At 52:00 when Kana is talking about the barrage of abuse, and the way it mentally impacts her and others, the camera's on Ruby. And we see her do a slight movement, a reaction to it. And it's made me wonder if it's because Ruby is remembering all the abuse she's done to others online in the past, and what sort of impact she might've had negatively as a result. Because the very first thing Aqua sees her doing is telling people to die online.

2:32:38 This is also one point I feel odd about Akane's deduction. One way I tried to explain to myself is that perhaps Ai expressed herself in a rather open or suggestive way that was often unseen in typical sexually modest Japanese high school girls that Akane often sees around her. I think Akane has access to way higher amount of resources than us viewers do - for example, from episode 01 we only see still frames of Ai doing radio show, promotions and acting beside her idol activities, but we never really know how they went. Akane may actually have watched/listened to all those recordings and picked up more things from them. I can imagine Akane deducing Ai's understanding of sex and relationship through how she behaved during fan meetings and interaction with male colleagues - she's secretive but not completely tight-lipped (she almost slipped about having babies in that NStation TV show back when the twins were a few months old). Anyway it's just my way to make sense of how Akane thinks, it isn't confirmed or supported by either the manga or the anime.
@MegaApostel
@MegaApostel Жыл бұрын
Different also is we get to known Ai with 16. but she was already an idol with 12 so that’s 4 more years that Akane could search up for and see the difference
@hagahong3327
@hagahong3327 Жыл бұрын
@MegaApostel yes, that too. Ai had at least 7 or 8 years of public record before her death, with the last 4 being pretty filled as her career improved after her "hiatus". This is only my guess, but Ai might have had sexual experience way before she was 15, and she expressed herself in ways that misguided delusional fans like Ryousuke (the murderer) into thinking she was appealing to them romantically, that's why he was so parasocial and angry that she had kids. If someone like Ryousuke could be hinted that way, it wouldn't be too farfetched to think Akane came across the same signs just by checking MVs, concert videos and fan events.
@sojtus8681
@sojtus8681 Жыл бұрын
Well besides all that, it is also entirelly possible that following Ai´s murder her case was looked at in articles/school studies written by actual psychologists. So not all the deductions would necessarily have to come from her directly.
@Nolroa
@Nolroa Жыл бұрын
@@sojtus8681 It's obvious that years have passed since Ai's death and Akane may have done quite a bit of research. First she went to the library, maybe there is a newspaper library where she read several articles from the time of Ai's death which should be quite a lot since according to the first episode, the news reached a national level and there were many frames of newspapers giving the same news as well as videos of her presentations and based on that she built a profile

Honestly that final scene was mindblowing in so many ways, not only did Mephisto once again elevate a scene, but also the fact that Manaka Iwami was able to capture Rie's Ai almost perfectly aswell blew me away. Then of course all the narrative implications on what Aqua must have felt in that moment and Akane was just an inch away of figuring out Ai's truth. Also gotta love the way the animators had Akane walking "into camera" just like Ai toward the end of the music video, or how the camera focuses on Akane's mouth in a similar style as Ai's during the OP, or the way that as Akane continues to slip further and further into the character the light steadily moves up her body until finally revealing her eyes. The directing is so good in this show it's SO GOOD. Literally the best anime I've ever seen.

