I gave up with the Bluetooth speaker market after my JBL Xtreme I thought why I'm gonna be spending my serious money on these OK speakers if I'm gonna spend my good money I want a great speaker I was hoping the Soundcore Motion Boom Plus would have changed that but sadly not!!!! Soundcore always offers great value for money but I think most were expecting something different as a follow up to the Motion Boom when they released the + (as you pointed out). I think Soundcore also shot themselves in the foot with the first firmware update as well. 🙄 I am interested to see what changes are possible when they release the next firmware, though. Alan thanks for the Anker sound core motion reviews i just ordered one last night. i listen to many genres so i was looking for a natural sounding speaker. i also like the best equalizer settings update you do, keep it going . perhaps 4 versions or settings for more preferences. so one plenty of boom like you like. two for people who like vocals . three for the closest sound to how the artist intended you to here. (natural-flat). and four, some people like bright sounds. so a best bright settings. thanks Alan

and where does it all end? i cant keep up with what i do now 😭 its nice to be appreciated but im trying to keep it simple. only eq when embedded, only then when it makes a significant difference and then one eq for all volumes. of course in the real world multiple eqs is what you want. i just dont have time to be honest 😲

Alan I've come across a post on reddit where the person was having issues with the radiators in high temperature environments. It seems like they jam up and get stuck after the unit heats up after playing music for a while. Apparently the solution is to just turn it off and wait for it to "cool down". OP apparently reached out to Anker and they said that it was a potential issue with ALL units. I'll be taking mine to Greece this week so it'll be the perfect testing ground. Something to maybe look into.

Just got the Tribit Stormbox Blast. Only listned to it for a test, and just barely played with the eq, But wow, just wow, the sound you get for the price is just amazing. And the looks is good to, this is the speaker for 2022.

well, we need to compare both to Tribit Blast, it may change the result. Tribit has visually identical speakers like Boombox2, more power and weight than MB+, so it probably will sound better. And cost..... 1/3 of JBL price :)

I live in Florida and go to the beach a lot, so I purchased the boom plus thinking it would be a good beach speaker. After around what was probably about 45 minutes to an hour of playing on the beach, the passive radiators would jump out spastically, uncontrollably and rattle and this was with the speaker on just a bit below half volume. Turning bass mode off and changing the settings in the EQ helped for a few minutes, but after a while it would just go back to spazzing out. I'm guessing the hot weather was probably what was causing this? Either way, it definitely raises concerns about this speaker.

I had this happen last night in my house. The membranes eventually stuck out so far that they got stuck and the speaker had to be turned off to "cool down". This could be a huge design flaw as I have seen other reports of this. Firmware can't fix this either.

Just updated the firmware to v0.34. Definitely a big improvement to v0.29. I have 2 motion boom plus's and I updated one first, then compared the 2. The new update seemed fuller, more balanced than the old one. Very happy with both of them updated to the new firmware and in tws. No regrets!

@@njbraun I started with Alan's EQ settings then tweaked them to my liking. I brought the 80 htz up to +6, 1.2k down to 0, 5k up to 0, 9k up to +2 and the 13k down to +5. I'm still working with these settings but for now, I'm very happy with the results. I'm using an iPhone with the phone eq set on "rock", by the way. I know Alan said he is going to give this speaker a break for a little bit but I'm curious to see what he thinks of this new firmware update. I trust his opinion more than most on KZfaq. Keep up the great work Alan!

Great video, I’ve borrowed my friends motion boom plus to try for a little and see if it suits my ears. After 3 days I’ve determined that the highs are a bit grainy and harsh as well as some resonant frequencies that did not sound good on that particular track at moderate listening level. I did put a custom tune on it but you can’t fix the grainy highs through the eq. What would happen if you ran your music through a dac then to the boom plus? I don’t have one to try but I may get one. Comparatively the highs on my old Rocketfish speaker sound silky smooth and well balanced and provide a fuller, richer sound. That speaker has two full range drivers and a dedicated sub. Since it’s not waterproof it has some kind of fiber cone I think and I’m sure that helps the sound vs titanium.

Hi Allan. After watching Oluv’s video, I’m not sure why he had to go out of his way to insult your methods. You both bring different styles to the table. I appreciate your ways and have been a subscriber before you had 700 of them. I’m not one of those child subscribers Oluv describes. I’m just happy there are so many methods to listen to music. The Motion Boom plus needs to get a update to make it sound smoother but still is very impressive. The Boombox 3 will be released incthe US in July 15th idk for everywhere else it might be the same🤷♂️

Just installed the 00.34 firmware update on the motion boom plus. I didn't think it was that bad before, but I think there is a definite improvement in the sound when EQ'd I never have heard the original motion boom so that may have me biased, somewhat. . I might just buy another, if there is a prime day discount next month.

