The song is about Elvis. You may remember the black velvet pictures of him from back in the late 60's early 70's. Yes, you are correct. 💯🔥

Black Velvet did not refer to those paintings, however. Alana said it referred to him singing like a black man with a velvet voice. It also did not refer to the Black Velvet whiskey. All of the references are about Elvis. MEMPHIS, white lightning, mama's baby (his love for his mom), in the heart of every school girl, Love Me Tender, little boy's smile, the way he moved, so sweet and smooth, in a flash he was gone too soon. This is my favorite Elvis tribute. Her voice is fire and the whole song is fantastic.❤❤❤

Sorry, at the time, Alannah said it refers to the black velvet shirt Elvis wore at his first ever televised appearance, at a state fair. The b/w footage is on YT. He still has his natural dirty blonde hair. He dyed it black shortly after.

It is Elvis....the first clue was she mentioned Mississippi. Elvis was born and raised in Tupelo Mississippi and he bought his home in Memphis Tennessee

She’s Canadian ! Love this tribute to Elvis.. it invokes so much of Elvis story. There’s a version with lyrics which right away you can guess it’s about Elvis.. Memphis, black velvet, love me tender , mamas boy

Yes... the song is about how Elvis found his roots, and the impact it had on both the population. He was a new sound, and he came from black roots. He broke the through the sigmas of rock and blues. ❤ They use to make Elvis images on black velvet... google velvet elvis painting. And in his later years he wore a lot of white suits. Elvis hung out ion blues bars, and in southern black churches as a child.

you just MUST listen to more Alannah. One of the greatest singers to come out of my home town of Toronto in the 90's. She won a Grammy for this song. :)

One of the best female voices in Rock and Roll----right up there with Heart's Ann Wilson! Try "Rockinghorse", "Song Instead Of A Kiss", or for a real fun one "I'm Bad For You". Rumour has it that her career was railroaded. Saw her live twice....awesome, commanding stage presence, with energy you wouldn't believe....climbing up giant speakers---just rockin' out!! I think she dated Robert Plant for a while. More, please!

Elvis Presley was actually born in Tupelo Mississippi and leaved there until he was 13. Im proud to be from Mississippi ❤

I remember when this song came out. I was a kid here in Canada, and I wanted to be her. I wanted her hair and that leather jacket she has on in the video. LOL This song is very bluesy but she is kind of pop-blues-rock. She does have some songs a bit more rock. I love her.