I recognize some structures in oshi no ko I am the author of the original article in gamer blog (巴哈姆特), so this is not plagiarism: The following are my partial translations. TLDR: DSM Cluster B (dramatic) personality traits and Cluster C (anxious) personality traits The story has two cores in the lens of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) --- (I think Akasaka was inspired by DSM, but not strictly following it.) Cluster B (dramatic) personality traits that shines in showbiz. Aqua: antisocial traits Ruby: Narcissistic traits Kana: Histrionic traits Akane: Borderline traits Ai: all four personality traits, which make her invincible. Cluster C (anxious) personality traits that causes pain in relationships. Aqua: Obsessive-compulsive and Avoidant traits Kana: Avoidant and Dependent traits Akane: Dependent and Obsessive-compulsive traits Ai: all three personality traits What’s with the star in the eyes? It symbolizes the tendency to bend the reality (and the tendency is caused by lacking sense of reality). When the star turns black, it symbolizes disdain over the reality. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Elaborations of Cluster B (dramatic) traits Aqua (Antisocial): constant lying, manipulative, lack of remorse, tendency to take risks; switching different façade with ease, capitalize the weakness and blindness of audiences and people in the business --- a sleek entertainer, also a dangerous man. Ruby (Narcissistic): energetic, extremely confident, overwhelming aura --- a super star; supercilious, ruthless, drunk in fantasies. Kana (Histrionic): blends in with situation well, exaggerate emotions to drive the atmosphere --- a contagious show maker; frequently seeking attentions and affections, moody, easy to go with the flow, overestimate intimacy with others. Akane (Borderline): deep empathy, the ability to empty her identity --- a gifted actress; sensitive, prolonged emotions, all-or-nothing thinking, disturbed sense of identity/self-worth. Ai (All): constant lying, manipulative, tendency to take risks, energetic, extremely confident, overwhelming aura, ruthless, drunk in fantasies, blends in with situation well, shallow emotions, easy to go with the flow, the ability to empty her identity, disturbed sense of identity/self-worth, self-injury. Elaborations of Cluster C (dramatic) traits Aqua: try to arrange people and things on his ideal pedestal --- Obsessive-compulsive; hide his feeling under numerous masks --- Avoidant. Kana: pushing people away with her fear of getting hurt --- Avoidant; obey Aqua --- Dependent. Akane: prioritize others’ feeling over her own --- Dependent; set strict standards/obligations for herself --- Obsessive-compulsive. Ai: frugal, perfectionism --- Obsessive-compulsive; nonchalant, unable to express love --- Avoidant; over-attached --- Dependent. The most vulnerable character. What’s with the star in the eyes? It symbolizes the tendency to bend the reality (and the tendency is caused by lacking sense of reality). When the star turns black, it symbolizes disdain over the reality. The star owners have huge potential to cause "cognitive distortions" of other people. Aqua: bend reality with his intelligence and perfectionism; the star manifests in his right eye is govern by his left-brain rationality. Ruby: bend reality with her sensibility and desire for exposure; the star manifests in her left eye is govern by her right-brain sensibility. (As someone who were reborn, the twins lack their sense of reality. Additionally, they constantly deceived people around themselves in their previous lives. That's how they get their "star".) Ai: bend reality with perfectionism and desire for exposure. Akane: by mimicking Ai, she learns some emotional expression and calculated manners to induce "cognitive distortions" of other people, but she doesn't truly lack her sense of reality, thus the star in her eyes is "fake" and temporary. That said, as a person with disturbed sense of identity/self-worth, I think she may have a chance to possess "True star" in her eyes as the story goes on. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Aqua: developed "Avoidant" and "Obsessive-compulsive" in the previous life (I don't want to spoil you with the reason.); developed "Antisocial" due to witnessing death and attempting vengeance. Kana: as a genius child actor, we can imagine she have been "Histrionic" since young; as she grew up, she went from "attention seeking" to "attention pleading"(start to possess Dependent mindset), and the experience of being abandoned result in her "Avoidant". Akane: sensitive and empathetic, as a child theater actor under great pressure, she developed "Dependent", " Obsessive-compulsive" and "Borderline ".

Too many thoughts were went to my brain once they show Akane's Star Eyes (I'd like to call it Theater mode Akane - B Komachi's Ai), my first initial thought is it might be correlated to the person's secondary color of their eye, but when you brought up the topic of it being yellow, something clicked on me and started searching what is the first lightbulb that ever invented. It's Incandescent Lightbulb, and they emit *yellowish light* . Akane's Star Eyes are yellow, just like an incanedscent lightbulb, because she crafted the ideal Ai from basically surface knowledge or at least that's what I think about it

Some of the things said in chat in response to the Yuki slap actually made me super uncomfortable. It's really like people don't even understand the messages told in these episodes. Yes, the slap is pretty much objectively bad. It can be argued that it doesn't help Akane and it was an emotional response from Yuki. But do people really believe this entire time that Yuki was planning this slap preemptively and did it completely with malicious intent to ease her own feelings. It was simply a response from someone who is 15 and has not had the life experiences to know the best way to approach Akane. She's not immune to feeling bad about herself and people are acting like she is. But then chat said some crazily egregious things. Like it's incredibly ironic that as a result of this slap, I saw people saying Aka Akasaka is ignorant about these topics, I saw people call Yuki names. Like is this literally not the messages that these episodes are trying to advocate against people saying. "But Yuki is a fictional character" But I don't think the people making these comments are thinking oh I am only flaming her because she isn't real, I wouldn't do this to a real person. It really shows how real this stuff is when some people watching the show can't even stop to consider what they're typing themselves.

