Oh my goodness. This was hilarious. I came here after waking up thinking of Super Dave Osborne. I’d heard that he died and I couldn’t figure out why I didn’t hear of it. I looked it up and realized Bob Einstein died on my dad’s passing last year. Then I discovered he was brother to Albert Brooks and that... ladies and gentlemen (this silver lining) is how I arrived at this gem of a piece of hilarity. ☺️

Likewise. I've seen his movies, and even his early video appearances on SNL back in the 70s. The piano thing is "brand new information" to me.

Funneeeeee! Of course, I'm prejudiced. I love everything by Albert Brooks! You can walk away from one of his movies without laughing out loud once and still think that this was the funniest movie you've seen in years! His first movie, Real Life is a classic. The precursor to all the stupid reality shows that clog up the TV these days. If you haven't seen it, it's perfect and right on the money! Find it and watch!

"Real Life" is right up there with "Lost in America." Now that one is a true classic comedy film---written, directed and starring Albert Brooks. Note: His real name is Albert Einstein. (Honestly.)

Several 'Flip' DVD box sets of highlights, and edited half-hour episodes were released a decade or so back. There all out of print now. Since the maximum resolution for this clip is 480p, it was most likely "ripped" from one of those DVD sets.

It's a classic bit and I love it. But one thing is clear - although this is being performed for a live audience, its obvious that they laid in the sound of bigger laughs so that it would seem to play better on tv. The people we can see are barely reacting and I wonder if Albert Brooks really appreciated having this "enhanced" in post-production.

Have you seen his picture 'Real Life'? It's quite insightful: broadcast media is unyielding and awesome; it is folly to presume the film will reveal the vision for the picture automatically. The film is only a record of the production. You have to produce an insight, not merely direct a vision. If the ultimate goal is to enlighten the audience, he would surely agree the best course in doing so would be to take advantage of every available means. The commercial breaks are louder than the show. The applause is louder than the show. They're still talking
