It was not official lore, but it's was one of the more exciting lore available as background story for the game. It's worth knowing. It was once imagined to be a part of the game, so we know what Capcom had in their head at the time.

I hope it becomes canon now that fatalis has been slain for the first time (in lore). The guild can now freely go to schrade and explore it. While doing this they could find the prototype for a new version of the EDW (it probably won't be the same as the MHU concept art) and maybe accidentally turn it on.

It’s not official yet! Because there are a few things we never knew before Iceborn. For instance, why did Rajang hunt Kirin. We thought he ate Kirin and nothing else, but Rajang only hunt Kirin Horns. Part of the established lore before was that they only hunted and ate Kirin and now it was shown that’s not the case. So anything goes.

Honestly my favourite detail is that when you fly over to it for the first time, the dragon slowly lifts its head from its reclined position and simply stares at you. You can just hover there for a while and it never takes its eyes off of you, just waiting for you to drop down. It could fly up and attack, breath fire, try to knock you out of the air, but no, Fatalis patiently waits for you to put boots to the ground before starting the fight. Almost like it wants you to have a chance to show it what you can do, if only to make its burning defeat of you more satisfying.

Something about the fight that I love as well, is the score and the music. At the beginning of the fight, you're greeted by grand vocals, frenzied strings, ominous chants and a feeling of stress, panic, and defeat. Fatalis whooped EVERYONE'S ass on release, and his first theme reflects the dominance of the Dragon that burned an entire kingdom to the ground overnight. His second theme plays after he burns away the blockage on the courtyard, exposing the last stand of Shrade, and the tune shifts. No longer the dominant, oppressive music of a man-hating legend, but of a mythic tale between a dragon and a hunter, equal in power. Fatalis's theme is still present, but the panic is replaced by courage, swooping melodies in tune with seas of fire and the impact of blade, bone, and bullets on the thick black scales of the Wyvern of Destiny. After the Dragonator, Shrade's greatest tool, is used to bring Fatalis low, the tune again shifts. Gone is Fatalis's theme, and it's instead replaced by the OG Proof of a Hero. You are humanity's last chance, the hero of both worlds, and Fatalis understands this. It singes the arena with scorching breath and wings of ruin, but after perseverance, the Hunter stands triumphant, the unkillable killed. One of the reasons I keep fighting Fatalis (other than his eyes) is how well the music goes with the fight. It's truly a masterpiece of a fight.

The smallest detail people miss: The armour isn't overpowered for the sake of it. It's to perpetuate the loop of rebirthing Fatalis. You're so tempted to use the armour because it's so good. This in turn will start to manipulate you and encase you inside. Thus, the parasitic nature of Fatalis begins and he starts infecting you like corticeps fungus.

Fatalis is an Egregore created from the sinful actions of the ancient civilization, a thoughtform given sentience and agency from the pain and suffering generated from the forbidden act. Fatalis is a self aware idea (The idea being evil) and thus has become the abstracta of evil itself. Fatalis never truly dies because Ideas can't die, as long as there are people still around to remember it. As long as humans continue to believe in the idea of Fatalis/Evil, Fatalis will always resurrect itself even after we kill it. Fatalis is immortal, a god. This is why the guild has kept a total wrap on all black dragon info, they hoped that the idea of Fatalis would fade from the memories of the public, preventing the monster from ever manifesting again. This did work for a long while, which would explain why It hasn't been seen in generations. But then Alatreon showed up generations later, which sparked the memories of the existance of the black dragons. That lone spark was enough for Fatalis to Manifest itself back to life. Now that the cat is out of the bag again, the best the guild can do now is try to keep it contained at Schrade, it can't go on to destroy civilization if we keep it in a perpetual state of "death". Our hunters now have to continue to hunt it over and over again, forever. just a bit of head canon.

Well considering their words of "Fatalis not originally meaning anything more than a natural entity", I think your headcanon is actually pretty spot on. Kind of like how Nerg is nature's way of maintaining balance, it seems fitting that Fatalis is a monster formed by the arrogance of man, as immortal as fear itself.

