This was all taken on my I phone as my batteries died!!
After aout an hours drive from Karbala on some really rough roads! Finally made it to this magnificent fortress! I had a tour company take me here as i wouldnt have been able to make it on my own, but its size was mind blowing!
the outer walls are 10.5m high and 4.5m thick...the outer walls contain a passage that allowed archers to move around inside the walls and fire at the enemy forces!
Built in 775 AD....in a defensive style and represents Abbasid Architecture.
maybe one of the best places ive visited like this....although it could use a little work on it, but the potential for tourism is huge with places like this!! Definitely worth a vist .. I didn’t get to see the church 5km away as It was getting dark .. but would love to go back now that I know more about Its history! Iraq has soooo much to offer for tourists !!!

Thanks Emma for going to my country Iraq and discover and show it to the rest of the world . I am really upset and sad we have a great history but our governments and the people who are in power and never paid attention and did not do much about it. . Our Iraq is beautiful and full of knowledge ,history, art . I enjoyed it a lot but get upset too The bath is like sauna , we had those kind of bath and public bath similar . Every house used to have a bath like sauna and when people were coming out from the bath they had to rest a lot and drink lots of cold drink ـ

Ι always have decent meals, but if l will drink cappuccino with cream and eat Spanakopita every day 😅 and eat dinner again the night if l have apettite l will need diet for sure. Lol. ☺️So keep working🏃⛹️‍♂️🏋️🤸‍♂️

There is a church near it which is the oldest church in the world and it is called Caesar's Church is an ancient church located 70 km away in the heart of the Western Badia in the Karbala Governorate It is 5 km away from Al-Ukhaydir fortress. Its construction dates back to the fifth century AD. It is located in the desert of Ain Tamr district and is characterized by the presence of Aramaic inscriptions, in addition to the fact that the altar is directed towards Jerusalem. Research, antiquities and historical sources indicate that this church was built by the Christian revolutionaries of the Nestorian sect against the Byzantine Church, who found their safety and freedom of rituals and worship under the state of the Lakhmids of the Lakhmids (268-633 AD), which was subject to the Sassanid state and was professed by Christianity. Nestorianism flourished in that era, and this sect was welcomed by the Sassanid family, because the Sassanids were waging wars with the Romans who embraced Orthodoxy.

I am from Iraq. Did you know that this castle represents a puzzle because the style of its construction is not Arabic, it is closer to Byzantine, and the Romans never entered this land. It was owned by the Persians or the Arabs allied with them, but your words are really convincing and correct. There is a church that is the oldest church in history, according to what people here say. Is it possible that? You include the sources of your words because most people here believe that it was built during the Islamic era ‏‪3:57‬‏

Another great VLOG, Emma. What an amazing discovery of this fortress, well done. I was not even aware this ancient landmark even existed in Karbala Governorate. I agree with you, wholeheartedly, on the need to invest in facilities around this castle, basic infrastructure and facilities to make it easier for visitors and even locals to come.

I have been out there. It's in Karbala Province, near Ayn al-Tamr. It looks like it was made last week. Amazingly preserved. Karabal Porvince has amazing antiquities. Very close by is Al-Aqiser ruins, an archeological site with what has been described as the Oldest eastern Christian Church

Welcome to the city of Emma, there are still some archaeological sites and caves dating back thousands of years in Karbala, and some of them have not been discovered, named or added to historical monuments, unfortunately.

This place is called Al-Ukhaydir fortress, for the rest of the trade caravans coming from the Hejaz, more than 500 years ago

Babylon is by far more important than this fortress which built 1500yrs ago while Babylon is a civilization and empire established more than 4000yrs ago and was ruling from the gulf to the mediterranean sea and part of egypt. I know you mean the intact of original but for example the lion, the ishtar gate, the Hammurabi code (3m height), the engraved walls etc... still original🌹🌹🌹❤❤❤
