it seems the neck on these catches the pigment? I always use Aqua Gloss on metallic finishes that I want to stay like chrome, look at all my U/C legs for example. I have also played with using different gloss colours under the Alclad to achieve a different look. I found this manifold colour to be the worst of all for the minimum amount of pigment...
