So I work sales and mrk. When we want to send something really well we create a more expensive version of it so people get the regular one as a "deal". For example; you can get 6 ferrero roscher for 4 euros or you can get this amazing deal of 21 ferrero roscher for 8. (which is normal price but looks like a super deal because you created an unatractive product and put it besides it). That is what puerto rico and alaska look like

I freaking love my Alaska. Decent HE but most importantly a very punishing AP, that loves to eat broadside cruisers. Really awesome ship, one i always go back to when my games dont go too well.

The Dockyard IS fantastic as a concept. They should allow that on free exp ships and let you pay in to construction as you go. Say an option on Research tab on Tech tree that lets you pay all or a portion of it and show ship building as you go. Maybe even on Tech tree ships pay ship xp as you go towards building the next vessel.

I think that a better idea would be this kind of event: As a christmas gift you would be able to choose to build any premium ship (only one) and then you would have to complete grind based of the tier and the type of the ship you chose.

Flamu did you noticed they removed enterprise for “battle fluctuations” and said they’d look into her for the patch and noticed they just loot boxed her instead. So much for year of the cv when we only got 5 prem cvs, only 4 are available for purchase and only 2 (Kaga and Saipan) are worth buying. The Alaska is way better and cheaper than the PR.

Congrats on your 80k. I love my Alaska, 100% my favourite ship in the game. I run hydro and radar, and I feel confident taking on any class or tier ship. It's a great ship. Was super excited when I thought the PR was going to be a better Alaska. Was a bit upset regarding the grind. But now, no tears wasted. Thanks for the vid, makes me feel a whole lot better.

The concept of building the ship had so much potential, but the sheer grind with the PR has tarnished it. Honestly imagine getting to do this with Free XP for the Alaska, where rather than saving up a lump sum to unlock it you could slowly watch it being constructed as you earned free XP.

I think the biggest Advantage the Alaska has over the PR is the fact that you can play it whereas you'll never be able to get the PR

What most people don't realize or understand is that especially in f2p games they track your actions. From forums to your ingame account, and they found out that the people complaining the most are also the people paying and buying the most, regardless of what they say. That is why nothing ever changes, because nobody takes you serious.

Exactly. Alaska is accurate enough to do the job and can maneuver brilliantly with right selected combination of slotted modules-agility. My favorite quote out there about Puerto Rico is, “Puerto Rico isn’t Alaska 2.0. It’s Montana 0.5”

USS Alaska is my first FXP ship and i do not regret buying it. I love it together with cpt. John Doe, changing ammo in around 4-5 seconds when the situation calls for it is super.

Thanks for this Flamu. I have both the FXP and the B versions of the Alaska and I enjoy playing them a LOT. I was keen on the Puerto Rico as it was advertised as an Alaska+. I'm running a different build, dropping the conceal and steering gears 2 upgrades for propulsion mod 2 and steering gears 3. It's surprisingly agile in that configuration. I confess, I'm also pretty bad at this game. I've written off the 6k Doubloons I wasted on the first Puerto Rico booster. Lessons have been learned.

First 6 minutes of this video is a "WHAT TO FIX" guide for WG, dont be surprised if they nerf Alaska and buff PR thanks to this.

I've seen the post from SubOctavian ..... I almost believed him when he said that PR is for a limited portion of players which are capable of grinding the ship...but this is bullshit because it cannot be grinded no matter what and instead the ship is available for the fat pockets....so I'm happy to have the Alaska which is amazing and I really enjoy playing with it. So hail Alaska and f*** PR and the shitshow around it. The only dissapointment is the fact that I cannot enjoy the dockyard which was an amazing idea but I did it on the PTS so .... I just stopped following Notser. Evidently he was the only one who was aware that the PR was going to be for ‘only the most hardcore players’ from the beginning, and he’s sorry we’re all too stupid to have realized it. I’ve already uninstalled all my WG titles as I don’t believe for a second they’re going to fix this, and they clearly don’t give a shit about those who disagree.

I'm a complete weeb and IJN main in Wows. Alaska however, is the ultimate representation of US power in Wows and one of my favorite ships. All US traits like improved AP angles, powerful AA, radar, 27mm bow, plunging shells that don't overpen cruisers. If there's any US ship to get, Alaska is the one!

The new dockyard mechanic felt waaaaaaay too good to be true.

PR is upgrade of Alaska - in PR you cannot get citadel damage hit because its citadel is surrounded by additional 107mm armor.

Well, miscommunication seems to be the main feature of the head of WG company. You have to look at the event differently. Forget what they said about getting the PR for free (actually you can get it for "free" in a certain way. "Free" in this case means free of playtime. You don't have to play the game to get the PR. Just spend about 200 Euro. xD) You basically have to spend the 24k dubloons right at the beginning, to get the counter going and then try to get as much dailies, shipments and directives as you can with your spare time. In the process with each building milestone unlocked you'll receive tons of coal, some highly valuable steel (both enables you to get other ships as well more easy than without the event), containers (which may contain additional premiums) and so on and if you manage to finish the 3. directive you'll get this Italian cruiser and probably enough building points without spending additional dubloons. I really do not understand the fuss that goes beyond the point of the horrible communication policy. The dockyard itself is a beautiful and well executed job of the 2d and 3d artists and they deserve a fair wage for their work. By all the complaints about the big greed of a company in a system that favors greed, most people forget in their little greed to appreciate what they get for their "investment".

