I'm not going to lie... I owned the MPC-X, the One, and the Force... I kept the Force because its work flow was different. It's hard to part from a classic MPC workflow to jump into a modern machine but the Force feels right. Soon as you hit "Shift* Note" and you see you have 64 pads with all the classic MPC settings for the first time it's hard to say "I don't need this".

Once capacitive screens become cheaper or more advanced, we will be seeing them on grooveboxes bigger and more often. Think of it like this: you got 16 pads, you got one rotating control knob AND a large touch screen, with disk streaming capabilities. One day AKAI will make something like this.

Akai Force might go down as the greatest MPC of all time! Now with the update that they came out with in the last few weeks. If that machine was any better than what it already is it would be pure gold. If you wanted to go minus a computer this would be the way to go. The force is underrated.

I'll be shocked if we don't see a MPC update to 3.0 in the next year that unifies the features between the Force and MPC. Likewise, I'd expect the Force to be supported in the MPC desktop software with all the Force's features like Arrange and Clips in the desktop software. Soon, the only difference will be what hardware unit you want based on your controller, portability, and I/O needs.

@@alchemistrpm82 internal battery is a horrible idea. When it dies you have to wait for it to recharge. The external batteries are much better. Mine last 5 hours and when it does, I can swap it out in no time. Even my small external battery runs it for 2 hours. The Force is Akai'sflagship product. The are vested in its success. @DyReck The Akai Force is official! Akai just dropped a major update 3.11 The science behind the Force is Akai filled a financial void by releasing the Force after the end of their relationship with Ableton ended. Akai made the Push 1 hardware for Ableton. Ableton made the Ableton Live SW. But in comes the Push 2 and Akai was not involved in the HW design at all. Ableton decides cut ties with Akai and do it themselves. Obviously this was a money decision. No Akai, Mo Money, Mo Money for Ableton. Simple math. But Akai was tight after Ableton took $ out of their pockets like that. How dare they! Never one to back down, Akai clapped back at Ableton with the Force and basically put Ableton Live in a stand alone unit. So for now Akai gets the last laugh. We will see what happens if and when Ableton decides to drop a Push 3 stand alone unit which I believe is coming. We shall see. And for all of the boom bap heads out there you can see the Force in action here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gd2Shbh_ps_cgnU.html Keep up the good work. Peace.

Push3 like M+ rumor could it be but with Apple Silicon will be a shot in their foot. Recently Ableton announced M1 compatibility so we will see where the rivers flow. Ableton for iPad pro with Push controller will be 20x more powerfull (and max compatible) than these embed rockchip linux machines. Look at M+ how dated seems against their own mk3+M1… Sandalone people hates iPads and Koala until sp404mk2 gets iPad compatibility lol ;) Bitwig could deliver an standalone if they partner with someone. At least they have Linux version meanwhile Ableton neglected that path so hard that developers jump into Bitwig (one of the reasons of that split back in the day)

Man, these things are just BIG. It's a lot to ask promoters to bring your hardware setup to DJ shows. You better be damn good if you're gonna take up that much space and make mic check 1 step longer. And, most of the little guys like me can't take up THAT much space. You can't bring your studio out (though I've seen some people do that....1 hour set-up and breakdown times lol) I'll never get this thing because it's too big. The Live is a perfect size. Cool video, but you skipped the whole arranger ordeal. And we hear so much complaining from folks who want disk streaming on MPC, but no one ever talks about how long Force users had to wait just to get the 2.10 updates like the new program (clip) edit and plugins. It goes both ways, and I imagine disk streaming will make it to the MPCs, unlike arranger mode, just judging by the popularity of the idea and the increased feasibility compared to an MPC arranger.

The other MPCs will get disk stream streaming too. No need to envy the Force. If I wanted the Force, I'd have one today. I run into memory issues because I use my MPC One for more than just making beats but composition of more melodic pieces that most people would use a DAW or workstation keyboard for. Yet, I can wait without feeling cheated. The only MPC I look at with longing is the Live II. Again, if I really wanted it, I'd have it on order today.