As a part of the volunteer small moderation team on the stream, which we plan to grow, I will say that this stream had 200 more people than our 2nd biggest stream. We had our hands full already with both massive spoiler drops in addition to keeping things clean. While I understand where you are coming from about a handful of people being malicious towards a fictional character, we are more focused on preventing real harm to real people. If you go into any stream of this episode from other reactors, you will likely be able to pick and choose people from their chats who do the same thing. More often than not, you will find the reactor themselves calling Yuki names. I agree that this is an issue, but it is such a wide spread one amongst all anime content. Real people are more important though, so with our limited team, we prioritize on preventing real people getting hurt or spoiled over the non-existent feelings of drawn characters. Both Yuki and Akane are well written. It's easy to sympathize with them, but not everyone will. But at the end of the day, trying to stand up for fictional characters by banning or kicking real people is unrealistic to ask for volunteers. I do hope people take in this shows message to heart! Take care of and love one another in this harsh environment!

Honestly, considering Ai's words in 45510, education probably was used against her, or at least, her lack of it compared even to the other idols in the group. Multiple times she comments about calling her an idiot like they used to or being an idiot or being called such, as if its been completely normalized to her to a point she almost views it in a positive light because its at least attention at all. Coming from her background of both abuse and neglect...even negative attention is still attention unfortunately.

@@Nolroa Yup because he is reincarnated he doesn't see Ai as his mom. Also if he did he'd have every chance to call her mom when he was at the age to talk in front of her, at their house when it's only just the family. But he never did. So the yes the reincarnation part is true, but him no calling Ai, "mom" due to being discrete about the secret doesn't make sense. It didn't happen once. Meaning Aqua as been fully rejecting Ai as his mother. The fact that's it's never shown, and that we only seee Aqua refer to Ai as his mother in a weird analytical way during inner monologues goes to show on a conscious level on how much Aqua is reluctant and even a bit rejecting to call Ai, "mom". Though subconsciously unbeknownst to himself think Aqua partially accepts Ai as his mom because of the way his eyes wavered in that teary animation sequence when Ai was dying and said "I love you". On a conscious level Aqua rejects loving Ai as his mother. Subconsciously it's the exact opposite. I think this is points to Aqua as not fully accepting his current existence. I think he considers himself as a stranger or an invader inside another person's body.

Apparently rn Ai is second place as Japan’s best mom, and to that i simply said: “Ai wasnt the BEST milf anime mom, but she definitely was a good mom. She spent much more time with her kids than most celebrities and, hell, even most average joes do; made even more impressive by the fact that she herself is the product of a broken home. She loved them; she showed that she cared about them; even told her kids and Miyako about how much she wants to do for them; prioritized her kids when others wouldnt have; etc etc. Ofc, she can never be the BEST mom cuz at the end of the day: She was an extremely flawed person, being two face af. She was lying pretty much 90% of the time. Her ideology not only would lead to her eventual downfall, but would also rub off on her kids, leading to Aqua’s impulsive lying and manipulation. And, She couldnt tell her kids that she loved them until she already had both feet out the door, which would leave them both horrifically traumatized and scarred from the experience. She was def a great mom, but she was by no means the best lol”

Nana sen yon hyaku is 7400. Mistranslation in the subs, but 7400 retweets is hella impressive regardless. My worry about Akane is that she doesn’t have a really grounded sense of self. She doesn’t know who she really is, but give her a role to bury herself in, and…. Wow. I never thought method acting was healthy when I studied acting in college, but I only dabbled in it. I did discover I’m pretty good at improv though and it helped my portrayals of NPCs at the TTRPG tables. And I think that was the issue with Akane early on in the show. She’s a method actor without a clearly defined self but couldn’t find a role to be. “How do you know about Ai?” It’s the same reason why people in Texas still wear Selena t-shirts (Tejano idol killed by her fan in the 90’s) or other people still wear John Lennon tees even though they’re 2, 3, or even 4 generations removed from the performer.

