I think a lot of people are being overly critical of Alatreon because it's an encounter that takes people out of their comfort zone. But personally I haven't been so engaged with MHW in months, and I believe if people give it a chance, they'll see how good it actually is.

Alatreon was the first monster that made me use elemental weapons and it literally took me 3 days to kill him and let me tell you this, the satisfaction that you feel when you get ever closer to killing him is just so good, Everytime you get those horn breaks and the topples. I agree with ruri that he definitely should be post mr 100. I'm willing to bet most of the people who are complaining dont have their gear upgraded, or if they are running fully upgraded gear and have good builds and they still cant beat it, guess what thats not the games fault its the players fault. It sucks to hear sometimes but all the people complaining are probably just really bad at the game in general.This fight was designed to really test your ability as a player. And if you still cant beat it you are just gonna have to accept that you AREN'T AS SKILLED AS YOU THINK YOU ARE. Take that acceptance and use your new mindset to really learn Alatreons patterns and i hate to say it but "git gud." His elemental check is actually really easy and the values for his horn break are EXTREMELY low. Also the worst thing I see most people do against Alatreon is they always overextend and try to get too many attacks in and they get punished for it. You have to learn exactly what moves you can use to punish his recovery frames and not get greedy. Greed in Alatreon will make this fight way harder than it needs to be.
@huntrj3116

the problem is not the dps check, the problem is people don't know how to build a proper elemental set, but rather than learning and trying new methods, they complain that the monster is too hard because the one method they are used to didn't work. I had trouble with him at first, but I learned how to make a good elemental set, and now I consistently suppress his nova every time, both solo and in a group. If anything kills me, it's not the nova, it's his regular attacks since he hits like a truck, as a black dragon should

