I have never considered making a classification of that brilliant Woolfson-Parsons stage. Those 10 albums are of a similar level. The first as a concept album Tales of Mystery and Imagination is a true masterpiece.

There are two others Try Anything Once and On Air from the late 90's and 2000's. Again some great instrumentals on these. I do listen to Try Anything Once quite a bit.

Nice ranking. You definitely have more love for Stereotomy than I do. For me it would be keeping Vulture Culture company at the bottom. Will give it another listen though, just to see if I've missed something. Stay safe.

I was checking out Alan Parsons videos and I ran into this channel. I was quite surprised that you never even mentioned my favorite, Try Anything Once. Agreed that all their music and albums are excellent. But I really believe Try Anything Once hit on all levels. And may be their deepest of all. It's about what they are talking about and the music and lyrics they put with it. It's actually more of a message to everyone...like Dark Side of the Moon...if you get it! Awesome and extremely moving!

@@trannongoble7722 Thanks for your reply. I wasn't criticizing you. Loved your breakdown of the album's. And I don't have them all....so you have egged me on to UPDATE my collection. I'm old school.I'm in my mid 60's and love Floyd, Alan Parsons, Yes, Genesis, Emerson Lake and Palmer, etc...These groups all went deeper with their messages...and made you feel the meaning with their music. More of an experience than just listening to songs. And...the meaning that they are speaking is truth and applies to every single person. Life, death, the journey and and the fight to stay on the path while our subconscious attempts to sabotage us the whole way. The challenge or the enemy was never something outside of us, it's always been within...just as all the answers to life are...within. And a lot of this music is really helping to...point the way! Have a great day!

Hello. The name of the album is GAUDI (gow-dee). Gaudi was a Spanish architect, famous for the amazing La Sagrada Familia, which is also the opening song on the album.

Wonderfully enthusiastic review Trannon. My two favourite albums are Turn Of A Friendly Card and Eye In The Sky with Ammonia Avenue coming in close behind. I love Day After Day from I Robot. The man has done so many great songs and has just deservedly received the O.B.E. I actually got into APP via Time in about 1981 which I kept hearing on the radio in Bermuda over and over, (I'm a Brit BTW) I'm probably telling my Grannie how to suck eggs here, but I have an instrumental album by the Andrew Powell Orchestra which is as rare as hen's teeth and has a great version of Time on it. I love the contributions by Christopher Rainbow and the sadly missed Eric Woolfson. (He has a sort of solo album too which is very nice) Thanks again for you post. I've just subscribed to your channel.

I just listened (tonight) to most of their songs (for the very first time haha) on KZfaq from their debut album to ''Eye in the sky'' and it sounded good enough to me !!! At the moment, ''I robot'' is my favorite (which seems to be a very popular choice for no.1) !!! ''Eye in the sky'' might be my 2nd favorite: love the title track (just like your accoustic cover) !!! I remember when that song (Eye in the sky) came out because it was a big hit !!! I heard it so many times on the radio but I never got tired of it !!! Such a beautiful song !!! I'll give a listen to the rest of their discography but at the moment these are my 2 favorite APP albums !!! Glad you're back Trannon and glad too for your new home and wedding !!! Congratulations !!! Cheers !!!

Hi Trannon, oh yes i enjoyed your ranking... i can only agree; very difficult to rank these almost all fantastic albums. As your choice is still "Vulture Culture" my least favorite album. In my opion the only album, where the production doesn't hold the standard of all other albums. Less orchestration; less awesome guitar playing and solos by the great Ian Bairnson and too much cheesy keyboards/synthesizers. A surprise for me is your high rank of "Stereotomy"... but, yes that album was such a highlight after the "disappointing" "Vulture Culture"; the two instrumentals are awesome. (Maybe interesting, here in germany in 1988 a compilation titled "Instrumental Works" was released, cool collection") "Robot" or "Tales" number one? Sure...one of these has to be; they could switch in my ranking; both are so fantastic and timeless. I recommend to you two albums around the Project. Maybe you know the "Freudiana" album from 1990 planned as the eleventh APP album, some tracks in a more musical-style but other could be APP classics. The other one is the "Keats" album from 1984... Pete Bardens from Camel with Ian Bairnson, Colin Blunstone, David Paton and Stuart Elliott; produced by Alan Parsons. No surprise that the album sounds similar to APP. For me this one is the better "Vulture Culture"... APP-Fans, who like "Ammonia Avenue" should listen to it. Hope to see you soon; greetings from germany... bye and take care.

Nice to see Stereotomy get some love. When that album was released it was flying in the face of the cultural headwinds and so it got discounted at the time, but it was probably the most adventurous and progressive thing they did since I Robot. Alright... Vulture Culture.... one thing to bear in mind VC was originally conceived as disc two of a double LP Ammonia Avenue, so the themes of communication breakdown and alienation are deepened ("Let's Talk About Me", "Somebody Out There"). Production wise it is the only APP album NOT to use an orchestra to flesh out the sound. So everything is done in the studio with the band. To me it is the Pet Sounds of the APP catalog. Ian Bairnson's soaring guitar solo outro on "The Same Old Sun" is easily one of the most stirring things Alan ever recorded. Simply amazing.
