The ending of this one is SO tragic. Kim's sister dies, all the killers either befriend her or are awful to her, her brother tries to exact pretty understandable revenge (minus Slick) and Kim ends up killing her own brother to save the guy who killed her sister. People are always saying they want a slasher sequel where the final girl from the first snaps and becomes the killer and this honestly would have been the perfect one to do it, she would have been fully justified.

Thank you for being an ally during our strike, Alanda! Also if you're looking for another independent horror film, especially one starring Jamie Lee Curtis; I'd recommend you start with The Fog (1980). Jamie made a couple of indi-slashers from this era, but I'd recommend you start with The Fog. Also, it's a heavily atmospheric ghost story, directed by John Carpenter himself.

Completely agree w the intro, these writers are the reason why the shows and movies do so well, the least that can be given back to them is being able to eat and have healthcare. Awww… so happy you watched this! It’s been a lifelong favorite of mine. I have so many fond memories watching this movie through the years! Jamie Lee cemented her scream queen title with this, Terror Train and The Fog back to back to back. I am with you- the story is simple but I think the atmosphere really sucks you in. It feels very slide of life at times and grounded in a way some slashers from the era weren’t. We find the characters sympathetic; the victims and the killer (once the motive is revealed especially!). And the SOUNDTRACK is disco perfection. All of the songs are “originals” but most are soundalikes to huge hits from the time. The Blu-ray has a really fantastic featurette about the making of the film. I hope you watch some more of the lesser known slashers like this- even tho this one has 3 “sequels” and a remake, all of which are in name only. Love it! ❤

This is, by far, one of the best 80s slashers. It won't win any Oscars, but I've always believed it was well-made, it's atmospheric, and the acting is a cut above a LOT of other slashers of the day. The fact that Kim killed her brother just means she and her family are going to need a lot of therapy in the future. There's another cut of this movie on KZfaq that excludes that Leonard Murch/Schizo killer guy and focuses more on the family and their trauma since Robin's death. It also points to the dad as the killer in a few scenes. I like the other cut, but either way, I love this movie, and I'm glad you love it, too.

@@kellifranklin9872 yes!! Im constantly asking reactors to watch it lol but my comment rarely ever gets any engagement, so naturally, I feel like the reactors don’t put it far up on their lists bcuz they might think a lot of people might not be interested. Hopefully since this comment has gotten a few interactions, Alanda will move it up her list a bit 😊😊😊😊

@@Shizalumni YES! It’s actually my favorite movie. And not even limited to favorite horror movie, it’s just my favorite in general. I can’t explain it. I know there are objectively far better movies for a plethora of reasons lmao but I can’t help it…I’m absolutely obsessed with Night of the Demons. The practical SFX work is some of the best I’ve seen in any 80’s horror movies, and even some 90’s lol. The WILD ass dialogue & delivery of it sends the camp into full force. It’s the movie that made me want to be an actor & even writer & director too

Cookie's Fortune is my indie suggestion. Great story, glorious cast, and Patricia Neal's voice is like butter.

Fun footnote about PROM NIGHT is that after it's theatrical release, NBC premiered it in prime time as their Sunday Night Movie in February 1981, before it had even gotten a cable run. It may have been the first "slasher" movie to air on free TV; HALLOWEEN didn't air on TV until October 1981, also on NBC. Very few of these movies ever got run on network TV, they were obviously considered too violent. Most of the time they went directly into syndication on individual TV stations, if at all.

Eddie Benton actually played in Halloween 2. She played nurse Karen's friend that needed a ride home. Karen didn't have time to drop her off. Her friend told karen, you got to, because Karen promised to give her a ride home.

Looove that you're starting to watch some B-slashers from the 80s, Alanda! I highly recommend two that I think you would like: THE SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE (1982) - a cult classic considered to be a feminist slasher, written and directed by women - and also STAGEFRIGHT/DELIRIA (1987), which is a very stylish and creepy forgotten gem with influences of giallo and an unforgettable killer outfit.

I had no idea how much the strike actually affected other forms of media like influencers( I’m also on board with the actor’s and writers strikes). Idk if this is in your wheelhouse but there’s an animated horror drama called Perfect Blue🐟

Yes! Union strong! Go WGA/SAG-AFTRA! An indie horror from 1981 called JUST BEFORE DAWN would be great to hear your thoughts on. It's actually pretty good and it has probably the best Final Girl final battle endings in all of horror - unbelievably clever and unforgettable.

Jamie is so good in horror films, that's her genre as an actor. Hello, Mary Lou, Prom Night II is the sequel. She's been versatile in trying others throughout the years, but this really suited her. She did three films in 1980 (my birth year): This one, Terror Train (with David Copperfield), and The Fog. She was busy as an actor all throughout the 80's. A different side of Jamie would be the film Road Games. So different seeing Leslie Nielsen in a horror film, not usually his forte. Nice reaction. I do suggest the 1981 horror film The Funhouse starring Elizabeth Berridge. She was the "babe" in the it. Thanks! Oh, btw, a unique sci-fi film to check out with Jennifer Connelly is called Phenomena. Donald Pleasance aka Dr. Loomis is in it.

I'd suggest foreign films too if you wanna avoid any grey area films too? Or like super old ones in the public domain. The original Ringu abd Ju-On are great foreign options alongside The Devil's Backbone I think? The Prom Night sequels are absolutely batshit insane and are such a different type film that you'll love. Will you be watching Scream the series too? I think you'd get some fun out of it and keeps very similar vibes as the main series.

Some independent movies to consider: 47 meters down, creep, compliance (2012 - more of a dark thriller based on a real event), Terrifier (2 has the best synth music!), Slumber Party Massacre, Saw?, Planet Terror.

I’m so glad you liked this one! A lot of people hate on it, but I ADORE Prom Night. It’s one of my favorite slasher films of all-time. It would be fun to see you watch Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night 2, which has nothing to do with this one but it is great as well. Many people prefer the second one (not me, but I get it). Don’t bother with any of the sequels after 2.

Depending on how long this Strike goes on Better Watch Out would be a great and I believe safe movie for November/December. It’s one of my all time favs. Also other recs that I think would be okay; Spree, Spoonful of Sugar, Watcher, The Night House, and Funny Games to name a handful. Also just wanted to say that I absolutely love your channel. I look forward to coming home from work on Tuesdays to unwind with a new video. Keep doing what you’re doing. 🥰🥰
