This song DESTROYS me. It came on the radio on the saddest day of my life, and I DISSOLVED into tears. I’ve always loved the Bee Gees’ original, but Al Green KILLED me with his version. None better. It will forever be linked to that day in my heart.

Reaction videos like this never fail to put a smile on my face. Growing up in my house, my musical education consisted of Aretha Franklin, Al Green, The Beegees, Frank Sinatra, Elvis, The Beatles, Ray Charles, Muddy Waters... etc, and seeing this generation discover these treasures is heartwarming. The great majority of todays music pales in comparison unfortunately, there is just no soul and no heart in it.

Wow. Didn't know Luther did a version. The first time I heard Brother Als version was in "Book of Eli" then a version with Jos Stone singing with him. Had to go back to Book of Eli to realize it was in there. Love his voice.

He was a great soul singer of the 70's. Love and Happiness, Lets Stay Together, For the Good Times, So Tired of Being Alone to name a few. I've seen him twice live and in person. He gave great performances in his prime. Recently not as good but when he was great there were few to compare.

@@Redeemed2000 The last time I saw him in concert I was so excited because it had been at least 20 year since I had seen him. He couldn't hit any of the notes that he used to and with every song he'd sign a few words then say everybody sing. He tried to get the crowd to sing every song.
@kathyp1563
@kathyp1563 3 жыл бұрын
@@Tessiefaye I've noted similar things to other "legacy performances", by other legends, which I've seen on TV or KZfaq. Age alters the voice and the energy. But, people get excited just to be in the room with a legend.

The Reverend al Green. What can you say? So glad you are rediscovering the great music from the 50's, 60's, and early 70's. There were so many fine, rich songs back then, that it just seemed normal, typical, and expected from everyone. What an amazing time of exploration and creativity. You would really enjoy "Rainy Night In Georgia" by Brooke Benton. It's so hard for me to listen to today's music, when the sound track of my life is songs like this. Thank you for listening with us.

I rembember purchasing this album when it first came out. I was familiar with the wonderful Bee Gees version. I recall thinking "OK, well, Al Green is certainly going to mess up this song". Man oh man...Al's version is soooo great! The Bee Gees version made you sad "for" this man who's heart was broken. Al's version make you sad, and cry "with" this man, who's heart is broken. Even the music beats with this man's broken heart. The violins, the drum, the cymbols, even that organ at 07:24 feels his pain! The dude's clothes were all wet from his crying (08:22). Al Green soooo owns this song now.

This was originally a Bee Gees song (written by them released as a single in 1971). I've noticed that all of your Bee Gees reactions have been to songs from the "disco" era or later. You might want to react to some of their pre-disco era hits (there are quite a few), this being one of them. Others include: Holiday; I've Gotta Get a Message To You; I Can't See Nobody; Words; I Started a Joke; Massachusetts; To Love Somebody; New York Mining Disaster 1941; Lonely Days; Run To Me.