Iceborne Alatreon has finally convinced me that this is indeed a MH game realized in next gen. My personal experience here, almost all of the monsters from base world and iceborne doesnt have this feeling of "if you dont learn his movesets, you will never defeat them" that was present in older MH games. Previously, if you learn a monster's gimmick you are rewarded with a large opening. For e.x sonic bombing diablos (anyway what is the purpose of sonic bomb in iceborne except for diablos), flash bombing rathalos, breaking barioth claws to make him slip. All that stuff. In world and iceborne, I may have done that but it feels hollow since there is no better way than just unga bunga hit it til it dies to every monster. Its as if a reckless fight where you dont need to learn about the monster is encouraged. Even shara ishvalda, which I think was a challenge where I had to rethink my skill set and be wary of his sands. I cannot shrug the feeling that someone else can win this fight even if they are clueless what to do, chugging infinite potion without punishment. Alatreon however, makes me feel like hunters of the old game. Searching for his elemental weakness, learning his biology (horn break), be wary of my limited potions, and ultimately..... learning his movesets to play better. All of this can happen because of Escaton Judgement. Where you are punished for running around cluelessly, and getting hit all the time. Also for ONCE I actually make use of the online session just like in older games and had FUN. In older games I used to make friends with randoms, when we failed a quest its our fault for not having a better strategy. We try again and we laugh when something funny happens. In world and iceborne? Just SoS every quest, hoping the next person is a godlike speedrunner and then that's it. No social communication, just nothing. Alatreon has finally given that social communication feeling back which I enjoy in monster hunter. This is why I have some feedback for MHW and iceborne.
@TruePeaceSeeker
@TruePeaceSeeker 4 жыл бұрын
1. SOS flare SOS flare is very convenient, i dont have to make a session and wait for a while to get a full team hunt. But with this convenience came a price. Less communication. Alatreon special assignment immediately put you in front of the beast, unlike most hunts in MHW. Players will be caught off guard on this and failed over and over with randoms because it has mechanics where you need to strategize before heading to the fight. This is where the comment "I can deal with him but randoms keep failing" came from. I bet these guys failed 30+ times because they keep using SOS flare. And its never their fault, ALWAYS the random. As a team I know that I am also responsible for the failure of the quest because I used the SOS flare which sacrifice communication. Those who failed 30+ times are punished for not communicating with people. This is where online session FINALLY shines again. After 5 tries fail on SOS I decided I must make a real team with randoms.... y'know.... like the old times?. Finally I can have a real multiplayer experience in MHW just like in the old MH. Of course with the strategy we made, we finally won. Those who thought they can SOS their way out of this one will lose hours because they're too stubborn to communicate. But those who are willing are rewarded with a satisfying victory, and ultimately get new friends. I think in the next MH game, SoS shouldnt exist anymore or at least reworked. I previously never had a problem getting a team to fight a monster, just have to wait for a few minutes.
@TruePeaceSeeker
@TruePeaceSeeker 4 жыл бұрын
2. Build balancing Base MHW focuses on realism so much it made the elemental monsters almost forgotten. As a consequence the meta for the base game itself was raw. Because of this, new players will see that elemental builds are useless and raw can carry them all the way til the end (which it did in base game). In iceborne the devs has finally buffed elemental skills. Yet many players still insist that raw is all you need. MH has always been a game where you learn about a monster's weakness and build something to give that advantage which is mainly the element. They need to balance all of this somehow, so that both build can be viable and used at the same time. I suppose making a monster further weakened by certain element is one way.
@TruePeaceSeeker
@TruePeaceSeeker 4 жыл бұрын
3. Limit your resources I honestly think... this is the core problem of MHW and Iceborne. In the old games you have to prepare all of your items because resource are finite. Blue mushroom and potion to make mega potion, mega nutrients and ancient mushroom(?) to make max potions. It adds a layer of difficulty that is saying, if you get hit too much... you lose. MHW and Iceborne doesnt give you that, after you get hit many times you can just go back to camp and refill your potions. Good as new. You dont have to learn anything about the monster to win. I think the camp should just allow us to change equipment. Maybe if you want more items you are given the chance to request 5 items from the base... after a few minutes you can receive it at the item box.
@TruePeaceSeeker
@TruePeaceSeeker 4 жыл бұрын
Because of infinite items The dev felt the needs to implement 1HKO to make the game difficult, which I think isnt fun for behemoth and safi. But they manage to make 1HKO mechanic fun with alatreon, where you are encouraged to learn him to survive. Remove this infinite items, and I bet there wont be anymore 1HKO difficult fights in the future.
@grantgarbour
@grantgarbour 4 жыл бұрын
I agree with a number of these. I think 16 player lobbies was a mistake and hope it is reverted for the next MH, I never feel obligated to talk with anyone because most of the quests are soloable easily, while this change makes the game more accessible to people that don't want to do multiplayer, it also made the game easier to solo and multiplayer in most cases is unnecessary. I think people making tanky builds and chugging pots is how some people make it through the game and it would feel cheap if that was the only way I could win but hey, play their way I guess, would also like to see that reverted. In base world the team had the bright idea to make most of the monsters in the game use fire element if any, that was also a mistake that they are trying to fix in iceborne but it is still hurting. Only thing I don't agree with is the complaint about Safi's OHKO. Behemoth as a monster is bs and my least favorite in the game by far not really because of his OHKO. Safi's is more like a breather to sharpen and buff mid fight tbh because there is never a risk of getting hit by it since there is always a rock nearby. In response to the infinite healing they did however bump up the dmg on a lot of monsters which I think was a good choice so that people would try to avoid getting hit as opposed to tanking with their face

Personally I find the fight to be very enjoyable and occasionally solo him just for fun, however despite easily clearing the elemental check the thought of “I need to pass the check or I die” is usually heavy on my mind during the fight, but overall it’s fun and learning it’s telegraphs is rewarding. when alatreon came out I argued that raw reliant weapons would struggle but it turns out that elemental values for every weapon are different for this fight specifically, so it’s good to know they took that into consideration, however element in general needs a buff for some weapons still I reckon. Still, I’m not a fan of unavoidable one shots/dps checks but at least the fight is fair and balanced for all the weapons, so chances are you’ll make it through anyway

I agree. Not to mention that the fight is great in general. The moves are well telegraphed and have right hitboxes but still punish over comitting. Also the amount of Element you have to deal is different for each weapon type, so Dual blades etc. dont even have a big advantage. The hours when I figured out his mechanic and how to solo him on my own have been an absolute blast and the first kill felt even better then the first kill on many dark souls bosses.

It’s similar to how Health Regen heals more per hit for slower weapons, i.e. Greatsword and Gunlance will recover more health per hit then Dual Blades and Sword and Shield will It’s ironic really; people say “Escaton was poorly implemented” when in reality, it was actually very well implemented, could they have communicated it better? Yes they could (the former MH community manager Socks actually pointed this out during one of Rurikhan’s Third Fleet Podcasts) but overall they did a fantastic job reimagined Alatreon!

