Ever since I watched Defending Your Life when I was 12 in the early 90s, Albert Brooks has been my favourite comedian. I happened to really discover Dave around that time too, just as he was making the move to CBS. Both were essential in the creation of my own sensibilities back then. Though I've seen many of these before, it's great to have them in one place now. Thank you so much, as always!

That first appearance on Letterman is absolutely epic. Three full segments of nonstop killer material. You will never see anyone do three segments anymore. The frenetic energy he had was unreal. And he was trying to finance Modern Romance, which is maybe his best work barring Defending Your Life. A master at the top of his game.

Brooks & Letterman interviews never left me unfulfilled. Together they have such a rapport and chemistry it's a genuine pleasure to watch. If Johnny Carson had anything to do with handing over the Tonight Show to LENO rather than LETTERMAN, I will undoubtedly lose ALL respect for Johnny Carson. From what I've heard and remember, I was under the distinct impression that LETTERMAN had CARSON'S blessing even prior to his final show. In my humble opinion, I honestly feel that LETTERMAN is more entertaining than LENO. No ifs, ands or buts about it. Could somebody shed some facts regarding this issue with an unbiased statement, not opinion. 'Ppreciate muchly!

@Bill_Woo

@@barbaralewis4790 Some of us who easily "kept up" while thinking as fast as he did recognized that 70% to 80% was just "fill", and "got" all of the 70% as well as the 20% to 30% that was creditably "clever". I know I did. Besides, it would be ridiculous (or lame) to label anything as "incoherent" simply because one couldn't "keep up" or understand the choices and references. For example RW might say, and I'm just making this up instantly, and could deliver it all rapidfire just like RW: "I just flew in this morning--" [assume lame Leno sarcastic expression, clearly mimicking a lame standup comic] "and boy are my arms tired--" [turn 90 degrees and point to the sky] "Hey boss! The PLANE! The PLANE!". Now those that "get" the references go "Wow, RW is amazing, how does he do that!" But there are hyper six year olds that can deliver that, and spontaneously . I think the best way to put it is Albert's relentlessly sharp and relevant, relentlessly witty, rapidfire delivery is more akin to Letterman's. RW's is more akin to silly self-adulating Craig Ferguson. IMO.

@@Bill_Wooa long, long time ago Kurt Russell, who made early movies with both, said that Robin Williams had a fast memory because he could draw from his large cache of bits, but Sylvester Stallone was wittier. (Those aren’t his exact words, but the point he was trying to make).