This may be one of my favorite fights in Monster Hunter history. Honestly throughout World, I've constantly recognized how well they did with making the series more approachable, but by doing that in some ways they lost what made Monster Hunter so special to me. In previous games the higher tier G Rank fights were incredibly difficult and it was actually pretty unlikely that you'd succeed on your first attempt. In World and Iceborne I never really doubted that I'd win. I triple carted on a few fights here and there, but for the most part I thought the games were pretty easy and you could play pretty recklessly and still succeed. Fatalis changed all that. You have to respect him if you want to win. I honestly don't think I've fought a boss in any video game that was so epic and satisfying. It's honestly on the same tier as some of the hardest Dark Souls bosses. Obviously not every monster needs to be like this, but I hope we get more challenges like this in Rise.

Yawn. Previous games were janky as heck and G rank was locked to multiplayer scaling, that's artificial difficulty. You also got better over time, this isn't your first MH game. MHW did away with a lot of jank and brought many QoL improvements (until that clutch claw farce); its difficulty was fine and fair.

I just wish we could've transitioned within different sections of Castle Schrade, like if after Fatalis supernovas one part of the castle to a crisp he would fly off into another area of the castle and you have to follow him until you get deeper and deeper inside and you get a chance to explore what once was the glorious Castle Schrade.

I knew about his lore but I never saw him do that pin move where his is trying to melt you into him, thats so cool. I also like how his breath attack basically shows you how he defeated Schrade, because very often you hear about monsters that destroyed kingdoms in general in a single day/night and think "Yeah right, sounds scary but I doubt it was possible for the actual monster to do that" and then you see Fatalis breath attack and you are like "Oh...yeah...".

Honestly the thing I love the most about this guy is that he is a DRAGON! There’s elder dragons that have the 4 legs and 2 wings but they don’t exactly look like your traditional dragons but they have these elemental abilities excluding nergigante but fatalis looks like how’d you imagine a dragon to look and he’s the most immensely strong thing you’ll ever fight! MHW was my first monster hunter so I never got to fight this guy but I watched videos about him (mainly ragegamings lore video) but when I first faced him, I got where his story comes from. Super Kichiro I actually beat him today 😂 I was just focusing on breaking his horns because I need the evil eyes. I managed to break them both after 25+ mins so I knew I was getting one eye from it and I was going to abandon the quest. Then I noticed the skull over his icon on the mini map and I hadn’t been able to get him to this stage before and I decided to try and kill him. I saw that the timer was on the last dial so I knew I had about a minute to finish it and I was on my last life so I got really nervous about killing him. Then he flew into the air and I got annoyed because I couldn’t hit him properly and then “agitator has worn off” popped up so I knew I could flinch shot him. I grappled onto his head, hit him so he was facing a wall and then fired my slinger ammo and sent him crashing to the ground and that killed him. I honestly couldn’t believe I finally killed him and there aren’t any words for how I felt after that!!!

Iceborne to alatreon is supposed to prepare you, the hunter, for this final battle. Fatalis is one of the most powerful monsters in the MH lore, it makes sense for him to be this level of difficulty. If you've been playing the game always depending on SoSing/being carried, you're not learning the monster attack patterns. I always say that the best way to learn patterns is to fight the thing until you do. Fight fatalis solo first until you get a great understanding of his mechanics, moves, and ways to punish him. Last of all, never give up. You will get through him.

3:20 I'll add the little knowledge of Fatalis you tried to say. Before now the humans of the world gained such great technology for hunting that we become over zealous and started hunting without reason causing so much death and destruction. It got so bad that Fatalis grew so hateful and wrathful that he destroy civilizations. To insult those who used monsters as weapons and armor, Fatalis killed them and then melted both the person and the armor into his body creating an armor of humans just like the humans did to the monster. Extra notes: It caused so much damage that humanity was mostly ruined and realized they're just as important to the world and it's ecosystem as any monster so we made the guild to monitor and help the environment... So in the long run... Thanks Fatalis you gave us a job? Also the Equal Dragon Weapon isn't 100% canon, but with the the info in the games and even stories showing one can modify and create artificial parts for a monster. It's very likely that it could exist in the world of monster hunter.

