10 Battery Saving Tips for GoPro Hero 9 Black

In this video, I go over 10 tips on how you can maximize the battery in your GoPro Hero 9 Black. GoPro batteries have never been known to offer long record times but when some of these tips are implemented you can greatly increase the amount of record time of the battery. If you have an older GoPro such as the Hero 5/6/7/8 Black, you can still utilize some of these tips as they are the same on all cameras. The location in the menu however may be different.

Thank you for that. Very helpful. To help others, I wrote everything down: *10 Battery Saving Tips for GoPro Hero 9 Black* 1. Disable Voice Command 2. Disable Wireless Connections [Lose connections to phone/tablet and GoPro Remote] 3. Disable GPS 4. Turn Down Rear Screen Brightness [20%] 5. ? Disable Front Screen 6. Disable Beeps & LEDs 7. Change Auto Power Off to 5 minutes 8. Change Screen Saver [Rear] to as low as possible / Rear Screen Saver = Match Front Screen 9. Disable Quick Capture 10. a) Lower Resolution to save power if needed b) Change Duration of Recording to what's appropriate at that moment

All these tips work for the Hero 10 black too thanks! I even saw the batterylife improving after changing soms settings. It jumped from 30 to 40%

Hi Shawn. Great vid and new subscriber for sure now!! I clicked on the video for the exact reason being I am not that interested in anything better than 1080p with 30fps as I race in 2-3 hr Hare Scrambles. issue my gopro hero 9 my gopro show battery low notification but i see on corner battery cell percentage info its show 20% some rime on 40% or 30%

The Ulanzi power bank handle is great but it needs some grippy rubber surface as it is so slippery as it is . I have taken to sliding several rubber bands in place up along the handle to solve this problem , and I have the bands with me if I need them .

Hi - I’m new to go pro... your set-up video is extremely useful to a 50 year young girl who had GP9 for her birthday 😁 and is rubbish with tech stuff - thanks so much! I’ve looked up the power bank handle on Amazon/EBay , Ulanzi BG2 6800 mAh, right? But the product description says compatible with 8/7/6. What about 9? Or is it just that the 9 is so new that description is out of date? Thanks in advance

Very informative, I agree a lot of your tips here make sense and do tend to save a lot of power, but then I think to myself if I actually turn off "most" of these power saving tips, I end up turning my GoPro into my old Hero4 as I've disabled most of the features I like in the 9 which is why I purchased it! (ok, not really a fair comparison to the 4 but keep some features turned on and stick a battery in your pocket!). Thanks though, it all helps.

I use my gopro on my atv for recording while i ride , does gopro make something that plugs in the atvs power jack ( cigarette lighter ) sorry forgot the name of those things , but do they make something so i dont have to worry about battery life?

@@1969Irishdave Shawn's video comparing Go Pro Hero 9 battery life set at 1080 was 2 hours 13 minutes. Now if you are using some other battery don't know ! Besides non Go Pro Hero 9 battery packs were giving users power problems / button lockups. So ask yourself if its worth it to spend a little extra to enjoy better videos ?

Turning off those settings you mentioned kept my battery at 100% after 24hrs. It used to drain about 5-8% a day and I always wondered why. THANK YOU for these tips! Now I just have to remember to turn on when I need to use it 😅

I was actually about to start a test to measure how much drain is occurring over time for these "quick button" setting and then the voice control and then both combined together. I wish GoPro had an option for customized power profile. Lastly I think there is a "somewhat water-resistant" door system with the USB cord extension. In my opinion it's a much needed option for people who go fishing, fish won't give you a warning to press the record button and so leaving the camera on and activate the loop record option is just draining the battery in no time.

I did do an unboxing hand review of it when it was first released. Basically you just have to plug a USBC cable into the USBC port on the media mod and that will charge it

Thanks for sharing. The first thin I cant' understand, why I can't find an option to disable auto filming option, why would I need it when I just turn on camera to change some options? This is stupid. Also I can't fully disable back screen while filming, or I can't find this option? I use quick capture all the time for ~1 minute during a dive (underwater sport). When I start filming I don't want to see anything on camera, why I don't have this option? It is eating the battery!!!! For me, it appears, that screen is always on, as min setting is it is turned off after 1 min. GoPro, why can't I turn it off, I just need to make camera filming. We are not all bloggers!

Even in a bright location 10% brightness is useless. You can’t see anything. I have mine by 50% that’s a very good brightness for in- and outdoors.

Are you sure about that? I strongly disagree. Check back about three years ago in my videos. I have tested it thoroughly. And you missed the point about using quick capture to be more efficient which also saves power