@@alexedwards5152 nice, an answer a jear later xD. Anyway you are right, the communication about all weapons being viable could have been better. I feel Alatreon is purely a challenge fight through and through. I honestly loved the fight immensely due to just how hard it challenged me, pushing me beyond my limit and after getting the hang of his move set and finally beating him, I felt so good and accomplished. Heck, it reminded me of when I played Dark Souls for the first time and I just smiled for a long moment after winning at least once solo. To any still trying it to beat this fight, never give up. Keep trying and you will win once you get it. You can never be defeated as long as you never give up. 😀

I've had a blast with Alatreon. It's made me aware of many things. I appreciate that I now have 1100+ hrs in the game. I like knowing that I've been a part of many successful random hunts, using various weapons. I like the fact that it's a relatively tough foot race, so to speak. It's separated the skilled and prepared from those who are not. I've realized I put all this time into the game but still don't fully utilize or understand many features (the flinch shot, arena quests, fishing, farming materials to craft and more). But I've also put enough time into practicing combat, grinding (some) materials, and carefully making builds to be able to take down Alatreon with randoms. Sometimes in parties of 4, others in parties of 3, and I think i even beat Alatreon with just one other before. It's been so much fun to come back to the game and feel like there's a fun challenge to enjoy and STILL have tons of things to grind so I can improve further. I love Hunting Horn, Gunlance and SwitchAxe, but just discovered how much fun Dual Blades are about 2 days ago and WOOOOOOO I'm hooked

Finally! Love your comments about this. People just want to stay in their comfort zone and steamroll everything. So when their "meta" set got screwed over by Alatreon, they were upset. They couldn't accept that the cookie cutter build they have been using is ineffective against this new end game boss. They refuse to learn, refuse to adapt. They complain about DPS check because they want to play as a tank, as defensively as possible, and then got OHKO by Escaton. Also when they say "I can deal with the whole fight except for the ulti", that's BS, because if they have been hitting Alatreon all the time, they wouldn't have issue with the ulti, would they? It simply means they either "deal with Ala" by playing very defensively, or outright bring in raw weapon and complain about it. This is a great challenge, and a great wake up call for people to get better at the game and play in different style. Also, if they really cannot defeat this monster...well, so be it. It's a game. Either you practice and learn, or just accept that you cannot complete it and move on. The only BS here is MR24... that kinda set the expectation wrong for many people and make SOS a massive pain.

I recommend only making another 5 mega potions then saving the rest of you honey for mega nutrients to make max potions. 2 max potions 5 mega nutrients 5 nutrients 10 mandragora mushrooms This will let you craft 5 more max potions then 5 more mega nutrients (mega nutrients do require honey so don't use it all up making mega potions) then another 5 more max potions so you will have a total of 12 max potions 2 dust's of life 4 gloamgrass buds 3 lifepowders 10 godbugs 6 bitterbugs This will let you make another 4 dust's of life's so you will have 6 total. You can make another 6 lifepowdes so you will have 9 total 1 ancient potion For when you cart before you can eat again 5 astera jerky 5 great sushifish's if you have any not really needed TBH Only use when he is doing his nova use it as soon as your health reaches half you should only need to take one per nova plus a mega potion, lifepowder, or dust's of life So in summery you will have; 15-20 mega potions 7-12 max potions 6 dust's of life 9 lifepowders 1 ancient potion That's a lot of healing I have never used all of it in one fight. Damn That's overkill lol. If people are complaining about running out of health than they need to start looking for ways to not get hit or bring recovery speed 3 plus an immunizer. That will heal almost half the dmg you would have taken (all red health) before your i frames run out on your get up animation. it is hella good. Also recovery up so that mega potions heal for way more. People should explore their defensive options more. Since I spend less time healing the dmg I take with rec speed plus immunizer, I can spend more time attacking the monster

Also, the power scales of some weapons types are totally unbalance & unfair imo. Also, HBG raw damage still destroyed Alatreon. Nothing's really different. CAPCOM really need to overhaul the elemental system & also buffs the bottom list weapons to make it much more balance.

