As you may have noticed, I rarely play from paper music, ever since I started using tablet + pedal combination.
In this video, I'm going to show you how I use an iPad and AirTurn pedals to organize, read music, and turn pages without page turning accidents.
I'm going to make another video about how to import sheet music into iPad, so stay tuned!

I play piano for the church too. I can identify with you. Hymns and songs get reused by different chairmen for the services, so it would be good to get forscore to store them. Am also learning the violin and just about to start on the 8-page Vivaldi Summer. Looks like I will have to spend the money to get the app and pedal. Already have the 12.9 inch iPad.

this is awesome!!!! Thanks very much Akira for bringing this up...I am having a problem with this for the longest time....I can remember, I stumbled across your channel after watching the Hannon youtube of yours , but this is really the best, for me LOL. One more thing, can you please come up with a youtube how you learned to "sight-read" piano sheets? I've been playing for 10 years now and I felt like I am not going anywhere, unless I learned to sight read. I've been going over the Hannon through and through, but I don't know if going over it is the best way to learn to sight read sheet music, any help will do, thanks (from your fan here in the USofA).....
@AkiraIkegamiChannel
@AkiraIkegamiChannel 3 жыл бұрын
Sight-reading is a combination of working theory knowledge, forward eye-movement, and lots of faking (at least for me). Besides me not being a good sight-reader either, it's very complicated and I'm not sure if I can explain it. But I'll try to incorporate it in bits and pieces in the future videos.

Hi there, good video. And for the Android lovers, I use the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. Is a little bit less expensive, and you get a pensil with it. As app you need Mobilesheets pro. And then you can do the same things as on the iPad with For score. I use it for almost a year, and even with large partituurs it is verry usefull.

If I was to switch to Android, they are my current #1 candidate device/app. Maybe I will make the move when my iPad starts to die again or when I'm fed up with Apple (I already am, but still the burden of having to manually migrate all of my music collection is keeping me stuck here :) ).

I used to use this software on my Windows laptop before I switched to iPad, and it worked well. Some Chromebook can use Android apps through Google Play Store. In that case, your choice opens up to pretty much any Android apps. Just search for "sheet music viewer" and see if you find any app you like. Good luck, and please let me know if this works on Chromebook as well. I'm curious.

Love your video! We are trying to find the best size of ipad for reading music, as a lot of our musician friends have turned to ipad for scores. We love the ipad air and think it'll be more than capable of what we need to do, but as you said, Apple is evil! They make the 12.9" only for the most expensive ipad pro, and we poor musicians have to just pay for it! Lol...... Have you tried reading music on the new ipad air by any chance? If you have, what do you think? Thank you!

I haven't tried iPad air, but my wife uses 11.3-inch iPad pro. She is a violinist, so her music is not as dense as some of my music. With her more than perfect vision, she says she has no problem with it. Can't say the same for my bad eyes that have to sight-read piano music though. I can see the notes, but it's definitely not comfortable. However, I have a few friends who uses smaller iPads for their piano music, and they seem to be fine. If you already have an iPad air, why don't you try opening some of your music in PDF viewer and see how it looks?

@@TheMeeksDuo Cool videos! I don't see why you can't put two iPads next to each other and use it for duo performances and rehearsals. That way, more money to Apple :) There is a possibility that one person can turn both iPad's pages at the same time, but I've never looked into this, so don't take my word for it. If you don't have any iPad or tablet yet, you can print out some music to the size of the screen and see if that'll work for you. Nowadays, there are lots of Android apps that can do this, too. Once you get an iPad, you are basically stuck, so choose wisely!
@TheMeeksDuo

@@AkiraIkegamiChannel Thanks! And LOL... because getting one is already costing a lot of blood.......getting two ipads will cost us both arms and legs...XD (But will consider if it's necessary! :P) I didn't know you can print out the size first! The apple store said there's a two week trial period, so they encourage me to get them and return them if they don't work out...! Maybe I should trust their word...even though they're the ones sucking my blood....... :P
@AkiraIkegamiChannel
@AkiraIkegamiChannel 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheMeeksDuo They are probably not lying about trial period. But they are trying to lock in your money :) If you are buying an iPad of some sort anyway, it may be OK. But I don't trust myself in spending enough time to evaluate properly and returning to the store within 2 weeks if necessary, with my already hectic schedule. This is ancient, but if your printer, computer, or even photocopier can print out a page of sheet music at a different scale, you can put that on your music stand and simulate how big your sheet music will be displayed on your future tablet. With 12.9 inch iPad screen, notes are as big as regular sheet music. Sometimes bigger because you can crop it and get rid of margin. Once you have 12.9, you can't go back, although my wife's 11.3 inch iPad is surely more portable!

58 out of 128GB, including all of my music. If I deleted unnecessary video footages, that should open up many GB.

I think that laptop that turns backward would be much better that an Ipad. I have an Air2, scores are a bit small.

I used to use that setup. It worked well, too. But screen aspect ratio, quick start-up, simplicity make iPad more ideal for this purpose. But again, laptop totally worked for me, too.

Pedal works on pdf sheet music? Or it is necessary a special app?
@AkiraIkegamiChannel
@AkiraIkegamiChannel Жыл бұрын
The pedals basically works as a wireless keyboard, so they work with any apps that'll turn pages with left/right or up/down arrow keys. But sheet music works especially well with forScore.

Hi! Do you know if the page turner works on photo albums? Or it just works on music app?Thanks.

I think so. Technically, they are just Bluetooth keyboard with just 2 arrow keys. You can also configure what keys are assigned to each pedal. I've never tried with photo albums, but why not? Also, newer versions of these pedals come with a clicker in the middle with arrow buttons.

@@AkiraIkegamiChannel ahh OK thank you, the Steinway Spirio already has that system included 👍it's really annoying having to turn the pages 😑 but anyway thank you so very much for letting me know I can do that, I'm pretty good with wires, connections, plugs and the like, although I'm a girl, I like to put everything appart and then put everything back together. Ty for the explanation anyway 👍👍👍👍

I thought about it. But the amount you can save didn't really justify the risk I could be taking especially when I rely on it so much for performance and other uses. Maybe I'm just being too cautious, but you really don't know what was done to your device previously and how thoroughly it was tested. But I do consider refurbished products when it comes to non-mission critical stuff :)

I don't see any reason to use an iPad for this. As you mentioned yourself, you don't need the processing power that comes with the iPad Pro, you just need the larger screen. What specifically is so bad about Android and Windows tablets that justifies buying expensive Apple products?

When I started using digital sheet music, there weren't any app that was as good as forScore. Because I've accumulated so much sheet music with my own annotation, now I can't easily switch to Android. Nowadays, the situation may be different. There may be as good app on Android market. As soon as forScore releases a version for Android and easy migration becomes possible, and my current iPad breaks, I'll consider migrating. I used to use Windows laptop before iPad. Some notification and things Windows does in the background were annoying, but it was doable. I do have to admit the aspect ratio of iPad pro''s screen is really nice for this purpose.

@@AkiraIkegamiChannel Alright that makes sense. I've been searching around and it looks like MusicSheets, which is available on iOS, Android, and WIndows, while not quite as good as forScore, is still more than capable of doing what most people need it to do. And with many devices you can get accessories similar to the apple pencil and magic keyboard. Personally I would choose a Samsung or Android over an iPad or Surface Pro because it is both intuitive like an iPad (responsive screen/ui and serviceable camera, unlike Microsoft Surface) and has good file management like a Windows device. I'm currently looking at getting the Galaxy Tab S7 FE, which has the large screen I'm after, with pretty good but not over-the-top performance, all at a relatively modest price.