But it still sounds like a distant reference for someone to know especially when those involved are too young to know what happened. It is the equivalent of a person claiming to have been born after 2001 knowing full details of the 9/11 attacks but no historical reference to the event, no movies, documentaries or memorials would have been made in all that time until today. In the world of Oshi no ko, it seems that Ai's death would have been like a forgotten story at the time Aqua is in the reality show for most of the showbiz people and general public in Japan (Selena Quintanilla was known in the United States and a large part of Latin America and John Lennon is remembered for being a world-class star)... That's why the fact that Mem is the only person who gives so many details about her name and the idol band she was in, being supposedly as young as Aqua and the rest of the cast makes many raise an eyebrow (Especially Aqua) at why she knows so much while Akane's response is "The idol who died a long time ago?" as if she didn't know anything else about her at that moment. Notice that it is Mem who has to do a Google search on her Smartphone to show an Ai picture to Akane.

Your analysis is so incredible, I'm learning so much from your videos! I'm a new viewer on your channel and your in-depth breakdown of this show has been so entertaining and spot-on. I've only watched the Oshi no Ko stuff but I'll definitely check out the other stuff as well when I have time! As a person in the medical field as well I appreciate how approachable you are, how engaged you are with your community and how passionate you are at educating us about your field of work. My field is urology but I've always had interest in psychology, so watching you has been very eye-opening about stuff that's even happening in my own life. I'm currently going to therapy about some stuff like anxiety and self-doubt, so your content is very relatable and real. It's difficult for me to watch you live because of my work schedule and me living in Europe but I'll be following you from KZfaq and try and tune in some time on Twitch if I'm free. Keep up the good work, you're amazing!

I found it kinda funny how chat was like defending Akane when you were breaking down her process. Of course it is anime so not every detail will be reached in the proccess, only the key ones so that Akane’s intelligence is highlighted with maybe a bit of process skipping to cutdown on time as well. Yes i understand the irony of my comment.

When Aqua first said he trace the way to convenient store is because Aqua probably got the Akane address, because he is literally in front of the house with the family name sign in front call Kurokawa is which Kurokawa Akane Full name, and realistically speaking to trace the closest or the path with the most possibilities that Akane will take to convenient store is likely to be only one or two place, so i would firmly think that Aqua have no bad intent. Anyway if there are more psychological aspect underlying I would want to learn more

For the slap scene. I mean, if you were to translate it directly that's what it says. "why did you worry us like that". But the Japanese language is full of sayings that are just "expected" or "usual" to be said in certain situations. To make my point I'll use a thing that happened to me recently. I've been studying Japanese for 3 years now, and I attempted to thank the co-worker who helped me a lot with annoying cross team issues. The following exchange happened: Me: いつもありがとうございます. (I am always grateful for your help.) Him: どういたしまして、お役に立てて光栄です. (You're welcome, it's an honor to help you) NGL, I was a bit taken aback by that honor part. That's a really strong feeling. My teacher didn't seem at all surprised when I told her. So I'm guessing that the part about "why'd you worry is like that" kind of falls in that things you say in these sort of situations, and shouldn't be taken literally. I'll give you another example from Romanian. It's customary when someone is talking about their kid and you don't know the age, to ask how old the kid is. The exchange would go something like this: Person: Ah, desi e asa mic, deja a inceput sa mearga. (Ah, despite being so young, he already started walking) Me: Oh, cati ani are? (Oh, how old are they?) Person: Are un an jumatate acum. (He's one and a half years old) In this situation, the usual answers are as follows: 1) Sa-ti traiasca (May he live) 2) Multi inainte (Many [years - implied not said] ahead)) 1 is more common than 2. If you take it literally that's some real freaky ass shit implied if you don't say either of them. So I'm inclined to believe that "why'd you worry us like that" in this situation is the expected "saying" in this setting, and not Yuki literally saying "why'd you inconvenience us with your attempt". It might also be that it's a "what about us" situation, but considering the outreach that Yuki had with Akane during both the last episode (noticing her panic attack during the shoot and immediately pulling her back to "reality" and having a conversation about what just happened in which they grounded and reaffirmed their relationship, keeping in contact with her afterwards) and this one (being the first through the door at the police station, being the one going for the hug) I'm having a hard time picturing her saying "what about us" and meaning it. Edit after watching a bit more of what you said: Yea, the slap was out of place, I was only going for the language used :D I can see myself slapping someone but I'd have to be pushed beyond the edge to do it.