I've checked some teardowns for the motion boom and the insides of the speaker are empty(no stuffing material), maybe adding it, we could get a bit more bass out of the speaker, maybe Alan is willing to experiment.

@@alanrossreviews agreed, but the thickness of the surround on that capsule-shaped woofer gives me hope for new bass depth at high volume, with less roll off. conversely, i fear the "dark" character of the Boombox mids will continue, or even worsen, because for some reason JBL decided that the Boombox 3 tweeters should have waveguides that *completely* block the midranges underneath. that waveguide need to be reduced about 1/3 in diameter, and the 4 arms mounting in front of the midrange should be much thinner.

Soundcore just dropped a new firmware update for the plus a couple hours ago. The release notes simply say "optimizes sound" or something like that. Version 0.34. Haven't tested it yet as the family is still asleep ha ha. Hoping this fixes the peak.

Alan, tell me what that could mean. In my mif, when I press the two diaphragms on the sides, I hear a rustle or air from the woofers. Could this affect the sound quality? the left tweeter started to crackle

you mean the passive radiators? when you press them do the woofers move? if not it sounds like they are not air tight. left tweeter crackle means you need it replaced. crackles all the time?

Hey Al check out this great teardown video of the motion boom plus (in Spanish I think). You can see the woofers are actually 25W each and the tweeters are 15W each! Why would they tell us the wrong stats? Wonder if that has anything to do with the tweeters sounding cheap, cause they are more powerful than they say? (Just guessing)

The Soundcore actually sounds more vibrant... The bass on the JBL mutes.. or muffles everything else. I love bass but I like to hear the accompanying harmonics. As a hip-hop fan I'd probably like a bit of mid-range in there.

Just received my tribit Stormbox blast, it's a big winner. Going to definitely return this motion boom plus. The boombox 2 was always too bass heavy for indoor listening. For the record I also own many Soundcore products

Well, I just got back from 10 days in Mexico with the Motion Boom +. I have to say that outdoors at the beach I am pretty happy with it after my quick custom PEQ settings BUT when I used it in the room it was soooooo friggin boomy in the mid bass. I guess I gotta go back to the drawing board. I am almost to the point where I like this speaker BUT, if I have to do so much work to get it where I want it, is it a good speaker? Probably not.

@@alanrossreviews ah yeah, the "signature" EQ now has a dip for that mid/upper bass. Can't tel but it seems like the dip in mids got moved higher. Will anxiously await your review but to my groggy ears, it sounds much better.

@@alanrossreviews so I don't know that they are stuck but after maybe 6 minutes out on the hot pool deck and I think the speaker may be shot. It kinda looks like the tops of the PRs don't move much and the speaker sounds blown. FFS

Alan, they just released firmware 0.34. I got the email this morning from Soundcore (They contacted me after I did a review on their website). Check it out, hopefully they cleaned up that harshness a bit.

Lol. The firmware specifically says “Optimized High Frequency Sound Quality”. Let’s see, I’m interested in what you think. I tried it and it actually does sound a lot easier on the ears inside. Not sure how I’m going to adjust my EQ.

Has anyone else had an issue with their Motion Boom Plus, where the passive radiators fully extend and the bass is lessoned significantly? This has occured with mine twice, both times I was listening out doors at high volumes for around a half hour.

Yes, happened to me three times, all indoors but playing higher volume (around 50%). You can literally watch the membranes slowly grow out after each song until about 30 minutes in when they finally max out and then the bass goes to crap and makes a horrible rattling sound. I reached out to Soundcore and they confirmed this issue. Told me an exchange would not resolve issue and that they are "looking into a fix". They told me they would let me know when they fix it so I can re-purchase the speaker. You have to leave the rubber cover on the back of the device open, then this won't happen again. The speaker is built too tightly 🙄

@@alanrossreviews that seems to have an affect as well. I emailed Soundcore and they offered a few options. I'm going to return mine and wait for them to make one without an issue like this, and then I'll have a 30% off coupon on it. Seems fair IMO.

the jbl has deeper bass but sounds like it’s under a blanket imo…maybe if you put the Soundcore under a blanket, it will fix the highs since it’s not all covered up like the jbl. hopefully they’ll fix that issue with an update 🤷🏽♂️

If there would be a way to add an aux input to the Motion Boom, I would have gone that route because it has such a great sound. But the lack of aux input makes it impossible to use it with a dj controller, too much latency, needing a bluetooth transmitter etc. The Boombox 2 still retails at 400 euro which is seriously overpriced. At 150 euro the boom plus seems to be a decent loudspeaker but far from perfect. Whats the alternative? is there an option of improving the sound by exchanging tweeters?

