this is one of those rare instances where the Cover is as good as the original. This is a BeeGees song originally written for Otis Redding who died before he could record it. The BeeGees then recorded it themselves. But Al greens version is super unique and he really makes it his own.

OMGOSH - yes - I truly love Al's version of this song !! Of course i love the Bee Gee's too - they each are special in their own way and i can honestly say i can't pick a favorite - they are both my favorite. ; D Truly... Im so grateful i grew up in the 70's and had parents that had excellent taste in music. My life was very internal and soulful. I spent hours hanging wth myself in my room listening to music. Al Greene was most definitely in my Dad's massive record collection.

It would be hard to compare Al green's cover to the original written and recorded by The Bee Gees in 1971. Then covered by Al Green in 1972. They are two different Genres singing the same song. If you like blues and soul you will probably listen to Al Green more. If you like Pop you will lean more towards the original and the Bee Gees harmonies.

I'm surprised. I love Al Green and I love this song, and I don't like this rendition at all. It's more about showing off his vocal abilities (which he certainly does have, I would never deny that) than it is about the song and the meaning of the song. I don't hear Al being heartbroken here at all. All I hear is "listen to this! Aren't I great?". Yes, Al, you are great, and I'm deeply disappointed.