Alatreon on the other hand has hands down the *best mechanic in the game.* Of course this is my opinion, but the concentration and focus of getting that horn break and dps check is very fun and tests you. Sorry, man, but you need to get fucking good because it’s a fantastic fight. I hate the hunters like you that don’t appreciate change, we need change, monster hunter world is too fucking easy. It’s about time we get a difficult fight that can be managed solo and isn’t a arch tempered monster. As for the weapons, I totally agree. My view on the elemental damage check is that out of all other damage checks in the game alatreon's is the best. With a monster such as kulve taroth you are constantly stressed never knowing if you're successful until you progress into the next phase or you fail the quest because you didnt do enough damage. You immediately know when you have met alatreons damage check when the handler speaks and he falls to the ground. Speaking of which, it is so satisfying when you knock him down especially when he is in the air. And for my final point, the damage check actually rewards you for your efforts. Yes it weakens escaton judgement but that knockdown opens alatreon up for you to do major damage to it not to mention you can do this to alatreon multiple times before he does his next eschaton judgment.

I've been trying to solo Alatreon with a hammer to get a good weapon to try to solo Fatalis for a bit now. I'm doing it because I don't have a choice: I do not have PS+, so no online carries, no Kulve Taroth, no Safi'Jiva. Is it frustrating? Yes. I've been banging my head against the wall that is this fight. But I've been changing my build, I've been farming for weapons that I never thought I'd ever come close to (Frostfang Barrioth hammer, Leonid Starcrusher, etc...), I've been trying to fight tougher and tougher monsters for augments and it feels refreshing. Although, a part of me still thinks a little bit of bullshit is involved. Alatreon, Fatalis, Kulve, Safi, etc... Were made for teams of 4. A solo player will get ALL of the aggro and ALL of the attacks of the monster will be directed towards them. And with how ridiculously fast these guys get, it's not really fair to expect any new guy who's been craddled through the base game with OP gear to get through a fight like this. I do think this fight should not have been MR24. It's just not ok. In the end, I'm doing it to prove something to myself. Complaining and whining about the game not being fair will not give me that satisfaction I'm looking for. Thank you for your videos, lad. You and others have been helping me a ton with your gameplay, guides and tips. Edit: The deed is done, I made it! I used a Polaris Bash (Frostfang Barrioth Hammer), and with a little bit of fiddling around with decos and augments, I had it at 1000 ice damage! It took 34 minutes and 2 faints, but I have done it! Next will be Fatalis, but I'll go mess with the GL a whole lot more before tackling that Fatty!

It's genuinely a blast once you get to know it. My current solo PB is 17'31"18 with no faints on Fire Active Alatreon. I added 2 Velkhana y+ parts that I've obtained by myself for more deco slots, innate Ice Attack, and better skills. This also means that I've gotten access to Critical Element, which I had never even considered using up to that point, and BOY it's so strong. I've been getting double elemental threshold breaks left and right, it's crazy. And coupled with the extra massive damage, this thing has been going down super fast. I have an older run on my channel if you want. (Quality's low because it was a highlight from a PS4 stream) Although it contain a lot of mistakes, it also showcases a few tricks that can be done to get the fight over with, such as the grounded/aerial dragon explosion perfect dodge, mounting while Alatreon is flying to get a knockdown, going for a flinch shot while Alatreon is flying, not angry, and after he has done the double pounce attack to get a free wallbang + to ground him, etc... Oh, also I've beaten Fatalis solo after 17+ hours worth of attempts. It was damn tough but I did it!

@@Grey-The-Skeleton Maybe you have already done her, but Master Rank Kulve Taroth scales to player number. You can then use her materials to generate weapons at the Melder (Kjarr Alchemy). Kjarr DB and Kjarr CB are the best elemental weapons in their category, stronger than Fatalis DB and CB against the right match-up. Kulve Taroth still has a DPS-check for each phase (~6 minutes, then she leaves), which can be extended by breaking parts (30s for each mantle part in phase 1, 1min each for cracking the horns, breaking the horns and breaking the tail in phase 2 and 3). Her DPS check is more unforgiving than Alatreon's since one fail means quest failure, but she is as much of a fun fight.

