We show you how the Marklin M-84 decoder is a digital replacement of your classic on/off switch.
The galvanic separation or isolation of the 4 output ports is a technical term. It means that the four output ports are not electrically connected to each other. The 4 output ports work essentially as relays, and can all be switching power from completely different power sources.
Each port (numbered 1 through 4) receives the wire from the power source to its center screw terminal. Each port will then switch back and forth between the left (red dot) terminal and the right (green dot) terminal.
In our example we use four different power sources:
Port 1) an old transformer and its accessory power output,
Port 2) an old transformer and its track power output,
Port 3) connect a windmill powered by yet another power supply,
Port 4) switch digital track power to a stop section of our layout.
