We're all just so used to seeing a fat people all over the place that people who have a normal weight look dangerously malnourished.

It's a long tradition in American Black Music and began with jazz singers mostly using the tonality of flat trumpets. But there are people all over the world who incorporate unusual timbra into vocals. See Nina Hagen, Yma Sumac etc

No one would scat and sing like Al Jarreau. HE. WAS. JAZZ. PERIOD. A world treasure, this man. We lost one of the absolute greatest voices of all time. I adored his music. It got me through so much over the years. Thank you God for giving us Al Jarreau. My prayers to his family, friends & fans. Rest in peace, jazzmaster!

I met Al in Europe years ago while flying between London and Bilbao, Spain. I got bumped into 1st class, and there he was. He was sitting behind me. Needless to say, we made conversation while sipping some killer Spanish red wine. He was beginning his European tour, he said... Great guy, awesome conversation, full of insights about touring. He's has always been one of my favorite jazz musicians... R.I.P...
