"Airport Or Airstrip?" - No Country For Old Men (2007) #shorts #nocountryforoldmen
No Country for Old Men is a 2007 American neo-Western crime thriller film written and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, based on Cormac McCarthy's 2005 novel of the same name. Starring Tommy Lee Jones, Javier Bardem, and Josh Brolin, the film is set in the desert landscape of 1980 West Texas. The film revisits the themes of fate, conscience, and circumstance that the Coen brothers had explored in the films Blood Simple (1984), Raising Arizona (1987), and Fargo (1996). The film follows three main characters: Llewelyn Moss (Brolin), a Vietnam War veteran and welder who stumbles upon a large sum of money in the desert; Anton Chigurh (Bardem), a hitman who is sent to recover the money; and Ed Tom Bell (Jones), a sheriff investigating the crime. The film also stars Kelly Macdonald as Moss's wife Carla Jean and Woody Harrelson as a bounty hunter seeking Moss and the return of the $2 million.

This movie is so stupid why would anyone watch it? I saw it in the theater and I don't remember anything but the dumb scene where a guy with a shoulder holster out drew the cop doing all the tricks with his gun. Never happen, drawing from a shoulder holster is too complicated. They are for people that sit a lot. Also, that big dumbass is too conspicuous. He would have been easily found and ended.

Super common to hitchhike in the 60s, 70s, 80s, even had some popularity in the 90s. Free travel, meet new people, get some conversation in. But, the news began to reveal more and more accounts of serial killers that often targeted hitchhikers as true crime interest grew with television. And you'd probably assume "well, I guess it would be dangerous for women" but most of the serial killers targeted men and adolescent boys. It's far less common for the hitchhiker to be the aggressor, but not unheard of. It was never really a safe practice, but not many people knew that then. A big part of the film is the perception of a better time in the past that didn't really exist - the person pining for it just knows more unsavory details about human nature with age.

@@P_FootThe interaction was clearly suspicious as observed by both people. If Anton just got his vehicle jumped and headed along his way, there would be a farmer that had a weird interaction with a strange man dressed in all black talking about flying out of the country from the nearest airport. People like this farmer who enjoy spinning yarns are a liability if you're trying to keep secrets. If he killed the guy and took his truck, it covers his tracks, provided that the killing was covered up for sufficient time for him to get some distance from it.

Even the lady who worked at the motel? I think she was the only one to unknowingly escape Anton’s murderous actions. So, actually she was in an acting class with me, and she was SO excited when she landed the part! She had just moved to Hollywood and lived in a crummy shared one bedroom apartment…this was her break! Her name was Kathy Lamkin. She was also known as a villain in Friday the 13, pt 2, I think. This has got to be one of the shortest scenes in the movie, it's only about a minute long, and yet it says so much about Anton. Seemed like a genuinely nice guy. Stopped to help the stranded motorist with his vehicle, made friendly small talk with the stranded motorist (Anton), and most likely, had he not been murdered by Anton, wouldn’t have asked Anton for, or expected, one thin dime for the help he provided. It's not something about how he was born that lets him kill people, it's something anyone can do if they're put into the right situation. The other characters are veterans, too, and their jobs are also to kill people. They've all been made into fairly remorseless killers.

You have quite the imagination. If you think that carrying a gun will protect you from everything out there, I have a name for you- Chris Kyle. More guns actually leads to more gun deaths. Sometimes the bad guy gets shot, but too often, the good guy is shot, even when they are as well trained as a Navy Seal and have a partner who is also well trained, and they both are aware that they need to keep an eye on the sketchy guy that is also armed, or at least has access to a weapon, that they invited to the gun range.

Spoilers for those who don't pay attention to how Anton acts. The chicken dude is dead. It was decided the moment he needed a car over that of a plane. Anton doesn't like to leave chances that will get him killed in the long run. Also yes, the accountant later in the movie is also dead. Anton's question to the accountant wasn't a way to see if the accountant would play ball, but whether the accountant would admit to the problem that will get himself killed. As for the gas station clerk: Anton attempts a luck based mercy for the gas clerk due to a multitude of complicated reasons. Some being that of the humanity seeped within the pits of Anton's brain. I believe the main reason was caused by how Anton unintentionally wandered into learning just how pitiful the man was. The clerk truly had no idea with what he was doing by small talking Anton. This is all just to conclude that Anton is an evil man that will do anything to keep himself covered.