I've failed more times against Fatalis than Alatreon already. But when I finally beat Fatalis, I felt something that I never felt with Alatreon back when I conquered him too- Alatreon is good, no doubt. But it gets frustrating when the DPS check just isn't reached and it kinda makes the whole fight fall off for me.. Granted, nowadays hitting that check isn't as hard now the that fight is more familiar- I felt relief, and just glad it was over when I killed him. I was excited, but I also didn't want to do the fight ever again. I didn't have fun. It was a frustrating and stressful feeling throughout- But Fatalis was different.. No matter how many times we couldn't kill him in time, or our teammates carted, I still left wanting more. So I killed him, and I was estatic! It was one of the best feelings I've had in this game. (Was using gunlance for both the offensive and defensive capabilities, plus it's my main) I killed him once, and then immediately after I asked my friend if he wanted to do it again and he replied with, "Hell yes." Mechanically, the fight is absolutely amazing. Lore-wise, the fight is just so cool to experience. To see him trying to melt the hunter into his armor? I was both stunmed, suprised and in awe. Hell, I wanted him to do it again so I could see it again! I was dumbfounded! And don't even get me started on visuals.. The visuals? Well, I can only say that I'll never get sick of seeing the towering, destroyed kingdom in the background that I'm greeted with each time I fly in. Fatalis is absolutely one of the most fun, and visually appealing fights I've ever had in any game that I've played. I'll never forget the experiences I've had, and the belly laughs I got while seeing a dual blades getting sniped by a full-power fireball on the cannon he was loading! Thank you for the content Rurikkan. And thanks so much for the development team who made this fight come to life and made it so much fun and satisfying mechanically. I love you both.❤

Having watched classic Fatalis fights (not doing them myself, though my playthrough of MHGU is getting close to him I believe) I remember thinking that the one thing I wanted was for him to stack up to his lore. Because one thing everyone agreed on was that he didn't really live up to it...his fight was more boring than interesting, and for the canonically strongest monster in the MH universe, a lackluster fight just was a massive shame. I am still in awe of the craftsmanship of this fight. My usual quartet could barely make it to third phase, solo wasn't much better...but crucially, my wife and I never could really proclaim we weren't having fun. We'd get frustrated, sure...the first time I got him to his second blast of fire in his third phase, when the information around how many novas he had was inconsistent, and then I timed out, I thought I'd been robbed of victory at the last second...that hurt for a bit. But slowly seeing myself improve, slowly realizing I was understanding his moves, slowly creeping closer to the finish line...reorganizing my build to handle things as I saw them become problems...it never felt like I was fighting something that was a slog. It was actively fun. And not only that, it felt like I was fighting something that could have wiped out Schrade. Not a kind of derpy, lethargic dragon that was squatting in some ruins, but a true destroyer of worlds. I loved it. And finally attaining my first victory, I was actually speechless for a while I was so overwhelmed with the adrenaline from succeeding. The Commander's voice line only aided it (seriously, for all the bickering about whether the English voices were good, the Commander's voice line at the end of the Special Assignment perfectly captured my emotions at that moment). The MH team had my respect long before this, but they truly did go above and beyond for this hunt...and I'm just glad I got to be along for the ride.