Further note, I think Akane's remarks about education was to determine how Ai would be talking. I agree education is used as a tool to bring others down, but I also think that the speech patterns used by educated people differ from those of uneducated people and as such in constructing the role of Ai, that observation was necessary.

I would think the slap was like a “Get a Hold of Yourself, man!” moment, which is a trope in movies and TV series (Literally that's what it's called on the Tv Tropes website) But that in real life is the most inappropriate thing to do after such a stressful situation.

But the moment I became aware of my emotions, I started wanting to cut them out at the same time politics, psychology and sociology started to interst me and in that i started to form a mask of obsession, and a craving for power. I always have this mask on even around my own family. And yes i am isolating myself have been for years now. I could give every excuse for why but truthfully i am hurting and thats because I recognized the true world I live in was not some golden age like I belived it to be and all my ambitions for a peaceful relaxed life as a marine biologist or artist ended.

~2:02:40 The line "It's her abdominal aorta. Shit!" was supposed to tip us off that there was nothing even an adult Aqua could have done for Ai at that point. Google says the chances of dying from penetration of the abdominal aorta are 50-70%, and that's under ideal conditions where the stabbing instrument is still in place, preventing blood from flooding out freely. In Ai's case, the stalker sliced it with the knife, which he pulled back out again, leaving the blood to flow freely out of a possibly very large wound. At that point, Ai's fate was sealed and Aqua knew it, which is why, after realizing the nature of her injury, he just gives up and lets her hold him. Obviously, that knowledge doesn't make his survivor guilt any less, but he wouldn't have been under any illusions that he could have done more if he'd been an adult.

I found your channel when I was watching a clip from the previous episode, and in the comments someone said "Psyculturists is gonna have a field day with this one" or something along those lines. So I looked you up, and started watching your Re: Zero reaction, because it is one of my favorite anime, and I think it was your first reaction as well, so I got to see the beginning of this channel, and the evolution all the way to season 2. And man, those 50 videos, I've loved every single minute. Some of them I haven't watched so much as listened to while I work, since I know both seasons by heart, and it's been amazing. So yeah, I found you through a random comment, I know a lot of reaction channels but I'd never heard of you, and that's a crying shame, because your analysis of the characters makes rewatching the show that much better I've pretty much binge watched your Re: Zero reaction, it's been like, what, 6 days? I think people use the word “abuse” too loosely nowadays. There are parents who even think that something like a child crying during wrestling stance conditioning exercises is abusive when abuse is not that black and white. Normally, hitting someone happens for one of 2 reasons: Either the attacker is angry at the target and wants to hurt them, which is abuse; Or the target is doing something that they know is wrong, yet they still dont care, so the attacker disciplines them. In both situations, there is aggressive physical contact, but the context is what changes the meaning. Outside of those usual 2 situations, there is another less common reason: The attacker has such a wild mix of emotions that they cant find a sound way to express them; or in other words, passion. The line that separates ‘Abuse’ and ‘Discipline’ is razor thin, but is noticeable if youre paying close attention. Meanwhile, ‘Passion’ can be a double edge sword, as its neither confined to the ‘Abuse’ or ‘Discipline’ side. But in this case, Yuki’s slapping Akane was done out of passion that leans towards Discipline, as she’s frustrated, worried, confused, and sad that Akane would even consider taking her own life as a solution; so out of the heat of passion, she slapped her. As someone who grew up with abuse and mental health issues, i know very well that hitting someone “for disciplines sake” isnt always a viable option. My belief is: Some kids learn through listening and advice. Some kids learn through sight and experience. Some kids learn through pain and hardships. And some kids, even through everything, just never learn at all. When Yuki slapped Akane, it took me aback. Cuz when i was 8 years old and felt suicidal, i talked to a counselor i was friends with at a club i used to go. When i told her how i felt, she looked me dead in the eyes with the most serious face and told me, “You better not even think of killing yourself. Cuz if you kill yourself, I’ll find a way to bring you back to life just so i can kick your ass.” As bad as that sounds being said to an 8 year old, those words stuck with me hard, and it made me realize a little of how people on the outside of these situations feel. I hate pain. I grew up being hit so damn much, i cant stand any amount of pain at all. Nothing on this planet makes me see more red and hear more static than being forcibly touched by another person. Even today, I’m friends with this girl i used to crush on in HS, and now we’re both aware and certain that we wouldve been an awful couple, as shes into BDSM(especially S and M), and you already know what i think about that stuff. But theres something completely different about the sentiment in knowing that, if you were to make rash decisions, your loved ones would be there to ‘beat some sense into you*(99% figuratively) “Abuse” caused by ‘Passion’ in order to ‘Discipline’ a loved one communicates volumes about someone’s feelings of confusion and desperation even more than words ever could. I know for a fact that if i attempted like that, my friends would be the first people to kick my ass for pulling that stupid shit. And knowing that my friends would be absolutely livid if i killed myself helps my heart feel a little lighter. Overall, i think hitting is no bueno, period. And growing up, im 100% certain i wouldve been better off without it. But, i cant deny that there are some times where it WAS effective, like when i used to steal from people and places all the time.

