Alanis Morissette is back with her first album in eight years, called Such Pretty Forks in the Road. She's also celebrating the 25th anniversary of her massive hit record Jagged Little Pill. The Canadian superstar joined Tom Power to reflect on her musical evolution, and how her songwriting approach topics like anger and abuse has changed over time. cbc.ca/1.5750263

She's read all those books behind her. She is super informed, very intelligent. Beautiful too, very real. Been listening to her music since I was 12 years old.

I love her new album! It's so good to see her again after all these years making music. I really hope she makes something special for the 25th anniversary of "Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie" album. It's her best record so far.

Wow as a devoted fan this is one of the most interesting interviews she did in a really long time! The title is doing harm to how great conversation it is, maybe you should consider changing it to something like ’Alanis talking 25 years in the music industry’. Anyway thank u for this great 45 min 🙏❤️

Indeed. I wanted to know if her song Symptoms (i love most) is connected to reckoning. Indeed a very informative interview.

@@vin0720 Symptoms to Reckoning? I really want to hear your claim haha. Symptoms it's a political song & Reckoning it's about her former manager who stole money from her.

Yeah because my bottomline is both political and financial. Story somehow resembles at some parts (for my own understanding). Wish u could post a video of her singing Symptoms, live. ❤️

What a nice conversation. I’m glad I found an interview that does tackle her new record. Interviewees mostly ask her only about Jagged Little Pill.

Hope to at the very least see you at Bluesfest next summer... you should bring the kids, and head into cottage country for an adventure . Thank you for a beautiful interview! 🙏🏼🥰🍀

I'm a huge Alanis fan but about Hands Clean around 16:15 - I think the reason why it didn't spark a conversation is that the song is pretty cryptic in a way. It's not obvious unless you are dissecting the lyrics that there's a change in perspective and so the song almost sounds like she is accepting the improper relationship as a secret. And maybe that's the genius of is is that it's concealed in a pop song

It's amazing that Jagged Little Pill was her homerun moment. She said she sublimate everything. It helped her to reach for those lyrics at the time. Therapy can be more expensive. Just sublimate ,and create a great album or a painting or beautiful children for the world. Like how she conveyed because we sublimate there is anger seeping through the cracks. It's complicated. I could imagine her teaching her children to love people and respect. Her children are White and coming up hopefully with dealing with all children. Alanis is probably an awesome Mom. She is bring up people that is a part of her spirit. So there is hope for the world.

Can anyone direct me? I was listening to an interview of her on NPR and they played a clip of kids in school (sounded almost like an SNL skit) and I am guessing the kid ( lil Alanis?) did the song Ironic for the class and the class kept stopping her, to point out that those things were not ironic. ANyone know what that's from?

I look forward to at least one Alanis song about menopause and premenopause, a ten-year process nobody talks about. I was researching story, when I read that many members of the Obama admin were going through menopause during his two terms. Then I realized that, yes, those years are often when women rise to their highest levels of competence. A better way to say that may be that that decade is when they’re finally given credit for the knowledge and power they’ve worked for since their teens or twenties. Since Alanis is at “that age,” or nearing it, I hope she’ll speak about the challenges and rewards in her work. And the common fear that women have, beginning in their 20s, that they’ll be old, ugly, undesirable, not valuable, etc. after menopause. Speaking of age, I sincerely hope she’s not coloring her hair. 😘

Ironically, Ironic wasn’t really written with words that are Ironic, it was written for fun and entertainment, Ironic, isn’t it.
