As a pregnant person in Japan right now, that last one broke my heart. I’m sure no one in my little countryside town will do that to me, but my heart breaks for that man, his child, and his murdered wife. To die in that way is just awful, and to be the one left to find it is also horrific. I don’t know if I’d want my husband to tell our child if that happened to me and was how our baby came into the world. Regardless of whether the baby grew up to know the truth, I do hope the father sought therapy and is doing well, and I hope the child is well too.

The poisoned tea story reminds me of the tainted Tynenol cases from 1982 that happened in the US. @linseydejager1716
@linseydejager1716 Жыл бұрын
Same. Baby snatching is never cool, and the horror those poor families (especially the mothers) have to go through... but snatching from the womb is even more horrible, since the victim seldom lives. At least the child was left behind. My theory is because it had injuries which would be difficult for the culprit to explain away.
@Nylak-Otter

Haha, I'm kind of interested in it, but it feels more normal to me. I used to frequently foster orphaned wildlife though my state's conservation department (the results would either be released or kept for educational purposes, depending on their level of socialization). But I frequently ended up with newborn opossums, because when you hit and kill a mother opossum on the road you can sometimes pull the infants from her pouch still alive. It feels a bit weird to pull them from the dead mother like that, but it does save adorable little opossum lives.
@ghostlyfae8721
@ghostlyfae8721 5 ай бұрын
@@Nylak-Otter Although different, this reminds me of a disturbing situation that happened over a year ago on October 30th. My family and I live up a hill with good spacing between neighbors. Living in a small town with lots of nature (although sadly decreasing), we get plenty of wildlife roaming about (deer, foxes, coyotes, turkeys, and so on). In my family's backyard, there is a chain-linked fence that blocks the woods (as those acres belong to our neighbor just on the outskirts of town). On the day before Halloween, my family and I noticed a dead red axe deer (a.k.a. axis deer) right on the other side of the fence. Examining her, she had no wounds other than her belly being carved out hollow. Her entrails were displayed. What's even more sickening, her fetus/baby was right beside her (but the leaves were covering most of its body, so my parents didn't notice till I mentioned it). We have no idea who or what did this, but my dad reported it. For some reason though, the authorities didn't take the incident seriously and claimed that it had to be coyotes. Out of respect to the momma dear and her child, I named them Lucia (meaning "light") and Angel (referring to how some stillborn babies are named as such). I greet her almost every day to show that she and her child's life weren't meaningless. I am aware that axis deer are an invasive species where I live, but this method of "hunting" was grotesquely inhumane.

I get what you mean about the psychology based interest in trie crime. For me, it’s that, but also a desire to determine “what can we learn from this, about the people who do these things? How can the knowledge we gain about these types of people help us to prevent further tragedies, reduce the likelihood of more people turning out this way?” It’s important to not simply write off killers as “monsters” because doing so makes it easy to dismiss the fact they are humans, which can distract from learning about how these people turned into killers, and how society at large can work to prevent these things from happening as much as possible. If we simply disregard them as “monsters” there is no helping it, they aren’t “people” so nothing could have been done, and nothing can be done. It takes any onus of change off society as a whole to learn and work to prevent future tragedies by placing 100% of the blame on a word like “monster” and thus making it into a tragedy that could not have been helped, nor could anyone do anything to prevent future ones. Even accounting for anti-social personality disorders and things like psychopathy and sociopathy, the overwhelming majority of them manage to blend into society and live normal lives because the resources they have allow them to recognize the benefit of doing so, and equip them to do so. By stripping away any recognition of humanity due to the fear of the unknown that makes people comfortable persecuting those that are somehow “different” can only serve as an impetus for more tragedy, in my opinion. I think it’s important to be careful in choices of phrasing, as words take shape in the unconscious mind, and influence how we behave without ever being aware of it. One should never discount the evil that grows in a person and takes over to lead to such atrocities, and it’s bad to get into a fetishized “I could have saved them/changed them” mindset around killers, but it’s also not helpful to ignore they are humans, who under different circumstances, COULD have been prevented from doing what they did. Yes, at the time they choose to act on their impulses, the fault and responsibility falls entirely upon the individual, but before that point, there is a degree of societal responsibility to learn and enact change in attempt to prevent such outcomes as much as possible. “Monster” is a word that allows people to fall into bystander effect mode without ever realizing. Humans are capable of great violence and atrocity, moreso than any other being we know of so far. It’s important to recognize that as a facet of humanity in order to mitigate it.

Might you ever consider doing a behind-the-scenes video of the work and processes you go through in creating your Detective Aki videos? It's quite clear to me the level of work for these to research, organize, and present this information is a lot more involved than for example: some of your Why Japan?! types of videos.

I wonder if you could actually find some Japanese detectives to sit down and do a Q&A with. It would be interesting to see what they deal with, since the crime rate there is so low, at least compared to somewhere like the US.

Marilyn Manson made a comment in one of his interviews of people doing crimes because they want to be celebrities. We do exactly that, we give them what they want. They become a legend from their crime by inspiring media. Something to think about with your comment.

When I was pregnant, I lived at a shelter and I was so so paranoid, I would close all the blinds, close and lock every single door because I had this extreme paranoia that someone was going to rip my baby from me, literally. That case actually scared me sh*tless 😮
@valvihk3649
@valvihk3649 2 ай бұрын
At least you didn't hear about a case of a pregnant woman being found dead with the baby. Blood and guts were all out. Apparently, there was a complication with the umbilical cord and when she did a home birth, her intestines were pulled with the baby. Poor woman ripped off her nails against the floor before she died. After this story, I don't think I could have kids.

@@valvihk3649 holy moly. That’s crazy. She must’ve pushed so hard that the lining holding her intestines tore. I had a grand uncle with a case like that.

@@MikaelaKMajorHistory It's weird because it was her 4th baby or so. I would think you'd know how to push... Anyway, there was a crime investigation and at the end the brutal death was caused by birth.

I like these kinds of videos as I find them kind of fascinating as well. And also because I'm paranoid and want to know what I should be scared of/what to be wary of and now I have trust issues with strangers lol. This video just made me worry about drink cans and I'm gonna start checking drinks now and even tell my family to be careful just in case. The last case is awful and I feel bad for the family but, at least, I'm glad the baby is okay. It sucks the culprit for the last two cases weren't found though. Bad guys and people who do stuff like this are only cool in fiction because it's just a story. In real life they're scary and disturbing as well because the bad person and the victim could be anyone and I'm also confused as to why there're people who see the culprits as some kind of celebrity.

The tea one reminds me of another case in Japan. Someone went round vending machines and put cyanide in some of the drinks. A few people died and they never found out who it was

This type of videos are highly interesting. There a morbid and sad, but because we hardly hear of these case they really interesting to watch. You can't help but wonder how far people must sink to do the crimes they did. And I hope that shining light on the cases will lead to people picking up signs so it can never happen again. I definitely like to see more of these cases.