My four-man team managed to clear Alatreon within 12 hours his release. We tried for four hours straight after his release but couldn't manage to seal the deal. We watched others complete the hunt and then came back with better builds and managed to topple the bastard. So I had the expectation of Fatalis to be even harder than Alatreon, and boy was I correct. Our four man would wipe when he had blue flames and called it a night after 5 hours trying to clear him. I then spent 12 hours the next day hunting in duos, quads, and then solo just trying to learn his attacks and patterns and tweaking my build. On day three I utilized the cannon and Ghilie Mantle strat with Heavy Artillery and gave it everything I had. Still wasn't able to slay him. At this point I began doubting myself and believing that I had finally met my match, that this monster would be too much for me to overcome. I watched more people clear him and it stirred something in me. I had to beat him. I could not rest until I did it. On my first successful run, I managed to slay him with 40 seconds left on the clock while gunning him down on the Roaming Ballistae. I almost cried when the Commander's voice came up. I have never been so determined to beat something and the sense of elation was something like 5 times more than what I got from Alatreon. Kudos to Capcom for the amazing fight!

The only thing I'd ever said about this fight, is that they ramped it up to 100 with this thing. I have been playing since the 2004 release of the PS2 Monster Hunter, and as someone who was playing before palicoes, before blue sharpness, before a lot of the conveniences that are taken for granted nowadays... they did Fatalis properly. He was so scary in the original game that most people refused to use melee weaopns against him, opting to use HBG with a cluster storm. While he may be a bit more viable to face in melee now, he's still a terrifying creature worthy of wiping out the kingdom of Schrade.

Someone mentioned already but a small part is the music. When the OG Proof of a Hero theme kicked in after the dragonator I legit get choked up cos I’ve been following the series so long and it’s such an uplifting moment like keep pushing! The mood shifts and you get inspired. Such a good theme! Same with Lao Shan final phase and other hunts doing the same thing.

The music is another aspect that can be lumped into all this, and the original Proof of a Hero playing against when you get him on the ropes is such a nice touch in that regard as well. This video is amazing and, why your history on Fatalis lore is a little rusty like forgetting how the Equal Dragon Weapon was something that’s essentially cut content from the first game never made canonical and just put in an artbook, you know your stuff.

If I could honestly turn back time and go back to the first time I fought Fatalis and saw all of the amazing stuff all over again I would. Everything about this special assignment was just beyond amazing. One thing I want to mention was the first time you see Fatalis and his music theme begins. I've always thought it sounds like and feels like "The End of the World". Even Fatalis' sound design is just purely epic like when you hear the deep basses and high shrieks from his roars (especially the very first roar). Loved everything about this hunt, Capcom couldn't have done better!

That's really interesting about Fatalis hating humanity for what they do to monsters and him turning the tables by wearing hunters for his armor. In a game that is up to this point totally happy-go-lucky about saying "go kill 12 of this monster until you get this gem you need to make this armor piece, it's really strong!" it's an unsettling bit of self-reflection to consider the process from the point of view of a monster. Like this isn't just a mindless beast that we're defending ourselves from, Fatalis is very aware of what the hunters are doing and is bringing divine retribution in the name of all the creatures we've slain in our never-ending quest for dominance and power. I love that subtle layer of storytelling, it's like the writers consciously train the player to hunt without thought and only here at the very end slap us with a reminder that our actions still have consequences

Admittedly, I allowed the heaviness of the gameplay for this encounter outweigh (for the moment anyway) my typical, fond appreciation for the artistic aspect of, not only bringing lore to "life", but bringing the past into the present while also contextualizing it convincingly. It's unfortunate how easy it is for us to take that for granted, because it's even easier for them (the creators) to get it wrong by fumbling at one (if not several, or many) crucial points of communicating ideas and concepts (especially fantastical) to an audience. It took me experiencing the satisfaction -the unparalleled accomplishment- of killing Fatalis a couple times before I allowed myself to zoom out to see the bigger picture that is the love and detail that was put into this encounter. I had to remind myself not to let my gripes with the gameplay unfairly bleed into the cinematic aspect of what Capcom pulled off here. 'Cause I was definitely at that place of blind dismissiveness, thanks to shamefully being boxed around like a ragdoll. Thanks for highlighting this perspective, the team behind it deserves at least this much.

