jjfromthebigland In 1986 they filmed an episode of Airwolf next door to were I was working in Long Beach CA. I watched Airwolf and the Santini Air helicopters fly in and land. Airwolf sounded just like a regular helicopter I was kinda bummed about it , but I knew tv uses sound effects for just about everything. Still it was cool to see them both up close and were was my camera? Back at the house of course.

Yes, it could. The pilot episode was called "Second Thunder" because they were flying the second prototype for Blue Thunder. It also explains the new features that Blue Thunder had in the show that in never had in the movie (precision fire - where a special Canon popped out of the center of the 20mm gun).

Airwolf could turbo for a longer time and had missiles not to mention radars. Blue Thunder had the whisper flight mode and it seemed like that it was generally a quieter helicopter so it could give the Lady a fight if it sneaked up behind her in night time.

Lol, I remember in middle school talking with some of my friends about which one we thought was the best. Some of them thought BT because of the Gatling gun. I chose Airwolf....obviously.

Airwolf having missiles, heatseekers specifically, pretty much decided the fight from the outset, especially if he'd lead with them instead of bothering with guns (for drama's sake of course)

Well, neither coper could of taken the other's gunfire. Airwolf uses 4 BMG 50 cals but its 2 big ones were 30mm autocannons vrs Blue Thunder's 20mm chain gun. In real life, 50 cals will tear modern tanks to pieces. But Airwolf had multiple air to air missiles including one specific as anti-helicopter and long-range targeting ability, much higher top speed, and 90% stealth. No contest.

But if they where, Airwolf was designed to take out aircraft from a distance, very accurately and quickly. The other chopper takes sustained gun fire from 50 cals and 30mm autocannons, nothing in the air can do that.

Blue Thunder was a better surveillance chopper/hacking machine.

Well, they were designed for different roles. Blue Thunder was for ground support and operating in radar but unknown to enemy's knowledge. He was suburb in that role. Airwolf was totally designed as a strike fighter with the ability to operate behind enemy lines avoiding radar. Even today, most aircraft couldnt handle the Lady.

The Gazelle was a good bird for surveillance, the British Army Air Corps used them for that, they could also be fitted with TOW missles on port and starboard pods. The airframe was not suited to nose mounted surveilance gear or weapons, they ones on the film and tv show had that problem.

Airwolf was a military helicopter, whereas Blue Thunder was a police copter with military applications.

And unlike Airwolf, Murphy doesn't have to have Airwolf directly in front of Blue Thunder to fire its main weapon on its target. Airwolf was meant to fly high and fast against targets like fighter jets and other vehicles. Blue Thunder was built to operate within a highly-built-up, urban environment. Hawke and Dom might have the edge over Murphy, but in a city, Blue Thunder has all its advantages active against Airwolf, which wouldn't be able to use its speed or major long-range firepower. It would come down to guns and pilot skill, and Blue Thunder has the better armament for a city environment. If Murphy had a competent back-seater, someone with as much experience as he had with Blue Thunder, then the fight would be tilted far more in Blue Thunder's favor.

True, based on the fictional specs -- Airwolf would have the combat advantage. Based on reality, the Gazelle (Blue Thunder) is a much faster helicopter than (Airwolf) Bell 222. The Bell 222 maxes out of 240 kph for top speed, the Gazelle can hit 310 kph.

One thing could beat it, the F-22 Raptor. Radar sig the size of a grasshopper. And the ONLY known aircraft capable of maintaining stealth at supersonic speeds. Combined with advanced targeting and hypersonic missile capability as well, it is the true air dominance, the best aircraft in the world, in its role, strike fighter. And some of them are even VTOL capable. The Lady's defenses would also be useless as it uses an advanced GPS lock-on targeting system. If there is anything better, it is ultra-top secret. Airwolf's launcher isnt larger enough for hypersonics. But the F-22 could only carry 2 missiles and maintain stealth, one hypersonic. So if the Lady could somehow get super lucky and avoid that one shot, she could have her way, if she can catch it.

Matthew Croxall yes airwolf was used for air ambulance and sadly crashed in the mountains and killing anyone on board so I wish they could of keep it so this didn’t happen I loved airwold better then blue Thunder I didn’t go to Kine on the films and we still waiting for the remaking of airwolf but sadly it’s not going to be the bell 222
