It always amazes me just how close to the real firearms these well made gas blowback replicas are. It's pretty much as close to being a firearm without being able to convert it into an actual gun. Even the field stripping and cleaning are spot on like you'd do on a real firearm!

This video was extremely helpful. My gun came with a lot of factory grease so it probably wasn't necessary to clean and re-lube it, but I did anyway. For context, there was so much grease that it was oozing out of the cracks and the fire selector lol.

Stellar information! Just got back into airsoft after a decade break, SO awesome to see that detailed and accurate videos are around these days! As much as I don't mind doing what I've always done and working everything out hands on by trial and error, it's badass having channels like this to make getting back up to speed easier. Fuckin hell, knocked this guide clean out of the park with concise, detailed info. Learnt many little things but also nice to know that i already do like 3/4 of it. I haven't disassembled the trigger groups of any of my gas guns and mostly use a few drops of oil every now and again - part of that is fear of not being able to reassemble but increasingly i think its laziness, i really should give back some of the love they've given me over the years though. edit: also, just discovered your channel, easiest sub click ever...

Yes, good to leave some propane in the magazines for storage. How much isn't important. If there aren't any leaks, you don't need to grease the o-rings but you can do it once anyway if you want as a sort of preventative maintenance.

What do you do when a GBB pistol nozzle doesn't always snap back when you pull the slide back? I actually recently cleaned it out with isopropyl and then used Superlube PTFE grease, but it didn't seem to help any. It functions as intended directly after greasing, but after a few shots through it, it goes back to functioning correctly like 1/7 times. Would you reckon it's more likely that maybe the piston rubber needs to be replaced, or the nozzle spring is worn out and become too weak, or something else entirely? More detailed info: I _have_ used silicone oil on that nozzle in the past, but only after that problem already started occurring in the first place, in hopes of fixing it. Before that, I basically hadn't lubed it at all, and the only gas I've always used is ASG (ActionSportGames) Ultrair Power Gas, which doesn't mention whether or not there is any oil in the gas, but I don't think so (it just says "Contains: C4H10, C3H8 / Purity: 99.7%", which would just be butane and propane). The piston rubber doesn't seem to have any visible damage. The nozzle does always go just far enough back to pick up another BB, but it doesn't seem like a good idea to basically force the nozzle shut with the slide coming forward.
@ExplosiveEnterprises
@ExplosiveEnterprises Жыл бұрын
In general, the nozzle failing to return is either excess friction on the piston cup/o-ring (possibly due to damage), a damaged return spring, or physical obstruction of the nozzle. It's possible if you've run it without any lubricant at all that it has hardened over time (due to ozone exposure). Since you've already tried lubrication, and we assume you would notice if the spring was damaged or the nozzle is unable to move smoothly, chances are it's time for replacement. To test, we suggest you try removing the piston cup/o-ring and see if the nozzle can then cycle smoothly. If it does, then you know the culprit, and when you get the new one we suggest greasing it to keep air out, as lack of lubrication may have allowed your current one to become brittle from ozone exposure.

@ExplosiveEnterprises
@ExplosiveEnterprises Жыл бұрын
Ideally, you want to find a grease with the following set of characteristics: -Safe for o-rings and plastic. Look for compatibility information, and ensure it is considered 'compatible' with nitrile rubber and plastics. -NLGI grade 0-2, preferably 0 or 1, but 2 is the most common. -Includes some form of boundary lubricant additive, such as PTFE or molybdenum. All that said, we recommended Super Lube specifically because it is available in both the US and Europe, so if you can't find it locally you may need to hunt around a bit.

Hi bro, I've heard many people say to never lubricate the hammer and bolt carrier real steel contacts, is this true for a gbbr (and specifically our viper tech)?
@ExplosiveEnterprises
@ExplosiveEnterprises Жыл бұрын
The hammer on a real firearm is typically under more tension than its airsoft equivalent, but no reason not to apply a light layer of grease. On a steel fire control group like the VT has, the carrier and hammer typically polish against one another pretty quickly and then don't wear further- the grease just keeps the cycling smooth rather than preventing wear.

What sort of O rings do WE M4's use? I have done a lot of research and it seems like silicon oil is recommended for O rings, and PTFE grease for metal on metal. I just got a WE XM, but have no idea what sort of lube to use apart from PTFE grease. Others say PTFE grease is not safe for the o rings, specifically Superlube Grade 2, and to use silicon oil for that. Is silicon oil ok for nitrile o rings or no? I was sort of confused by that section of the video. Can't really find any good definite sources on the net on what to use.
@ExplosiveEnterprises
@ExplosiveEnterprises Жыл бұрын
WEs are almost exclusively nitrile rubber. Silicone (not silicon) oil is safe for nitrile o-rings, it just isn't ideal, and will tend to need more frequent reapplication. Per the manufacturer's chemical compatibility chart, standard Super Lube grease is also safe for nitrile rubber, which is why we recommend it (and have had great success using it in a wide variety of replicas and magazines). If someone is saying it isn't safe for the o-rings, we would like to see substantiation or at least an explanation of why.

It'll work for metal parts, but we tend to think it's overkill, given that airsoft guns don't really get all that dirty in use by the standards of cars or guns. Soap, water, and isopropyl are generally all you need. But if you do want to use brake cleaner, we suggest keeping it away from anything plastic or rubber, and be sure to thoroughly clean it off when done.

Both nitrile and silicone rubbers (the only materials anyone's making hop rubbers out of nowadays) are unharmed by isopropyl alcohol, so it's a good solvent for cleaning residue off. It also won't harm plastic, unlike acetone, making it a pretty safe solvent for cleaning airsoft guns in general.
