Classically, genies would always twist around their masters' wishes and grant them in unexpected, though technically within the terms of the wish, ways. So Aladdin's father might not really have been the king of thieves, that might have been Genie's way of granting that wish.

I think that the whole missed second wish idea speaks to Aladdin's character. He's just not the type of person that's looking to game the system like a lot of people would. He never expected to have the genie in the first place. The fact that the genie is helping him is more than he could have ever wished for. Aladdin only really wants one thing, and that is Jasmine. He’s just that type of character. Also, the Genie is a genie. Most genies are typically looking for every loophole so that they can avoid granting the intended interpretation of a wish. It’s just in their nature. And as stated, this genie is especially motivated to speed through the wishes because of Aladdin’s promise.

Actually, Genie owes Aladdin all of his wishes. When Aladdin got the lamp back from Jaffar, that made him the NEW master so shouldn't he have a new set of wishes?

Wish 1: djinn (genie) to understand and interpret all my wishes exactly as I mean them(djinn in stories are notorious for this) 2: for my body, mind and soul able to absorb and withstand infinite amounts of power without consequences 3: to have all the powers of a djinn/genie without being one and having the restrictions of granting wishes to others and living in a lamp.

Funny thing is Genie would have probably been okay with saving Aladdin besides the fact that Aladdin was his master at the time because Aladdin had actually given Genie an armor piercing question 'What would you wish for?', and since no one has ever asked him that question he was taken aback by it and admitted that he'd like to be free. Genies always say you can't wish for more wishes, but they don't say you can't wish for more genies...

For my three wishes, I would first wish for something normal (or I would use it as a 'normal' wish) like: 'I wish for a computer.' For my second wish, I'd wish for another magic genie lamp, and finally, for my third wish, I'd wish to set the genie from the first lamp free. Then, I'd repeat the process for the next genie. It's basically a loophole around the whole, 'you can't wish for more wishes' thing.

They fixed this problem in the live action by making Aladdin sign a contract counting the second “wish” while he is knocked out.

The second wish was actually an agreement which Aladdin signs in the live action movie. This kind of makes more sense than the animated one.

Wish #1: I wish away all of my physical disabilities, I could do anything and all things humanly possible, including voice acting and hand-drawn animation. Wish #2: Unlimited money in the form of a self-refilling wallet that can only works for me (take out a 20 and another 20 takes its' place in the wallet) and I can never lose it, if I miss it, it will just appear in my hand just like Sora's Keyblade. Having my physical disabilities removed and never having to worry about money ever again, I'd use the thrid wish on the Genie's freedom. Unless it's the Jafar Genie, in that case, my last wish would be peace on earth. With peace being on earth, there'd be no room for evil, so Jafar as an opposite of peace, would either have to turn good or remove himself from the earth completely.

To those saying that Aladdin is a prince because he's the son of "The King of Thieves", that's like saying Elvis was actually royalty because he was "The King of Rock and Roll".

Also in the real actors version, the genie gave Aladdin 4 wishes, one to escape a cave, one to turn Aladdin into a prince, one to save Aladdin's live, and another to free the genie

I will say this, after Aladdin tricked Genie into getting them out of the Cave of Wonders, Genie conceded to Aladdin's not officially wishing for it and told him "no more freebies". That tells me it's a possibility that, from that point on, Genie may not have been able to act on his own without it counting as a wish.

Djinn were trickerster spirits while being wish grangers. We have the idiom “be careful for what you wish for, you just may get it”. Djinn would grant a wish but it wouldn’t be the exact wish you wanted. Furthermore they would find ways to grant the wishes or grant a wish you would randomly say. This would complete the contract and the Djinns servitude to the wisher.

The Genie did sort of dupe Aladdin out of a wish, but that doesn't mean he owes Aladdin one afterwards. What this means is that Aladdin used his SECOND wish to free the Genie instead of the third, and freeing the Genie meant that the Genie was no longer bound to the lamp or required to grant wishes for anyone.

