You request, and you shall receive! A video about the check anesthesia providers perform before administering the good stuff. Many new machines do a lot of these steps by the push of a button. BUT it is important to know what is happening and why.

This is so intimidating. I'm am entering nursing with my goal set on becoming a CRNA. Didn't realize knowledge of not just medicine and critical thinking were involved. Really enjoyed the video.

John, it is CRAZY how much we need to know. When you get here, you will even look back at being a nurse and think "how was I taking care of patients!!??" But keep pushing. We all start somewhere, just starting out nursing school... this would have been extremely intimidating, but just take it all step by step.

I'm going to Rosalind Franklin which is a DNAP program in North Chicago. It starts in May which is a quick turn-around time. Most of the programs with applications out now don't start until 2018 so I'm happy to be jumping right in. Keep the videos coming! Could you do one on what you think is important to have (or not have) when starting school? I.e supplies you used the most vs ones that people said to have but you never found yourself using etc. I'm in planning mode right now lol. Thanks again!!

Keeping my eye on you and your progress. I am an independently practicing CRNA in NY. Good luck to you. BTW as a student I was taught to also always make the low O2 flow alarm come on by turning up my O2 flow and disconnecting the pipeline-O2 without using tank O2. When you disconnect the line, it takes a few seconds to purge the system of O2, but then you get an annoying alarm suggesting there is no oxygen. Always glad to know that it will work when I need it.

Hello there I find this video TV very informative from a patient's perspective I've had many surgeries it's nice to know how you all prepare anesthesia and how these machines actually work and knowing just exactly what's going on what's that mask is placed on the patient's face. Thanks for sharing.

Wow, you have to check the system manually before each patient? What is the name of the machine you use? I´m currently studying to become a CRNA in Norway, all the anesthesia machines I´ve seen here perform a self-testing cycle when you switch them on, only a few things are checked manually. I feel that I´m already under so much pressure that I wouldn´t have any time left to do manual testing! But it´s really cool to see how things are done differently in other countries, I will continue to watch your videos!! ;)
@AishaCRNA
@AishaCRNA 7 жыл бұрын
A DL There are so many different types of machines, this is a little older, but it's important to know how in case you walk into an OR one day and see a machine like this. And we don't do a full check before every patient
@alexanderdeluca8638
@alexanderdeluca8638 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I should probably learn how to check at least the vital things, unfortunately it´s easy to get too used to the machine checking everything for you! I´m only in my first semester, so I still have a LOT to learn! ;)

Hey im new to this channel and I aspire to be a crna but i m kinda nervous because I feel like it might be difficult. Is it difficult or not? I am a senior in HS with a 3.3 GPA, does it take a super duper smart person to be a crna or can a decent person like me become one?

current data suggests a 31% increase in demands for CRNA's by 2024. This is due to the growing aging population partially.

Sid Harville in what year do you think the last master degree program will be available? people are saying 2021, others say 2022
@sidharville4382
@sidharville4382 7 жыл бұрын
Its hard to say, but it's definitely true that they are converting to DNP's and going away from the MSN programs. That goes for Nurse Practitioners and CRNA's. I think 2021-2025 is probably a decent estimate for right now. A CRNA I spoke with said that it only really adds about another year to your continuing education going the DNP route and it's extra research paper type of work. I'm sure each program has its differences though. I think its probably best to not think about the work it will take to reach your goal (school) and just stay focused on the actual goal (becoming a CRNA)!! When the time comes see whats open and go for it.
@AishaCRNA
@AishaCRNA 7 жыл бұрын
I agree 1000%. It's kind of like the difference between an associates and BSN degree, a lot of research and paper and leadership type stuff.
@AishaCRNA
@AishaCRNA 7 жыл бұрын
My professors are super honest about this stuff with us, and I agree with Sid (can I call you that? lol). But the CRNA population is aging, so first thing, is that we need to replace them. Secondly, CRNAs are a cheaper option, and in more and more states, we are gaining our full practice authority, meaning we wont always need an MD to practice. So a cheaper option, to do the same work, means we will be in demand :)

It honestly wasn't too bad ( I can say that now). Not gonna lie, the first time I watched someone run through it... I was like "Uh, what?!". But I came in to practice probably a total of 5-6 times, and you get it down. It's all about repetition.
