Great insights. Too often we default to creating our own doctrine rather than following Biblical truths.

In 325, Orthodoxy was certainly there, 318 Catholic Bishops, all who believed that through the words of their consecration at Mass, the bread and wine transformed into the resurrected Christ just as Jesus says "This Is My Body." As younger man, St Athanasius was there, Catholic Bishop of Alexandria. His words some years later reflect the Orthodoxy of the Faith passed down by the apostles. Those prayers and invocations are the words of consecration by the priest. _“You will see the Levites bringing the loaves and a cup of wine, and placing them on the table. So long as the prayers and invocations have not yet been made, it is mere bread and a mere cup. But when the great and wonderous prayers have been recited, then the bread becomes the body and the cup the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ…When the great prayers and holy supplications are sent up, the Word descends on the bread and the cup, and it becomes His body.”_ Athanasius, Sermon to the Newly Baptized, PG 26, 1325 (ante A.D. 373).