I would wish for the ability to draw anything I thought of perfectly, the ability to shapeshift, and a small loan of a million dollars.

One could argue that the Genie knew the true intent of the wish: to win Jasmine's heart. And if you look at it that way, he granted the wish, albeit in a complicated way. lol

Aladdin only had one wish. Free the Genie As seen in Return of Jafar he can just make things appear if he wanted too and rescue Aladdin inside the cave by his own accord meaning the Genie in the theory is indeed a manipulator

Would this explain why the Genie came back later? Because if he owes Aladdin a wish that, combined with the fact that Aladdin was the one person he would consider a friend after keeping his word and freeing him, would explain why the Genie came back and became Aladdins traveling companion.

My question on this is why the Genie doesn't grant Aladdin an extra wish after he's set free. I mean, he's free right? He can do whatever he wants? He has ultimate cosmic power? I would think that he would be grateful to Aladdin, a genuinely good person who granted him freedom. So why did he just fly off? Kind of a jerk move, if you ask me.

I'm torn on that question. On first impulse, I'd be tempted to go with: 1) Wish for immortality, with a preset contingency so that, should immortality ever become an albatross, I could say a certain phrase to shed my immortality and die instantly and permanently. 2) Wish for everlasting youth, to avoid the dreaded "immortality without everlasting youth" fate which befell Tithonus in Greek legend. 3) Wish for command over the arts of wizardry. Perhaps eventually, I could learn a spell through which I could free the genie _without_ the need for wishes, while also being able to shape my own destiny and the world around me forevermore. But there's always the problem with outliving everyone I know and seeing everything that I once loved eventually crumble to dust, leaving me a cold and distant creature who exists to chronicle the events of the passing world, and little more than that. Perhaps I could wish for something else instead. 1) Wish for access to all the secrets of the universe, including its spiritual and unseen aspects (if such exist). Religion is ultimately nothing more than humanity playing guessing games with the universe, and that's not good enough for me. The genie's existence alone suggests that the universe has a supernatural element, so let's explore that further. Did someone create the universe, or did it emerge from nothingness on its own? Who created us? Do gods exist? Who are they? And just because these gods created us is no indication that they also saw fit to create an Underworld for us, so is there an afterlife? 2a) If there is no Underworld and no afterlife, then wish for them to be retroactively created at the dawn of humanity, and to my specifications...perhaps with a neutral region of the Underworld where the dead may hang around until the God of the Dead gets around to taking measure of their worths, then sends them off to whichever Elysium or Tartarus befits them best. If it turns out that the human soul does not exist, then include the creation of the human soul as part of the bargain; after all, the afterlife and the human soul are one in the same; without one, the other becomes pointless. 2b) If there is an Underworld but no God of the Dead, then wish that I should take that mantle and become the God of the Dead after my own natural life draws to a close. 2c) If there is an Underworld _and_ a God of the Dead, and if the God of the Dead is benevolent (or neutral and impartial at worst), then all is well. Wish to become the God of the Sun instead. 2d) If there is an Underworld and a God of the Dead, but the God of the Dead is cruel and malevolent, then wish for that god to be immediately stripped of his power and cast down. 3a) With the Underworld now waiting for a liege at the dawn of humanity, wish that, upon my own death, I shall be transported to that distant past and become the God of the Dead, vested with the power to shape the Underworld, alter the conditions of the Afterlife and govern the souls of the dead as I see fit. Consider implementing the policy of reincarnation if it's not already in play; souls are precious and should be recycled from time to time, and would anyone truly want to linger as a ghost in the Underworld forever? (And, taking a cue from Neil Gaiman's Death, walk the earth as a mortal for one day each century, just to remind myself of what I'm governing and what responsibilities I have to humanity, the better to prevent me from ever becoming jaded, detached or even despotic.) 3b) With an afterlife for everyone and a god to rule it, I should have all that I need to perpetuate my own existence and everyone else's existence as well. Wish for the genie to be free from captivity in the lamp, but with the condition that he may walk the earth freely yet should use his power of wish-granting to reward whatever particularly virtuous or worthy people he should meet in his travels...or, should he meet any people who are utterly wicked and detestable, give him leave to grant _their_ wishes as well... _punitive_ wishes, twisted to suit the wording but not the spirit of each wish, that they may punish themselves with their own greed, arrogance or selfishness. Encourage the genie to be as creative as he wants with granting these wishes, but remind him to forever avoid becoming Nietzsche's monster in the doing. 3c) As the God of the Sun, ensure that the sun keeps burning forever, and continue keeping the sun's gravity constant so that the planetary orbits shall never decay and that the planets shall neither fall into the sun nor hurl out into the void of deep space. Cut down on the solar flares; nobody likes those. Occasionally return to Earth in a descending pillar of light, just to remind people that I exist, dispense a few words of wisdom with them, sire a demigod here and there, and remark that a few more temples built in my name and to my glory would be nice. Look into the possibility of expanding Earth's size, creating more planets to share Earth's orbit (if a Sun God has any dominion over that) and/or increasing or decreasing gravity in one direction in order to bring a few of the other planets into a more life-sustaining orbital range, because eventually all the other suns in the universe will die (unless they have their own Sun Gods tending them), and Earth could become a bit crowded after every spacefaring extraterrestrial race in the universe starts migrating to the one lifegiving sun that's still burning in the black void. They _are_ out there, right? 3d) With the old God of the Dead cast down, wish to take his place as the new God of the Dead. Give the people of the Underworld hope in their new benevolent ruler, allow select individuals to return to the living world as ghosts and assure their surviving families that everything's going to be all right now, and remind everyone to remain forever vigilant, lest the old god should somehow return. Other than that, everything laid out in Wish 3a applies. Whew. That was a bit complicated, wasn't it?