@@Grey-The-Skeleton Doing her solo the first time without Fatalis equipment is a challenge equal to Alatreon and Fatalis. Her DPS-checks force you to play very aggressive and failing even once ends the quest in the most humiliating way: Kulve Taroth flat out leaving. Still, if you collect the materials she drops during the fight (for Kjarr Alchemy and upgrading Kulve Taroth's weapons), even failed attempts will not be waste and eventually, you will get her and feel as good as when you first killed Alatreon and Fatalis, so highly recommended to try it solo (in multi, she is significantly easier). Couple of tips: The DPS-check timer (~6 minutes for each phase) doesn't start until you engage her, meaning in between phases, you can take your time to sharpen, wait for your mantles and change your equipment. However, the timer doesn't stop if you cart or leave in the middle of the fight, unlike for Escaton Judgment. Partbreaker is very useful as breaking parts extend the timer. Phase 1, tenderize the chest and arms and wallbang her = chest armor broken and arms armor almost broken, meaning bonus time (30s for each piece of armor broken) and they are now weakspots. Phase 2, crack the horns (1 minute of bonus time) and damage the tail, but try saving it for Phase 3. Phase 3, wallbang her immediately because she will be permanently enraged (meaning permanent uptime for Agitator). Breaking the horns and the tail will gives you 2 minutes of bonus time before she leaves. Raging Brachydios armor and weapons are the best equipment to go against her next to Fatalis's. Good luck.

I disagree. This monster feels like it was made in one month. OHKOs are a cheap, annoying mmo mechanic that should never be present in a MH game. Escaton judgement was poorly implemented in regards to how element works in this game. "Just bring element" clearly wasn't enough, as dragon, water and thunder really suck for this fight. The fact that you need to be hyper aggressive to a monster who is very fast, has many AoEs and can fly otherwise he nukes you two minutes later really fucks over slower weapons hence why it feels like it was rushed. Behemoth showed the B team what it felt like to make an mmo boss, and they really liked it.

Every weapon has the same chance. Look up the values for Alatreons element threshold. Greatsword needs to do significantly less elemental damage than Dualblades. if you can't manage that then the only thing to say is that you are just not doing it right, which is totally fine. But you clearly don't care since you decided to rant about it instead of coming up with some actually useful ways of dealing with it.

I'm kind of 50/50 here. I love Alatreon's moveset and think he may be the best version we've ever had to fight (although my heart is always with Tri Alatreon), but I do think the escaton judgement makes the fight feel super unfair at times. I'm one of the people Rurikhan addressed in the video - I played a lot of World but haven't kept up with some of the dlc, namely MR Kulve and Safi. For me, the fight felt too much like it was tuned for those monsters' equipment and not at all for base iceborne equipment. I tried the quest with AT Namielle armour and Beo dual swords but I was getting to the 4th or 5th nova because the damage output was so far off of what meta stuff can do. I ended up having to build silver rath gear and barioth weapons to get him down, and it was probably the biggest adrenaline rush I've had in World, so I commend it for that. My issue is that because it's tuned for endgame stuff only, if your elemental damage is good enough to stop the nova but your overall damage isn't super high, you eventually enter an unwinnable state. If you stop the nova twice consecutively and break the horns both times, you can stop the next nova, but then your weapon does 0 elemental damage once he changes elements, and if you're in a group, you're guaranteed to fail the quest if you didn't have people eat for safeguard AND insurance. This is assuming you didn't already ship a death to his base moveset, which is very easily done, and it just feels super bad to invest the time and effort in the hunt, only to have to abandon right towards the end. I think if they had made it so that he couldn't change elements once both horns were broken, that would have been fair since then you could still win with just having good elemental damage, but as it is you're pigeonholed into using safi or silver rath armour if you don't have a kjarr weapon and it feels bad. I still love hunting him but I don't even think escaton judgement was necessary - they could have given him bad physical hitzones and good elemental hitzones, or made it so his parts only broke to elemental damage if they wanted us to use elemental weapons, but instead we have this ham-fisted all-or-nothing approach which has rubbed a lot of hunters the wrong way. That's not even mentioning the hunters who aren't allowed to use their main weapons against him (I'm a gunlance main and using a gunlance without shelling feels pointless and bad). The hunt is great when you play by its rules, but having to play by its rules has, in itself, made a lot of hunters unhappy. If you only use one weapon type and it's really bad with element, this hunt is going to suck for you, and that's a real shame. Sorry for the essay and thanks for coming to my TED talk.