They also co-created the original Ableton performance controller APC40 with Ableton and AKAI…. It’s almost like back in the day Ableton could not make hardware and asked AKAI for help but now AKAI beats them at their own game as instead of having to buy a PC+Ableton Live+Push for 2500$ or more you can buy AKAI Force and get it all for $1300 … also beating out the Maschine+ … I don’t own it but it is very interesting and tempting :)
@ukaszKorecki
@ukaszKorecki 2 жыл бұрын
@@tobiaslofi It's exactly that - it's less risky for a software company (Ableton) to get into hardware by partnering with someone who's already established - you get their know-how and piggy back on the brand cache (Akai is well known) while also offering something new for the market (something that Akai def needed). Once Push was confirmed to be a success or at least not a flop, Ableton did what they had to which is take ownership of the platform by building Push 2 in house. I wonder how the deal worked in the background though, I don't remember if Akai followed up with new models of APC, but then again - they do have software support for controlling some aspects of Live in the MPC/Force hardware.

Only thing I can think of is its better for finger drumming but that is subjective due to force having WAY more pads which is actually amazing. More qlinks with an actual oled display of what the qlink is affecting much like MPC X. Crossfader etc. Way better when playing live shows etc. I used to own an X and its even better then that. Different workflows but I feel you… hiphopheadz are so square about how things should made and know very little about “what’s inside the box”. When the Live came out people was happy since the standalone legacy return… but Live to jjOS is like katana vs lightsword… the jjOS was the katana of the ancient masters sharped to the last atom of steel (assembler code into baremetal chips) meanwhile Live was a lightsword laser first steps… I said it everywhere “it’s not gonna be so thight in midi clock, etc…” people didn’t listen. It took some time until Akai put the things on place and it was risky because Nurkai was famous for drop things unfinished and plenty of bugs… but they deliver and keep updating so now we can say new Akais are giving respect to the brand legacy and Force can make them feel proud. They are doing the same like katana, juicing the very most to these rockchip embed platforms (2gb of Ram wtf?) with things like disk streaming and new synths/plugs. Even my forever-rejecting-Force-friends are now saving money to get one and let macbook/Ableton at home. So there is people knowing the Force potential (and limitations) but these aren’t hiphopheadz-standalone-12bitsconverters ones, I’m agree…

The Force is something to be reckoned with. Really, wtf more could you ask for? Akai absolutly spoiled us with pure potential so if you cant make a full production with this unit, look for a different career or hobby, cause music production ain't your lane to be in. This is a full toolbox of music production, beat making, jam tool, dj-like workflow, christ its almost anything you want it to be, there is a thousand ways to skin a cat with the Akai Force, thats the real beauty of it. Akai nailed it with this masterpiece. I was a 20 year pad banger on the MPC and I watched the first videos Akai released with Nick Trikakis at the wheel and I was sold on those alone. Easiest transition from the MPC you can possibly make while still remaining an MPC at heart but with an evolved workflow. But still, its not the tools that make the mechanic.....
@apoclypse
@apoclypse 2 жыл бұрын
The Force imo is the dopest thing Akai has done in a long time. I like the MPC, but the Force is more appealing if you like a more "modern" workflow. The reason why it didn't take off was because when it came out it didn't have an arranger so you couldn't make a full song on it, you couldn't sample edit with the pads like the MPC, that with the price made the device seem undercooked. Akai took over a year to address those issues with no updates in site for the machine, effectively killing a lot of interest in the machine for a lot of people. So many people returned it. Then they released 3.0.5 with the arranger, the updated macros workflow which imo is the best macro functionality of any hardware ever. They added the plugins that the MPC had, they updated the sample workflow to work just like the MPC. Okay, people were not interested, it seemed like Akai didn't actually abandon the machine, but another year went by with no updates, then 3.1 comes out. Now the Force, imo, is the best piece of standalone gear ever created. It's mulitrack recorder, it had full arrangement, it has decent sounding plugins, disk streaming etc. The MPC users can be mad all they want, they at least have been getting consistent updates for the MPC since it was released. Akai updates the MPC about every quarter. The Force updates are sporadic and there is usually about a year between updates leaving a lot of users in the wind. However when they do drop a Force update they are signifiant improvements.
