Adyashanti is such a gentle man. He does not sugar coat what the spiritual life entails but lays it out in practical terms for all people to understand

Right after @29:25 Alanis asked, "As opposed to what?", regarding Adya joining the human family rather than simmering in spiritual circles. What came to mind was analogous to people who have the economic benefit of being able to drive their car everywhere, in their own comfort and safety-no waiting for the bus, no encounters with drunken homeless people sputtering in your face, no person tormented by mental illness shouting while pushing into you on tiny seats, no awkward encounters with human disorder and stench, etc. What is the nitty gritty spirituality? What is being entirely naked and vulnerable? Ride public transportation through the seediest parts of a city. Basically, are we referring to human discomfort? Are we saying spirituality is a form of comfort? Is this a form of escapism or hmmm... I'm thinking. I don't know. I'm grappling with being present with my and other people's suffering, whether I encounter them in dark alleyways, in the lost and winding tunnels of the mind, or the deep poverty and hopelessness I witness around me because I can smell it and it makes me fall onto my knees for an even deeper spirituality. Sorry, late night rambling, or groping for something real.

We'll never be able to express what is most important. First because there is no single thing and second, as soon as we try to isolate and prescribe that thing, it slips through our fingers and become untrue the moment it's given. So far what's worked for me and the folks I know is to take on suggestions and try them out with no expectation. As soon as I demand a particular result in the area of spirituality, multitudes of endless sidetracks pop up. There should really be no choice of direction when there is only one. Lovely chat.

How did I land here? Oh, I know, I wanted to see Alanis Morissette...read some comments, if truth be known the best way to what they call enlightenment is silence...you are not anything you can point to, think about; you are not who you think you are, words IN A WAY make it infinitely difficult because all words are about concepts and what you are has nothing to do w/ concepts, thinking or w/ the mind. "Be still" is all that is required but it would not make a very good tv show..better than adyashanti (guru to the stars) is Nisagardatta, Ramana or even someone like O'Denvers "open intelligence." All you need by way of instruction is to keep your attention on the background, the interior, on the silence that 99.9% of people think is nothing; it is the "emptiness" that is the pearl of great price, the truth that sets you free, the narrow road that few be there that find it; stay there. Like the Bible says, it grows...ABIDE in the silence/the self/the I AM/the consciousness....stay there...

Essentially, you are correct, because it is that simple. But if it were that *easy* (not the same thing as simple) there would be no demand for teachers like Adyashanti or companies like Sounds True.

All are One, But some are more one then others" I start getting skeptic about "popstars" getting enlightened...If one lives long enough , we see the same things happening, only the faces and names chance. (for example ) The Beatles and "Maharishi Transcendental mediation" in the 60/70thies. Richard Gere and the Dalai lama, Etc,etc. While "Joe the plummer " has to buy expensive courses and retreats. The Rich and famous , seem to get to sit next to the " Enlightened Teacher" of choice. , Just like they get a table at every exclusive restaurant, or VIP treatment in every club, party, etc, etc. I do not see the difference... I got nothing against Alanis nor Adyashanti. Far from it. I like her music and Adyashanti 's talk. But...Who cares about Adyashanti relation with Alanis ?

It's a conversation to give people perspective. Yours now has apparently entered doubt. Maybe you can find some reason that you choose to doubt others through this. It is your perspective, after all. Many people may care a great deal about what seems trivial to you. Results may always vary. It's very adult to admit this.

It is what it is. Everyone's perspective varies. This was my observation at a particular moment about popstars and spirituality. it may surprise you that I like her music and i agree with his teachings. That does not mean i have to like all they do. trivial ....Yes, maybe that is the right word for this particular conversation. If it is not trivial for you. That's fine. But i do not make any assumptions about your state of mind or mindlessness . Doubts or faith. ". It is your perspective, after all".

finally...someone who agrees. There are so many people who are convinced 'now'is the worst time ever...Or even more radical, 'the end of the world is coming because; 'look at all the wars an natural disasters' If we just take the first half of the 20th century. there was WW1, The great depression, the Spanish flu , and W.W.2 ( leaving out the huge earthquakes etc,etc Now i am a historian, so i realize i may look at things from a different perspective. But the things i mentioned above are ,or should be common knowledge. sorry,.i got carried away, haha

You obviously don't have the necessary background in concepts and terms that is needed to understand what they're talking about. Look for Alan Watts videos on KZfaq - he was great at explaining these things starting from normal language and moving to spiritual terms in a way that would produce understanding in pretty much anyone. When he talks about spiritual things it doesn't sound like bullshit and you don't have to be already initiated to understand the points being made.

I know this is the internet and the comments are always horrendous well mostly anyway but there are a lot of sore losers here... this post like any religious or political one being a sh!t magnet to begin with. The puerile attitudes remind me of a couple of memes actually. #1 you're NOT deep, you're NOT an intellectual, you're NOT an artist, you're NOT a critic, you're NOT a poet, you just have internet access. The millennials whining baby cry all over: If you dissent you don't get it. Get over your unripened selves will you? #2 The number of "you need this" "you don't get it" or it's too "deep" for you is too damned high Maybe I am expecting too much from potheads from Frisco to begin with! :P "You obviously don't have the necessary background in concepts and terms that is needed to understand blah blah blah" How much more of a conceited airhead passive agressive nincompoop numpty can you ^%$##% BE? Joe Caissy The only one conceited here is you, who will not accept the possibility that there are other explanations behind the terms used in the video that would make the conversation meaningful. You're just so damned convinced it's all worthless mumbo-jumbo that all you can do is hurl abuse in response. And the reason you got this way is precisely because of the Internet and how it works: how it allows you to isolate yourself in an echo chamber with those who tell you what you want to hear while still believing you're one who researches stuff before pronouncing conclusions and that therefore whatever opinions you already hold must necessarily be right. Get help with your anger issues (or just calm the fuck down and stop trying to seem smart in front of your "skeptic" peers), research Alan Watts, then we can talk.