Jafar's wishes also have a problem. 1: Become Sultan. Wish granted. 2: Become the world's most powerful sorceror. Wish Granted. 3: Make Jasmine fall in love with him. Genie refuses but Jasmine then pretends it worked, so for all we know Jafar thinks he made his final wish. 4: Become a genie. This wish is also his final wish, and since wish 3 wasn't really granted it works out. But how did Jafar know?

The one thing that has always been in my mind regarding the completion of the wishes is that all actions have some sort of consequence. Say, if I wished to be a Millionaire, would it work instantly or would the wish open the opportunities for that to happen eventually? All of these resources need to come from somewhere and exhausting them could have it's eventual effects that would affect us in return.

As far as the second wish goes, that is definitely in the same loophole as the Cave of Wonders escape. But after Genie is set free, he *does* stick around and continuously grant more wishes for the two, basically indefinitely. In the remake (SPOILERS-ISH) Genie actually uses a paper contract, backdated by about a day, and has Aladdin sign with an X (which was pretty common back when reading and writing were less common) to establish the 2nd wish as being saved from mortal danger - and after Aladdin wakes up, he agrees that it was fair, and is content with that use of his wish. Interestingly, after the story is complete in the remake, Genie vanishes to the oceans with his lover, to live out their own happily ever after on the boat of their dreams. I propose this: in the original, Genie was aware that he was gypping Aladdin out of a wish, and after being freed, that final wish continued to hover over his head - an uncompleted contract, of sorts. Unfortunately for him, since he had been freed, the contract was terminated prematurely. You can't go back and mess with contracts that are finished, so the final wish is forever unfulfilled. Genie owes Aladdin, and has to spend the rest of however long (possibly eternity, possibly just as long as Aladdin lives, possibly as long as the bloodline lasts) granting any wish he thinks might fulfill the requirements of the man (and his family, as evidenced by how he dotes on Jasmine). In the remake, the second wish is validated, and so Genie is free to go his own way.

Genie would actually owe him two wishes. Even if we do count the rescue "wish", once Jafar got the lamp, Aladdin's original pact is broken. Thus, when he regains control of the lamp, he should get another three wishes, but only gets the one, however, once Aladdin sets Genie free, he no longer owes him any wishes
