In case anyone is still wondering about the baseplate. These were part of the adult oriented Modulex line designed for architects. The were transparent so people could put a floor plan underneath them and build a Lego model on top with the exact dimensions. They were also designed to be cut and glued onto wood boards(yes really). The Modulex theme was very short lived and was created pretty early in Lego's history. And since the parts were designed to be cut and glued, and weren't really compatible with other Lego bricks, there's very few parts that survive to this day.
@AntBandit
@AntBandit 2 ай бұрын
This baseplate was actually not Modulex, as it was scaled with normal studs. Some have suggested it may have come from the LEGO Model Shop.

I think it's also used on build walls in toy stores where there's a picture underneath that people build overtop of. It could explain why the corners are damaged if it was removed from the display.

The clear faceplate was an internal piece only. Lego has made several of these unique piece over the years to help their testers and master builders. It probably was taken home by an employee then forgotten about then sold at some point lol. There's a Lego employee here on KZfaq that talks about some of these pieces from time to time, I cant for the life of me remember his channel name though :(

I've ordered from Wild Bricks GA more than once, and they do a great job. Interesting to see the store layout. I've been operating a store for almost 5 years, which is roughly half their size. One suggestion I would perhaps make, is to standardize the various types of storage as much as possible, just to have a more efficient picking workflow. There's certainly a need for a variety of small/medium/large drawer sizes, but beyond that keep the storage units consistent. We are moving away from bead storage type containers because we find them the most tedious to pick from.
@wildbricks1861
@wildbricks1861 10 ай бұрын
Hey Ben, thanks so much for the comments. I've thought about making our containers more uniform for a while. A lot of the containers came from purchasing other BL stores and their set ups. I plan to get rid of the container store drawers first and replace them with more of the sliding shoe racks and more of the sterilite drawers. The bead boxes hold more lots per sq ft than any other type of storage we have. We have so many small lots they are irreplaceable for us. ~Ginny~

The accountant in me is very curious about the inventory, accounting systems, and how profitable the business model is. I love how she vacuum seals the parts in bags. So much easier on the buyer side to assimilate the Lego into the various projects. Orders from Lego just get dumped into big bags and take a lot of time to sort by part.

@thorakvideos2495
@thorakvideos2495 2 ай бұрын
@@thedappercook Do you per chance run a professional BL store? Because I do... There is no cost for "running online" except 3% BL fee & PayPal fees. Taxes depend on where you live. She is obviously running the store from home so no rent or other bills. She was/is a stay at home mom, so she doesn't need to provide a big amount to the family finances. I hope for her that she makes a killing, but looking at her numbers, she isn't pulling more than 1000 to max 1500/month in profit. Sorting through USED lots of Lego is extremely time consuming. Once again, I wish her all the best, but the reality is that BL is oversaturated in sellers. Now, that is a good thing for most buyers but making a living from BL has become incredibly difficult.

The 48x48 transparent baseplate (4186) is by the way from Lego Land/Factory. They use them for their own builds that require transparent baseplates. Thats why you cant find them in any sets, but its not like "an production sample" or anything. Some years ago some of them were even sold at the factory.