His fight is exhausting to me for being a long one, but i love the hell out of it, and dont know how much of an unpopular opinion this is but im totally fine with a monster being better handled with some weapons than others, its something that has been happening since base world... Personally, i realized this that one time i had to switch to a long ranged weapon as a hammer main to hunt kushala daora cause his wind aura would not let me get close even with a windproof build on and it was annoying as hell, so i switched tactics, and it worked wonderfully, end of story. People are just too quick to complain sometimes, not even attempting to be more efficient in any way at all or try new things. This fight is perfect to reflect just that. Hope it never gets nerfed.
@boulderfrogboulderfrog6512
@boulderfrogboulderfrog6512 4 жыл бұрын
The problem I have with the fight is that it forces you to change instead there just being more effective ways to do it. To use your kushala example it's not impossible to kill it with a close range weapon, just harder. I'm completely fine with something being immensely harder with some weapons or hunting styles than with others, it's why I've used them all at one point or another throughout the series, but I don't think making things outright impossible without definitively saying you will die makes for good game design. It's the same problem I have with sapphire of the emperor and the behemoth meteor, it's just you do the thing we tell you to do or you die. Neither of those examples is that hard to get around, but I think it's bad all the same.

@@_syzygy_ I was referring to being required to use element, the example I used was more meant to illustrate the hunting styles part than the use of a specific weapon part. The game requires you to use element in the same way it requires you to hide behind the rocks for the sapphire of the emperor. If there were some other way to deal with it or if the punishment wasn't guaranteed death specifically then this alatreon would probably be my favourite fight so far in the franchise. I think there are better ways to get players outside their comfort zone than killing them if they don't. Yes, the quest can be beaten without element, but I think death should be reserved for when a player screws up in a hunt, considering we already have the timer to punish players that screw up outside of it.

I will be honest I'm not a fan of the fight I was initially having difficulty with the dps check so I switched to ice then I found I had issues due to the speed of the weapon I was using so I switched to insect glaive and the fight became a joke. The reason I'm not a fan of this is because it. Definitely feels like this fight is skewed to specific builds and weapons and so because of that I feel I can't enjoy this fight as much. It's alot like meta builds, sure they are the best but with all other monsters it isn't necessarily required so you can really just experiment and try new things with alatreon it just feels so much more limited

I have given this fight a chance. I've got this monster drilled down in my head, and yet, I still get deleted. Bringing an ice attack set, with an ice element weapon, and still losing, because there's way too many things to focus on at the same time. It is needless artificial difficulty. I understand it's an element based fight, but having to focus on making sure you don't die combined with making sure you break the parts you need and passing it's DPS check is getting unreasonable. In fact, the only thing that seemed to work was to use a kinsect that's charged up that does ice. Capcoms biggest and baddest monster. Defeated by a bug. Let that sink in.

No way in hell I can kill it solo now, which sucks because it's a great fight but how much more bullshit do they need to make it difficult for the masochists out there, average players want to play too.

Guess I'm the odd one out here since I beat him solo and the first thing I asked myself was "was it worth it?" The fight is fine but the whole you dying no matter what if you fail to deal enough elemental damage is just not fun and feels cheap. Wouldn't it have been better or at the VERY least more interesting if his normal moveset and the environment ramped up in difficulty as you fail dps checks? As it stands there's no counterplay if you fail one and you just stand by and accept your cart as he does his lil animation. The way I beat him was just to use an ice element kinsect to meet the elemental check (It actually meets it very very very fast which is funny) and then I just use a raw IG to break his horns/wings/slice tail ie fight him like a normal and more enjoyable monster.

this fight nearly made me stop playing world because im a firm beleaver of dps checks not being in monster hunter to start with didnt support it with Ecliptic meteor and i still dont support it for alatreon. now if the dps scaling of the EJ was tuned to lower your hunter to like 1 hit point non red hp and just instill that sence of panic it would be understandable its recoverable a tone of resorces if your not runing free meal or free meal secret so its still a punishment for not meeting a dps check Exspecily after you break both horns and he can switch to say fire while your useing fire or ice when useing ice. also this video dose make the point of newer players i had a whole group contemplate quitting the whole game and even as some one from the ps2 era of mh i felt belittled by this dps chek bs. but im stuborn and kept at it till i won thin had to run it another 50 or so attempts with said group till they won because i cant just leave friends to suffer alone....needless to say unless some one needs it im never touching this fight agin as hes just not worth the time to grind him. IMO he was done well for his move set but didnt need a room wipe we dont need "oh the monsters runing away" befor the end hunt timer or hey dps chek room clears. let that stuff stay in WoW and FF14. thats just my openion cant wait to see the dps chek for fatalis as the dev have shown there liking the dps chek mechanics.