It is the way of method actors to interpret their characters. Robert De Niro prepared and built his character of Travis Bickle for the 1976 movie Taxi Driver being a taxi driver for a while in order to collect anecdotes and experiences between passengers and other fellow taxi drivers as well as visiting and meeting Vietnam vets to see how they behaved and what their thoughts were.

2:31:44 " Signs of a developmental disorder unbalanced in a way characteristic of a kid who had sex during puberty" I think this is a slight subtitle error as in the manga these two sentences were different . Akane says "Signs of developmental disorder" And after that "Emotionally unbalanced typical of kids who had sex during puberty" So these two sentences were not one in the manga and it didn't specify unbalanced in what way? Although i have no idea how akane came to the conclusion that Ai had sex maybe because of her affection bias as she desires love? So maybe she assumes AI seeked sex to know what "love" is?

prolly a cultural thing (remember akane has access to a lot of material about ai 8 years of her career as an entertainer) she might have not had that reserved , timid behavior when interacting with boys so that might have lead akane to believe that she had experience and that is why she acted out of line/unbalanced

I think it's funny how people who are supposed to understand people can't understand how Yuki is caring about Akane. She slapped her because she cares and she is not 30+ guy with psychological PhD and she slapped Akane who is also not 30+ guy. Akane opened her eyes after that, it was literal. Yuki also made that their hug was good-looking, not because she is selfish, it's because she knew how this situation will be considered by audience and she made effort so staff could use even fixed camera shots. She did a lot for Akane's sake. I can't belive how people don't see that.

Judging by your reaction at 2:19:10 I would guess that's not a good thing and I will be curious to found out what implications that could create XD, but I've been wondering: could an Oedipe complex really be applied in this case? I do not know much on the subject, and I have no psychology background (only NLP), so I'm not trying to diagnose or something the like so if I'm using words or concepts in the wrong way, having false assumption on something or going ahead of myself, just let me know, I'm open to learning :D . This is mostly how I imagine things on Aqua's situation here :) Here is the question that had comes to mind: if this complex is "built up" through the life of the kid would it really work with a reincarnate person that doesn't take his/her reincarnation as a reset? Here's my train of thought, since Aqua still see himself as his old self (or at least some part of him) instead of who he actually his, looking through the eyes of his past life for most of his beliefs and experience instead of what is in front of him. Could it be possible that the image he have of his mother is most likely the one in his past life instead of the new one? That his "true" mother is still the one in his past life. In contrast of Ruby, who seems to have taken her reincarnation as a new start, resetting old beliefs, and viewing things from the present point of view. Where Ai has become her "true" mother, replacing the old one. Does it somewhat make sense? Yes biologically speaking Ai is his mother in this life, but would this still count as an Oedipe complex since he already gone through life (even beyond where he is currently at) once and doesn't seems to have reset some of his old beliefs/perceptions like Ruby seems to have done? I would be curious to see people's thoughts about this :) By the way, first time here, and I am here to stay. I really love the contents and it is really interesting! Edit: syntaxe
