YUP, this lil "hack" has gotten me through the years when I've been broke and needing multichannel. I've been rocking the RME Babyface + 1998 Alesis ADAT XT (Blackface) via optical to get 10 great input channels. It's crazy but even though it's only 16-bit resolution, and has no (and needs no) gain/volume control, I can't hear how the Alesis' channels sound inferior to my RME channels. I bought the ADAT for $40 because it has a broken tape mechanism. It's a heavy brick to lug every time I move, but Alesis clearly did some masterful engineering of the circuitry behind these (RCA unbalanced) inputs; I've looked into buying the $56 ELCO cable that'd give me 8 balanced XLR inputs on a snake, but I'm not having any issues that would seem to necessitate that. I did this in like 2015 upon reading that in the early Pro Tools days big producers didn't like the sound of the input conversion so they hooked up their ADATs. I meant to get a 24-bit model, and they do exist, but this one works great.

I have read in some Yamaha documentation that they recommend using a word clock with ADAT, but it's probably more of an issue if you're combining multiple ADAT heads together. I also see Tascam's TDIF and multichannel AES/EBU, but they seem a lot less popular than ADAT. so much frankensteining possible with all these bits and bobs... I bet that apogee AD8000 can be plugged into an RME digiface and still sound pretty damn good. :)
@DyReckProductionsКүн бұрын
Yep that Apogee will still sound amazing!..Yeah they do recommend a good clock if your combining 3 or more digital sources together..With 2 you should be good.

best thing you can do for your studio on the budget is RME Digiface USB and 4 motus 828mk2s and you have 32inputs with RME drivers for around $1000 (rme from Thomann- Motus Ebay/reverb?) RME/Motu configuration requires a bit knowledge but once you set this up you're golden

i got the octopre as an add on to my steinberg ur824… the yellow button adds the saturation on those units….good for tracking out from my mpc 1000, yamaha motif classic and the korg electribe mx ……. only problem is the DAW (studio one)clock never tracks in sync and still have to move your audio tracks to line up. my old setup was sonar 8.5 producer edition… on windows..i wish they would bring that back but for Mac… also sucks on the MPC 1000 when you track out using the 4 outputs , internal effects get bypassed…..they need to make a modern day version of the Nico or Meco i forgot what it was called i saw your video on it. something that is basically a computer with everything you need and nothing else so all your processing power and storage is for music and with all the mixer and automation control built into one but they wont make as much money if the do that. the best thing they did with the new MPCs recently was make it possible to track out 8 separate tracks over the usb with that protocol compliant thing or whatever its called. they should make an OS for all the MPCs that will enable them to tracks out separate tracks and channels over one usb cord. its sad that JJ even ever had to be created :just goes to show you how little the manufacturer cares about the customer.

I’m able to play some instruments already with Reason’s default scene 16 but I’d like to use the 16 levels template with Kong but the librarian fails to recognise or “see” the device

Anyway, was gonna buy this recently for a drum rig (the form factor & triggers, especially), but a couple of reasons stopped that: 1) old release due for an upgrade, and it has a physical USB flaw/weakness 2) still too pricey on ebay Will likely buy a v1 on v2 release, and for the right price.

What you saw in that Roger Linn video is probably all there is to it. Time has moved on. Linn has moved on. Akai has moved on. Now some of the MPC users need to move on. One video isn’t an indicator of changes to come.
@dianevrules8 күн бұрын
I dont care. I am satisfied with my MPC 2000 Classic. If Akai wants to improve their current MPC workstations, they can start by adding the following features: 1. at least 8 1/2" individual inputs for folks who want at least 8 tracks recorded in the MPC on a single pass 2. at least 8 1/2" individual outputs for folks who want at least 8 tracks sent out on a single f**&& pass 3. SMPTE reader/generator like MPC 4k and older MPCs. So these modern MPCs can sync with anything that doesnt have midi 4. quality sounding professional converters. Not that consumer-quality bs that's in any MPC that doesnjt say manufactured by Akai Electric LTD IDGAF about bs workflow or any other plugins. Just implement those 4 motherf((*(*( That's it. Otherwise, f&&& any future MPC workstation

The 4000 was THE MOST complete MP ever made @ the time of release. We had a few. A synth,the first machine to completely handle WAV files natively , and the transferring of WAV files through usb and not scsi or floppy 👎 . A feature which gets overlooked. The creation of keygroups was all 4k. 24bit samples and more. The new MP’s to us are an extension of the 4k and Ren combined for a more complete and modern setup