What I truly love about this fight, despite getting my butt kicked so dang hard and yet to beat it, is just how well they’ve captured the image and feel of a true Dragon. We’ve seen so many wyverns, and elder dragons who seem dragon like, but then you face the ‘Black Dragons’ and find that everything you had faced don’t even come close to these living draconic gods. This fight gives you the feeling that you are going to die if you don’t do something fast, and every time Fatalis stands on his hind legs, you just know that he’s mocking you only to slither around on all fours as you run for dear life. Then finally he unleashes his infernal breath while you merely take cover as if the whole world is ending around you. A true Dragon through and through and I find it the most beautiful thing ever.

I really like this fight and rank it waaaaaaaaaaaaay above all the others because it somehow feels like the old way they made monster fights. A lot more "turns" taken between the hunter and the monster. He attacks, you stop attacking, reposition and counter. Small windows for attack opportunities is how I remember the old world fights. You didn't get to use your full combo of your weapon unless you made the monster fall. This fight really rewards you for learning his moveset and punishing him with every opening you can get. Despite how time consuming it was to fight him and farm his set, it felt all worth it because you felt accomplished and you felt like you became a better hunter.

I'll be honest. I haven't had this much fun fighting a dragon since Gregory in Dragon's Dogma. It's you and up to three friends against what amounts to a angry god in the flesh and it's GLORIOUS! Some might think that gathering entire countries to fight this thing as hyperbole, but stop and consider this. How quickly can he cart you, and how often do you cart when fighting him? Now imagine this is real. Each cart is a fighter dead or disabled as a new one takes it's place. Never more than four at a time to prevent the beast from killing everyone at the same time. And Fatalis could turn a whole damn army to cinders (lore has him burning the entire known world to ash in the span of three days). Beat the beast, or the world as you know it DIES. It's a painfully gorgeous experience. Just remember to take off your fatalis armor at the end of a hunt. Rumors say that stuff drives you insane before melding with your body to create a brand new Fatalis...

Just wanted to add that Alatreon brought comfort to elemental weapons thanks to his elemental conversion. But, I'm not gonna lie that I wanted something like it turns the element of your weapons to a different element if you slot it in or it randomly shifts the element of your weapon as you fight. His weapons could have also been multiple elements on each weapon, imagine hold a weapon that had all five elements. Or true crit element as a two piece and maybe element conversion a 3 or 4 piece. Would've been cool and broken, just like Fatalis weapons and armor.

In Monster Hunter 1 it was relatively impossible to melee Fatalis, because almost all weapons bounced off of him. So the main approach for that Fatalis was to sticky/clust bomb him as you shot ballistas as well. You basically kept dodging the fireball sniping and keep at it. The fight was also set so that if you broke one horn and time ran out; if you posted the quest again the horn was already broken and you had to "finish the fight". It was really scary though, because gunning was almost one shot cart. That said, there were guys in certain groups that were totally able to melee him, but at that time it required specific weapons that not everyone had. As an example the Japanese version of the game didn't have Dual Blades, which was one of the main weapons to use against Fatalis thanks to demon mode. But it tells you quite a lot when green sharpness is the max you got.

This Fatalis encounter was a labour of love due to a good number of overlapping coincidences such as game's success, Capcom's willingness to remove the shroud of mystery over the black dragons(or at least Fatalis), being a final title update/proper send-off, as a reaction to how the fans reacted to a small render of Fatalis, and as a nostalgia hitter. I mean, I think all of these things made the main MH team so in love with making this monster, this fight, and the Fatalis as an idea as a whole that the passion just poured in and in and they made sure no detail was left out with regards to established lore, movesets, fairness of fight, and rewards, etc; in my opinion, they wanted to make sure to make the best possible send-off they could before moving on to the next game.

He doesn't stand on his hind legs to mock humanity. One could say he's doing that to display his armor proudly to anyone who dares to challenge him. Because Fatalis is old and has been dealing with your kind for centuries. It knows you are descendants of his fallen foes, so he does that as a way to warn you of your fate should you challenge him. Or it could just be that his center of mass is closer to his hind legs rather than right in the middle of the torso. Fatalis himself prefers to move around on his hindlegs, as he has no neutral moving animation while on all fours and would rather walk when moving around casually.

