Alan Hale Jr. was the first celebrity I ever met back in 1988 in Houston. His hands just swallowed my hands when I shook his. He was full of love and it showed. I hope to see him in Heaven one day. RIP sir.

It really is true....not one negative word has ever been said about the man. I remember the day he passed away, I was working at a radio station when the news came over the wire. The entire staff was so sad that I don't recall anyone talking to each other the rest of the afternoon. It was a large piece of our childhood that left us that day.

I was a kid watching his various roles as an actor, especially Gilligan's Island in the 1960's. I was a teenager when my dad, brother, and I went to see him at the Lobster Barrel in the early 1970's. I was very much impressed at how friendly and lovable he was to us as his restaurant guests. Rest in peace wonderful Alan Hale Jr. You were truly a beautiful human being.

Alan Hale Jr. looked a lot like his father, Alan Hale Sr.(also a great actor). In fact, I once saw my parents watching a black and white movie called, "Action in the North Atlantic," and I thought I saw Alan Hale Jr. in it because the guy looked a lot like the Skipper, he was even wearing a hat just like the Skipper's. I asked my parents, "Isn't that the guy who played Skipper on Gilligan's Island?" and my mom said, "No. That's actually his father." I was amazed. The resemblance was remarkable!

Growing up, my two brothers and I used to watch reruns of Gilligan's Island all the time. We were each given autograph books, and one day we were surprised when our dad came home and gave each of us our autograph books back with autographs from Alan Hale, who was visiting our city. Sadly, those autograph books are long lost, but we were excited to get them at the time.

He never refused to give an autograph to a fan always wore a smile along with his Skipper hat in public He was a very grateful man and was always proud to answer to the name skipper. My favorite character on Gilligan's Island. He is sorely missed. R.I.P. Skipper and Trinket. BTW...I love Alan, but he wasn't the only actor to star in 2 series at the same time. A great video. I watched Gilligan's Island as a child when it was first broadcast. For a short while it was on against the Sally Fields show "Gidget", which my older sister wanted to watch. Our mother made us alternate weeks as a compromise. But "Gidget" soon sank & we watched G.I. every week. And I've been watching it ever since. The show has never been off the air! God bless Alan Hale & the other castaways!

I hope you don't mind a question! Did he ever explode on set? It always seemed he was about to get angry at Gilligan, even when something bad wasn't going on during the scene. Like, he would be very polite, but just on the verge of about to burst open with anger. Was that just his character or what? I always wondered! Grew up watching Gilligan's island, age 8+ I think!

I vaguely remember Casey Jones but now I have youtube to watch the TV show and didn't know that Alan Hale was Casey and his Son became the Skipper. i also didn't know that Mickey Dolenz went by Mickey Braddock during his TV show as Circus Boy in 1856 because his Father was George Michael Dolenz and famous for his 1956 TV show '"Count of monte cristo " and didn't want to use the same name as the jr. . George Dolenz has a stoke of luck when he was asked to come to a dinner from an extra seat at a Club that his friend was to fill . He aspired to be an Actor in America and left Florida for LA. , so what a shock to find out that the man beside him at the Dinner table that he was speaking has introduced him self as Howard Hughes . George Dolenz was cursed though because Hughes saw him as a European type Restaurant and Night Club owner/manager. He got away from the RKO Studio and did TV while his Son George jr got his start in 1956 and would be one of a Monkee's 10 years later. Alan hale was in a Navy movie and I though it was the Skipper but the B&W " Action in the North Atlantic " was 1943. His father was close to his Sons looks at the same ages once they both were around 30 and over.

I always thought, when he wasn't donning a mustache, Alan Sr. and his son looked almost identical. In fact, there is a James Cagney movie called The Fighting 69th. It's a WWI movie and the whole 69th. battalion is of Irish-American descent. In one scene, Alan Hale Sr. lets his accent slip a little. It goes something to the fact that James Cagney's character says something highly disrespectful about his sergeant (Hale). One of the other characters says "Don't worry, he's his own worse enemy." Referring to Cagney's character. Hale's line is "Not while I'm alive he ain't!" and he sounds just like his son that brief moment.

Good video. I'm a big Gilligan's Island fan. Alan brought a very lovable character to life. Gilligan would do something silly then the skipper would look at the camera and shake his head. It still makes me laugh. He certainly knew how to do comedy. Gilligan was funny because the skipper was funny. Together they could bounce off of the other characters on the island. Great chemistry. Whenever I see him in a movie I'll say "Look, there's the skipper." There is something very magical about Gilligan's Island and he'll always be the skipper to me.

This and Star Trek were my two favorite childhood television shows. One thing though, I never understood why they wanted to leave the Island. To me they lived in paradise.

I live on the gulf coast of Florida. We just got hit by a hurricane. so I walked down to the causeway and walked along the debris line where the high tide washed all manner of debris. Within an hour I found enough fishing tackle washed up that I put it all together and walked out to where the tide had surged and threw out a line. A few minutes later I had dinner. I gotta believe the professor, an infinitely smarter guy than myself, couldn't figure out how to accomplish as much.

@Tye Bear The causeway to Clearwater Beach. I do one day want to go down Sanibel way. I hear the beach combing there is unparalleled.

It would have been paradise if only they had had one more beautiful woman. 3 girl for 4 guys, not good.

In the early 1970's, when I was very young lol, my cousin took me to eat at Alan Hale Jr.'s restaurant, The Lobster Barrel. While dining there Alan Hale Jr would walk up to each table to greet you with a smile and ask if your meal was to your liking. I was very surprise to see him there, but was later told he did that very often. I remember how he seemed to be so genuine, humble and down to earth. I was surprised by this considering how famous he was. By the way, the food was delicious. I'm sure I had lobster bisque!

Continue to rest in peace Mr. Hale...our beloved "Skipper". Great presentation of this video, excellent work! Good tribute, the music went well with it. Nice to see all his accomplishments, the music added more sadness to it, but in a good way. 😢 Thanks for sharing friend. 👍👍

You know, John Wayne once said 'it's not how you're buried, but how they remember you, that counts', and from all that we've heard about this man - Alan Hale Jr, is what a gentle soul he was, and a credit to the human race, for how he conducted himself through his whole life - with dignity, honor and a down to earth nature, that is second to none. It makes us proud, to have known him through the wonderful entertainment he gave us. RIP beloved Skipper, we will always remember you!
