Alan Wake II is a survival horror game developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by Epic Games Publishing. A sequel to Alan Wake, the story follows best-selling thriller novelist Alan Wake, who has been trapped in an alternate dimension for 13 years, as he attempts to escape by writing a horror story involving an FBI agent named Saga Anderson. The game is available for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on October 27, 2023.
Alan Wake went missing in 2010. He was a bestselling writer based in New York City. On a vacation in the Pacific Northwest with his wife, Alice Wake, he came face to face with a force of supernatural darkness. It brought Wake’s writing, a horror story, to life. He fought this dark presence and managed to banish it back to where it came from, a nightmarish dark place hidden under a caldera lake outside the small town of Bright Falls. Wake wrote an ending to his horror story and with that freed his wife from the darkness under the lake but became trapped there himself.
Alan Wake is not dead, although he has wished he was many times. For 13 years he’s been a prisoner in the Dark Place, where his nightmares, his fears, and his stories manifest as reality around him. For 13 years, he has been fighting to stay sane and write a story that would change reality around him in order for him to escape. So far, he has failed.
The majestic landscapes stretch across Washington State in the United States Pacific Northwest. Nature is beautiful and rich here, but there is something hauntingly mysterious and primordial about the dark woods, forested valleys, and foggy mountains.
There are three distinct locations to explore in the Pacific Northwest region.
The quirky and idyllic town of Bright Falls is also the home of the annual Deerfest. Nearby is the run-down city of Watery, founded by Finnish immigrants around the logging and fishing industry. Cauldron Lake, a caldera lake outside Bright Falls, is a striking landmark. It used to be a popular hiking destination, but since it was fenced off by an obscure government agency years ago, it has gained a reputation as a place to avoid.

Both "endings", for Alan and for Saga, were so good. Alan's actually felt hopeful like ascension finally felt possible for him and Saga's felt cold & ominous. I was left floored and staring at the screen with tears in my eyes because I knew i just experienced one of the best games ever. and those credits songs were incredible

@@mikeestvanikIt's theorized that's why Odin lost his eye due to Mr. Door. Considering Door is Saga's lost father. And one of the dlcs is Night Springs. Mr door had said previously that he was involved in Night Springs so we won't see the last of him. He's like the pathway to other places

There is a door on the 3rd level of Valhalla's Nursing Home down the hall from Cynthia's room and right next to Ahti's room that has a Spiral. I saw quite a few spirals here and there. A loop that goes on and on, neverending, spiraling into the abyss. The Spiral is a truly terrifying AWE.

One thing I saw is that once you finish the game and know the context of alan being shot, you realize that the end and the beginning of the game loop with each other, kinda like that song from Tyler the Creator in his Igor album. It was an interesting observation that I thought it was clever.

Dark place. Alan is essentially stuck there, split into multiple Alan's due to him changing and re-writting his story so many times, as we see when he shoots himself prior to being taken over by the dark entity. He's stuck in a loop in his own story, possibly/purposely done by the dark entity to make sure it can feed off of Alan and continue to try and escape to spread itself in the real world, or it was done by Alan as a protective measure or accidental insanity, its unclear atm but what is clear now is that through every loop he's getting closer and closer to the center or the end, because like he states at the end " the loop isn't a loop..it's a spiral".

A spiral has an end, while a loop doesn't. He is spiraling, but he's reaching the end. He'll escape when he reaches the end

yaaap it will loop again (or spiral again), casey and saga will come again into cauldron lake because the case of cult of the tree. The evidence can be found when saga found nightingale heart in shop, she said it was like deja vu. So it will loop (spiral) until alan wake achive his ascension. So basically, alan wake I, is the departure, alan wake II is the initiation, alan wake III (maybe) is the real return.

No. Alan is trapped in a loop of getting out, thinking "holy shit it's my fault", and hopping back in. And a loop of deciding that the best way to solve the issue is shooting himself in the head. And a loop of getting Alice out, only for Alice to go back to get Alan out, only for Alan to probably hop back in to get Alice out... All the "real world" stuff is still "real world" stuff, not sure why you'd think it's ALL the Dark Place.

A loop doesn't have an end, but a spiral does. Alan is in a spiral, one he will eventually reach the end of.

From my understanding, at the end Alan realizes that basically the entire game has been replayed multiple times only he is making progress, not just a loop like he thought throughout the game. Which why at the end he says it’s not a loop, it’s a spiral. Meaning it has an end. And the entire game was a “step” up the spiral.

@@benserkowski4663 think to the spiral as the typical line version of one. The line starts wide and then moves in on itself and gets smaller until the pen is off the paper. It has a beginning and end unlike a loop which would just connect at the beginning and end.

I played the whole game and uninstalled it! they dragged the ending, “final chapter”, its too long, boring and disappointing! the ending seems rushed out compared to the rest of the game, imo. Way too many in-game bugs once you are reaching the end as well.

NG+ is confirmed with 2 additional expansions. NG+ got leaked and it gives an entirely different ending than this one and it’s considered the definitive ending I believe