Dang people really called themselves good players and started complaining about alatreon *the elemental black dragon* Jeez the fight was amazing in my opinion. All you had to do was corrupt its elemental power, it even shows an animation when you do it, after that wait for it to go into dragon mode. Thats when you can break a horn. Then the judgement starts, you end up surviving because you corrupted the monster and it stays in the same starting element mode because you broke a horn. Its that simple. Im suprised no one started making elemental builds after safi because if you haven't noticed elemental attacks work way better then raw depending how weak the monster is to the element. It upset me that the alatreon they put before fatalis had so little health. But i was glad the fatalis fight took survival skill and tactics.

One thing to help some lower level players is that you can add a health augment to rarity 10 weapons as early as MR 50. Rarity 11 as early as MR 70. Its certainly not ideal but there are a handful of weapons such as the deep schnegel charge blade which can dish out enough elemental damage at your lower levels while not sacrificing too much. Most other weapon types may take a hit on overall damage but it may be worth sacrificing a small amount of damage in order to get that health augment in. I've also come to love the fight. Got to beat it several times while at home over the last weekend. My biggest problem with it right now is that it's event quest only. I'm unfortunately stuck working remotely for the summer and am spending long periods of time where my only source of internet is satellite which is very slow and has limited data needed primarily for work. Suffice it to say, I can't use it for online gaming or connect my PS4 to it at all. Without an internet connection, I can't fight it at all beyond the Special Assignment while up here now until I get home despite it being manageable solo and seems intended to be playable in a solo environment. I get the raid monsters needing an online connection but not monsters that can be fought solo like this or the upcoming Barioth variant which will also be event only. Oh well... still love the game and everything it has to offer. Looking forward to farming it a little more along with doing the new festival quests when I'm home next.

Personally even though I managed to solo this fight myself, it didn't feel rewarding at all. Felt exhausted actually. Haven't launched Iceborne since. The main reason why people dislike it, in my opinion, is not just because of EJ, or elemental requiremements, or not being able to use MT. It is because the game doesn't have enough other options provided to the players to facilitate actual opportunities to clear the content. The current meta in Iceborne has been for a while: you either go for MT, you go for Safi, or you go for Kjarr elemental. And I am one of the people who didn't care about Kulve. I found vanilla HR Kulve boring personally, and thus skipped it. But Alatreon felt like it was needlessly punishing me for not using top tier elemental weapons. So I had to do it with rank 10 Beotodus Dualblades, which was a pain in the ass. I have to agree with you on 2 points: 1. Kulve and Safi shouldn't be the go to events for the best weapons. Kinda goes along with my point above where we need more options for viable weapons/armour combinations. 2. MR requirement definitely should be higher than 24. What I disagree with you on: "It is optional content, you don't have to do it". Actually, new content doesn't *feel* "optional" for players because they want to experience it, especially if it is a completely new monster. It triggers the fear of missing out, and it feels really bad when players think they can't experience it to the fullest, which you can also add as one of the reasons people didn't like Alatreon's mechanics. Overall it IS a good fight, thing is, it doesn't feel like one because of all the annoyances with the game itself that add to it.

There are options. It's not balanced around the meta. People don't NEED to run those sets for everything. They do because they're psychologically fixated on minmaxing over fun. I run Safi mixes because I think it's cool, but I also ran Vaal Soulvein before I had any health augments because I'm bad and it helps with Recovery Up maxed. Now I use Alatreon mix sets and find them very comfortable. My first kill was half an hour, but it was a kill, with a two piece Alatreon mix set and a defensive build using the kinsect for ele threshold checks. Don't even have Teo pieces.

You can dodge his attacks, you can manage to meet the element dps check, you can even cart the nova but still win... It is just a challenging hunt for decent hunters so it is great ! And at the end of the day, by managing to kill it, you get better at the game. I'm even finding myself wanting to try other weapons ! I started the base game with LS then I switched and mainly I'm a lancer, usually now I play HH, some hammer for fun, recently some CB, and I tried some gunlance thanks to you Rurikhan ! I like monsters that make you want to try a different approach. Raging Brachy made me try LBG sticky for instance. Alatreon made me try switchaxe. Now I think I will even try DB !
