In this video, I'm showing how I can scan and import your sheet music into iPad. This method can also be used for scanning other documents like receipts, contracts, etc, so you won't have to keep paper copies and stay organized.

This can be useful for anyone who deals with lots of sheet music. If you don't have lots of page turns, you don't need a pedal, but you can still put all music in one place and get rid of awkward/heavy binders.
@enriquellorens9043

I think there is another (easier) option you didn’t mention in your video. It is possible to scan the music directly from forScore, hitting the suitcase button in the top right corner, and after that selecting “scan”. This starts a process of scanning similar to the one you explained in first place, from the files app, but faster and with better quality. No need to adjust the corners of every page, the process is pretty automatic, and finally you don’t need to send your music to forScore, it’s already there. I hope this helps, congratulations on your channel, very informative and entertaining.

For Samsung, use MobileSheets Pro. Excellent program for managing your music. You can also use a foot pedal to flip through the music sheets with your foot while playing.

I did come across MobileSheets Pro while doing my recent research. I can totally see how it can work for Android devices. Things may have been different for me if this many music viewer apps were out when I bought my iPad. But now my biggest problem is migrating all the music with my markings to a new app. I wish they developed forescore for Android, but the forescore developers don't seem to be willing to do it...

Thanks for this very helpful video. Two questions: How do you scan pages of music that curve inward toward the spine of the book, especially in thicker books? Also, how do you scan pages that are larger than the surface of a standard scanner?
@AkiraIkegamiChannel
@AkiraIkegamiChannel 8 ай бұрын
Push them down as much as possible :) So far the thickest book I scanned was Mozart Sonata Book I Henle edition, but the thickness didn't really become a problem. You may get some black edges, but you can easily crop them out if that bothers you. There might be a phone/tablet scanner app that may be able to even correct the curve of the paper. For larger pages, you can also use scanner app. But usually sheet music has a lot of margin on the edges so I never had music that was too big for a standard scanner.

Hi Akira! I wonder if you could answer a question for me! Is the musical notation that I am learning (Europe, US etc) a worldwide standard? Would pianists in Africa and Asia for example use the same notation and layout? Thank you in advance x
@AkiraIkegamiChannel

For the most part, notation system is basically same everywhere in the world. There are some ethnic music that has unique notation systems, but as far as the mainstream music is concerned, notation system is universal.

I’m not sure I’d recommend sheet music on the ipad. I’ve lost out twice in the past having converted music to the ipad. They don’t last forever and sometimes glitch and you miss out. Apps are currently supported but for how long? I don’t think you can beat a physical copy.
@AkiraIkegamiChannel
@AkiraIkegamiChannel 2 жыл бұрын
I haven't experienced any glitch or loss of data. In fact, because all my music is backed up in cloud, so it was very easy to switch from one iPad to another. But you have a good point. Who knows how long forScore will be supported, and we are at the mercy of the developer and Apple. That's why if I could start over, I would have started with Android tablet and an app that uses common PDF format.

@@AkiraIkegamiChannel I had PDFs saved on iBooks. Took me ages (haha). My iPad died and it all wiped. I was gutted. It’s a great feature when it works, that’s true. It’s very handy. But personally I wouldn’t again and I’m working on building my phycial copies of music up since then. Still love your content and looking forward to more! Funnily enough, I’d considered a dedicated android tablet for this use. ❤️👍

Oh, no! I'm sorry to hear that. Technology can sometimes do that, unfortunately. Thankfully, all of my cloud storage has been doing and file transfer to new devices has been smooth for me. All of my music was scanned from the actual books, so I do own all of them in paper form, too. But it would be disastrous if I lost all of my markings I saved digitally.

Do you think some teachers would seriously frown upon ipad sheet music?
@AkiraIkegamiChannel
@AkiraIkegamiChannel 3 жыл бұрын
I can see that happening, if the teacher is not familiar with the technology, or if s/he is just old school and hesitant to accept changes. But page turning problem has gone way too long for pianists. It's about time we evolved from centuries old technology to better and efficient way of enjoying music making. By the way, I had a student who used the exact same setup. She showed up to her lessons with just her iPad, AirTurn, and Apple Pencil, and lessons went even smother than using paper books. If anyone can afford it, I prefer all of my advanced students using this setup.