I believe that it's very likely that shvara ishvalda's fight with you must have somehow reached fatalis. Too much happened after that. Nergigante leeched off the corpse, becomming the most powerfull elderdragon that we had seen untill then, at the same time a mature safi'jiva rose up. I believe Nergigante and Alatreon were attracted to this power because they knew fatalis was returning. Perhaps fatalis is the entire reason everything was set in motion the way it did in the story. Additionally, we are now hungering for his armor, which will feed off of the hunters and eventually cause fatalis to come back.

I will say that the fight - which I haven't cleared yet - feels weirdly... fairer than Alatreon. The Alatreon fight is good, don't mistake me there. After I got comfortable with that fight and its mechanics, it isn't as hard as it initially seemed. Fatalis - and I'm certain that I'll eat these words in frustration before having a breakthrough victory - feels a bit less gimmicky on the outset because its just you, your fellow huners, and a big, angry fire boi. There are no elemental damage checks to worry about, and sure there are one-shots, but you just have to run fast enough to get into cover. Yeah, you have to break the horns to have a chance in heck at surviving phase three, but "smack monster in head" is drilled into you over and over on the tutorial from the special assignment, so I don't see that as a big problem. As for the armor set... I'm not really that bothered by it being super powerful. Does that break the game? Well, yes, but seeing as this is the last update we're getting for Iceborne, I interpret it as the devs giving us a thank you for playing the game. As sort of, "you took everything we could throw at you, so go have fun." Just my opinion on the matter I suppose. And really, since so much of MHW (or any MH game) is about setting your own goals, I don't see it having a hugely negative impact on the game. I'm sure it will be the new meta, but I've never been a big proponent of following the meta anyway.

The new Fatalis meta is insane. Did a couple T3 investigations with full meta builds, seen multiple other people run around with fatty builds and seeing Savage Jho getting ragdolled actually made me feel bad for him, even tho I usually hate him for being an annoying party crasher. One problem now is that capture quests in multiplayer fail more often because the monster dies way too fast.

Kulve Taroth was awesome, Safi was supreme with that battle ost and magnitude of the fight, Alatreon was really special and intense (his sounds were cool af). Now Fatalis is a fine art, terrifying battle, impressive battlefield and mechanics, synergy fight/ballistae/cannons/cover, you have to use everything the game offers, ghillie, smoke bomb, 2 to 3 gear sets, farcast, dash juice, mega armor potion, learn how to spam dive, go learn about his movesets over and over again until you are positioning yourself without thinking. I have over 1400 hours in, and only now i learned how the dive only works when u dive away from the monster, only now i finally used heavy artillery and only now i had to prepare more than 1 gear set for the same hunt, clutch cannon, sleep ammo set for dragonator and main set. This all just makes me think the game should have more hunts like this (makes zorah magdaros fight even worse in comparison).

The Biggest change was the map of Castle Shcrade was changed from the old open courtyard with 2 areas seperated with the gate was changed to the more ramparts looking map we face him on in 4U. He gained 2 new attacks, 1 is the flamethrower attack that Teostra and Lunastra were previously known for having. And het got a new attack where he would shoot out a line of blast powder that after a a small delay would explode for massive damage. Only differences

1st Phase music is the Fatalis with some new arrangement (adding vocal) like Xeno to Safi. 2nd Phase is Zorah siege with new arrangement (add vocal) Dragonator is the music time! Proof of Hero our national Anthem for MH. As For some design I notice like uh... Alatreon on the firebreath attack has some "dragon element" trace into it this one has like blacksmoke trace and they make it so it gives like "really hot" feeling compared to Teostra/Luna. Plus the blue flame if you haven't destroy the head seems like really gonna destroy stuffs.