Finally got mine but it's a defective unit. Tiny cut offs during play and some occasional static noises...gets worst using custom EQ. Plays well on AUX but can't use EQ playing thru aux. I've done the rebooting many times and used different devices...still same problem. Getting a replacement. But I'm a little disappointed..the sound still sound kinda recessed to me..maybe cuz I'm playing on aux. The bass is definitely not like the Motion Boom.. it's more of a thumping bass than the richer fuller deep sweet Bass of the Motion Boom. Why why Soundcore???🤔😊

As for the bass, I totally agree with you. The Boom's bass sounds drier/richer, although not as pronounced as the Plus. I'm still happy about the Plus and have only listened to it since I've had it. Also because of the detailed trebles. Also because of the detailed highs (I don't rate the upper mids here).

realy....the boombox 2 sounds much better overall.... but yes: it does have a lack of brightness and extension in the highs. and the boom plus is really rough and bad in the highs. what I didn't expect was that the boom plus was loudest than the bb2! even so overall the bb2 is much better! anker made a mistake in the sound signature of this sondbox. but as I said, the jbl encore essential has the good bass of the BB2 but with better treble! my favorite sondbox at the moment is Encore Essential...............and second favorite to me is HK Studio 6

Why are 13khz cranked up on Boom + ? as well as 300Hz? It def. can sound way better in comparison to the JBL, its just been eq'ed to sound quite thin and harsh. I would approach EQing - by dropping every single band to to the ground and then working my way up to what sounds good...

Did you have a good Equalizer? The Sony SRS -XG 500 is a beast with a good 10band Slider, even the JBL boombox 2 cannot hold this massiv Bass about 60-70% volume and a huge Peak for 38hz / 41 / 52 / 66Hz. I ask you because the Sony App is bullshit and cant improve the muffled Sound but poweramp can do it well. Maybe you can get a offer?

I think with Poweramp (Pro) you have the best app you can get. I love their many setting options for up to 32 frequency bands and the separate tone with bass/treble and Q factors, where you can even choose the frequency individually, which allows you to tease out the last bit of sound.

@@alanrossreviews It's a pretty important one though. Hoffman's Iron Law basically indicates that box volume and efficiency at low frequencies are directly related. Concerning weight, the Motion Boom uses neo-magnet bass drivers, so that will immediately make them lighter than bass drivers using conventional magnets in their motor structures, e.g. the ones used in the JBL BB2, and that in turn makes the whole system lighter. Neo magnet drivers tend to be more expensive than their conventional magnet equivalents, so it's interesting to see that the less expensive MB+ uses neo magnet drivers while the JBL BB2 does not.

, I tried both of them, when compared in terms of size, BB3,bb2 is complete garbage. After setting the special equalizer for Anker, it has a great real and clear sound with a good Android phone. I think Anker will crush BB3 in terms of price and size.

No it doesn't have anything like a natural sound, would love to see your measurements supporting this. However as i have said multiple times most people do not know a neutral sound and ALWAYS go for bass light bright speakers. That's fine, just goes with what works for you but i cant allow for misinformation which weirdly this month has been 99% of soundcore comments in terms of misleading comments. Personally i dont think this is a coincidence.

Tonight I checked soundcore app for new firmware for boom+ and it suggest the 0.34 version which supposed to fix the high frequency issues, I apply the upgrade (from the original firmware) and I can tell you now high frecuency sounds worse than the original firmware does.

@@jetfighter7497 yeah I was looking at the partybox series. Just want something I can take to festivals, camping, off grid and have decent deep bass. Might see if I can try find a 100/300 in person somewhere. I used 2 extreme 3’s last year at a festival and they were good if we put them up in the corner of the gazebo where the bass had a chance to bounce a bit. Got a Motion Boom Plus thinking 2 of them might be a step up but quality wise (and it could be because I’m used to them) the xtreme 3 still “sound” better despite lacking the loudness or deeper bass. Idk, so many options 😂

@@danieldevine saw the last retail on partybox 100 was below 250€ but now they are barely available because of the p.box 110 i think the pb 100s & 300s are your choice if sound quality and loudness are your top priority, 2 jbl boomboxes for portablity but prices are a bit weird on boomboxes..

Man, that JBL sounds...dare i say PERFECT? Transparent mids and highs plus smooth bass that does not cloud up the midrange.,,but it could also be my Mirage home theater speakers making it sound better than it actually sounds. Mirage speakers...best investment next to a HSU home theater subwoofer.

It's 80 watt RMS.... that's not its peak power output...... the boombox 2 throws out between 140 to 160 ish peak power.. you can easily figure this out with a multimeter ;)