I like the Alaska. She does have a bit of a learning curve and needs a good captain to get the most out of her. Not recommended for someone not familiar with how to play her. She's not a typical American cruiser and is great for flanking.

The main difference between the Alaska and the Puerto Rico is that the Puerto Rico bought their crew and the Alaska actually trained them.

Played it yesterday for the first time for a while, also because of the PR event. And I've realized again how amazing it is. One of my favourite ships in the game. Definitely get this one instead paying more money *and* having to grind like a maniac to get the PR. Alaska is all you need if you're interested in ships like the PR.

A point you made around 17:15 about economy, there are no T10 "premium" ships. They're technically classified as "special". Essentially just an Elite ship with the ability to use any captain without retraining.

Was saving up that 1m fxp for the Alaska for awhile, but got the Alaska B in a Black Friday crate. Pretty sure the Alaska is my most played t9 now.

Well that settles it as I already have grinder the 1 mill FXP for Alaska and also acquired Alaska B in a Black Friday Container, any time I would have spent in an attempt to get PR will go to other games and any money of would have spent on Premium ships or time/containers will be put into other things like new games. What I don't understand is that the vast majority agree that PR is inferior, so a sucka shelling out 200 large is not P2wW. The chump just helped further development for all of us to enjoy.

Why don't they just remove the time limit you have to complete the Puerto Rico, yes the missions are still way to much but if you can just take a year to slowly complete them and slowly keep building on the ship. It would improve the shitshow situation a lot in my opinion. And I think it is something we all expected when then teased us with the dockyard build your own ship. And yes I know it is bullshit that someone with 3 battles can get this by just waiting and let the slow point just tick to full, so maybe lock it behind 500 battles or 1 tier ten before you unlock it.

Let me put this into perspective: I played the first batch of personal missions in world of tanks (before they made them easier) up until I had the T55a. The last mission on medium tanks alone took me 300 battles - and that was with divisioning with OM unicum players. I wrote a review on the forums back then, rating them in difficulty (user name is dCK-Ad_Hominem if you want to look it up). So I know what a hell of a grind feels like without a time limit involved. Looking at PR.... well why would anyone do this? I got into competitive play in wows to get my Stalingrad. And I have to say that was a very positive experience as I loved my clan and clan wars in general. Then, of course, wg made her available for steel and gone is the special aura of owning one. In closing: nobody should feel compelled to slave away at the game this much at this time of the year. And if you badly want her, just pick up an extra job for a month and flat out buy her. Better and more fun use of your time and just maybe you will find something more worthwhile to spend the money you earn on.

Why would I want to spend anything .. ANYTHING .. on any ship offered by WG given the crap and lies and pure BS they tossed out for XMas. And then they come out with a guide on how to grind to get the PR with only a "few" purchases which is pure BS. I am sick of their crap and they refuse to back down from their attempt to squeeze more money out of players.

I would agree with you Flamu, but let us have a look at the cost of Alaska is 1,000,000 free XP that will cost 40,000 doubloons maximum from 0 to 1,000,000 to convert to free XP that is around £123.23 depending on how much you have in free XP on your account. I still would go for Alaska.

I feel so fucking burned out having to explain for people on reddit why Puerto is not just "a T10 Alaska with an extra turret". That myth needs to die.

Now that I think about it, shouldn't wargaming be able to fix this problem by giving away around 400 - 500 ship building tokens for free? A) They get to tell people to skip a good chunk of the unreasonable grind. B) You won't have to worry about any offers of some people requesting for a refund. C) it's just enough ship building tokens for you to grind just the first directives and skip the 2nd and 3rd and entice people enough to spend their dubloons on the first 2 pay to win boosters. D) They get to make money for the dubloons spent on those boosters (and no out of pocket expense for them) E) They get to cool off the sour mood they've put the player base through. (most of it anyway)

The Kronstadt doens't have guns... it has rail guns. Seriously, just today I was citadelling a KGV (14-15" belt) from 18km away, and over-penning the turrets of cruisers and the casemate of battleships close up. Just insane.

Puerto Rico is one of best ships I have. I tanked 2 BBs, one of which was a Kremlin and destroyed one in the process. However I do understand your point behind downgrading the PR.

People think Puerto Rico has 2.0 sigma so her gun very accuracy....but when they remembered about 2.0 sigma on Scharnhorst's gun with bad dispersion before she got buffed dispersion...That'll be the EH feeling

Honestly I enjoy Kronshtadt more. Alaska AP seems kind of wonky to me and it seems like any 406 BB that fires at you will citadel you through the bow. Or maybe i'm just consistently unlucky. Thats certainly a possibility

Have to disagree with you about the AA Flamu. Getting two extra long range guns gives PR one more flak puff than AK and 40% more dps on the longer long range aura. PR trades 8 single 20mm Oerlikon for 2 quad 40mm bofors which are also active in the 2km self defense aura. By my estimation not only is PR better at self defense, it also is significantly better at defending team mates and creating no fly zones with allies.

The best part? Alaska is also reasonably obtainable.

I think you should do an update. Alaska may be better, but you are not going to see one in ranked. And after battling the PR the last couple of weeks, I have to say that it is a battleship, labeled a cruiser. Only the Stalingrad is its equal in surviveability (the heal is also silly good). The Des Moines has little effect, bow on to the PR. If you have some advice, I am all ears.

Reminds me of mutsu regarding the dispersion. Comparing to fuso, it have less range but way worse dispersion. 1.8 sigma also don't help either cuz that only makes the ship as accurate as a german battleship (old pre-buffed dispersion curve)
