Thanks for this in-depth video! Although I know a lot already, sometimes I find out the hard way myself.. I feel like this is an underlooked thing at Airsoft and it throws new players into the deep. I experienced a Lipo catching fire once while chronoing inside my house, suddenly I heard a siss and smoke came out of the back of the stock... followed by a flame... Thankfully I kept a cool mind and brought the replica into my tiled bathroom and then slammed out the fire with a towel. It was quite costly to replace all the damaged internals though but at least my home didn't have any damage! One thing I still struggle with is finding out the correct charge rate.. for some reason it is never included in the manuals that come with the batteries... I would love a video on that.

Never put a lipo battery on water if its on fire, it only burn more. Sand or co2 are the only things effective on a lipo fire

This is such a good video. Even though my airsoft gun uses the (8.4) NiMH battery, I still got a lot of good information out of this. Like the fact that the battery that my cheap airsoft gun came with only had 650 mAh only gave me much more reason to buy a much better one, with a fancy charger to keep it in check. Thanks 👍

I use Anderson connectors for my ebike, these are quite reliable, I would possibly consider doing a build with one of those if I want to make my own battery.

I think you should add Li-ion batteries to the guide, sure they have lower discharge rates in comparison (and are a little bit heavier), but Li-ion batteries have a higher energy density, lower self-discharge rate, longer cycle life and are sooooo much reliable and safer than LiPo batteries. A little accident, like denting a Lipo could lead to fire and considering a sport so brutal like airsoft I would recommend Li-ion except you really want that higher discharge rate.

Agreed. I'm running an 11.1v 3000mAh 35a peak Valken nunchuck and honestly I love it. 800+ BBs through the gun and still 90% charged. Can't beat it. I won't have to carry around extra batteries like everyone else but also need the stock extended due to the size of it. It's a trade-off I'm willing to live with. My Specna Edge 2.0 has a mosfet also so why bother with LiPo anymore? I think Li Ion is the way.
@hakont.4960
@hakont.4960 4 ай бұрын
They have a slightly higher energy capacity, self discharge is about the same. Li-ion cells can literally explode if they have a catastrophic failure because their outer casing can trap the gas buildup. Li-po cells will vent the gas buildup and combust, not explode if there's a catastrophic failure. You can also get li-po's with a reinforced exterior so they're more durable. They also can take more abuse than many think. I've made big dents in some of my li-po's and it hasn't even affected the performance. Even Titan Power, a major advocate for li-ion batteries have started selling li-po batteries.
@weplooxgaming
@weplooxgaming 4 ай бұрын
@hakont.4960 li-ion batteries have a security valve just in case the internal pressure rises, so they don't explode and release the pressure just like the lipo batteries, but they are harder to pierce/deform

What is a microprocessor? I see that it's written under many airsoft LiPo batteries that they should be charged with a microprocessor charger with a balancer.

I refuse to switch to LiPo because it doesn't work with my GBBRs 😄 But kidding aside, some of the airsoft guns make me nervous, storing lipos in the handguard which is full of m-lok holes doesn't seem safe to me. What if a BB makes it's way into it and hits the battery directly, could that ignite it?

Further tip if you are a bit of a worrier. As well as using a lipo back, take the whole bundle (charger battery in bag etc) and pop it onto a large dinner plate. It’s just another layer of protection to help keep things under more control if they go wrong. A large dinner plate is my choice because one it means that you 100% have anything that could get hot or firery on something that won’t go up in flames itself if there’s a failure thus hopefully slowing any spread allowing you more time to react and complete your safety procedure. Fortunately never had to do so but it’s a nice extra layer of safety to keep you chill if your like me and have thoughts like “but what if the lipo bag fails ?”

Also for battery life, don't charge to 100% and try not to discharge below 40%.
@darwindewilde
@darwindewilde 6 ай бұрын
While this is true, i never recommend doing these charge limiting things. Charging to only 80% is better for the battery life in the long run but you will basically be using a battery with a reduced capacity from the start. If you play every weekend and always charge to 100% the evening before game day your lipo should easily last you a good 2 years or more, after that the battery will have a reduced total capacity but will still work fine. Basically don’t use your new battery as if it is already worn down just to get a half years extra use with capacity that you don’t actually use because you never charge to full… Lipo’s aren’t that expensive to replace after 2-3 years. Just make sure to store them nice and balanced at room temperatures and at storage voltage.

Is it possible to run a replica on a Milwaukee 12v battery? I am generally very conservative with my trigger finger. I have a Lancer Tactical Gen 3 rifle. I use 3 round burst instead of full auto.

I might be late with the answer, but don't. Airsoft batteries are made specifically for airsoft, and guns are made to handle airsoft batteries. Don't cheap out on it, get a good 11.1 LiPo, around 1000mAh should be fine

@@brightwolf_hun1848 1) tool batteries are not cheap. 2) they are the same li-ion cells used for airsoft or RC. All batteries show higher voltage when fully charged. I put my volt meter on my 11.1 lipo and it showed 12.6. My M12 showed 12.2

@@JMyers1990 Cheap out was probably a wrong way to word it, english is not my first. And I also don't know Milwaukee batteries. What I meant is that if your replica isn't specifically made or cobverted for 12V, it's best to stay with traditional airsoft batteries made for specifically this purpose.
