Doug clearly gave the most lines to the ones he felt had the most talent. If anything, he was TOO nice. Marzgurl was only given a job because she lost the "Nostalgia Chick" contest, and Doug decided to give her and Chick with the Goggles a slot anyway. When Spoony brought Brad Jones on, Linkara's billing got knocked down a little bit, and there was a clear yet unspoken tier list that Doug was too nice to admit to.

Doug was a man in the wrong place, at the wrong time, with psychopaths who’d rather warp something potentially decent into a cesspit.

The moral of the Channel Awesome drama: never trust anything that LordKat, Obscurus Lupa, or Linkara have to say on anything.

Also worth noting: Spoony did an interview with the Excom developers AFTER the Betrayal thing. Not saying just trust anything Spoony says, but Lordkat's claim that killed his chances is laughable at best. It didn't even ruin Spoony's chances with the games developers.

I just watched Rob's commentary on To Boldly Flee. Hearing his version of how the whole "rape" scene went down was kind of interesting. Here's more-or-less what he said: So, apparently Rob originally wrote it as kind of a “scary” scene (with her being assimilated), which then turns into something funny when Film Brain hears them and thinks they’re having sex. The joke being that the sounds he hears are so goofy and cartoony, and it’s so obvious she’s being assimilated, but he mistakes it for sex anyway. Then, somewhere down the line, Doug got hold of the scene, and added in lines for Lindsay. From his point of view, it was to make it more clear why Film Brain would think they were having sex, but according to Rob, they ended up making the scene come across more “rapey”. Lindsay & Linkara, who were both somewhat upset about it, went to Rob, to talk to him about it. Rob assured Lindsay that he wouldn’t let the scene come out if it came across like she was being raped, and that he would personally edit the scene himself if he had to - which he did. He replaced Doug’s original sound effects (which apparently just reinforced the whole “rape” misunderstanding) with tech sounds from Transformers and stuff. When he talked to Doug about it, Doug’s response was apparently something along the lines of “I guess I’m just too naïve. I don’t get what the problem is, because I don’t think that way…” (though to be fair to Doug, listening to his own commentary, it sounds like he also had his doubts about how the scene was sounding). They did end up sending the final cut of the scene to Lindsay for her approval, even offering to cut it completely if she wasn’t satisfied with it, and she said “I don’t think it’s particularly funny, but I have no real problem with it as it is now.” The funny thing is, according to Rob, Lindsay actually calmed down about it fairly quickly, saying “I trust you” when he assured her he wouldn’t let a scene she was uncomfortable with come out. Linkara, however, wouldn’t let it drop for the entire shoot. Apparently, he kept on saying “You know, Doug wrote a rape scene!” According to Rob, he sounded “like a brother tattling to his parents”. He just kept going on and on about it, saying things like “This may violate my feminist principles” (lmfao). Rob tried to reason with him, but he kept going on about it, at one point saying that even the very act of what he is doing (assimilating her) is a form of rape, to which Rob basically responded by saying “Well, blame the writers of Next Generation then! THEY’RE the ones who wrote the Borg that way!”

Came to this channel for Spec Ops and dunking on TLoU2, stayed for Berserk retrospectives and reviews on movies I never knew existed. I’ve never dug deep into Channel Awesome and I’m now glad I never did. I will be giving Northman and Berserk a try because of you, so please keep up the great work!

The Channel Awesome Lore is embarrassingly the most autistically involved I've ever been with an internet community. I was there from the start. There's been a ton of good retellings of the event with varying quality. This is without a doubt the best. You speak as an outsider of the community and for that reason or another it allows you to form your own interpretation of that events with more clarity rather than letting internal biases get in the way. This is my favorite video of the event and if I could like it a million times I would.

Channel Awesome. A big circlejerk of backstabbers and liars, maintaining a façade of friendliness and innocence until you look into them with even the slightest bit of skepticism and scrutiny.

Glad I'm not the only one who was skeptical of the Change The Channel document. For a while it seemed like everybody in every Discord server I was in had swallowed that Kool-Aid without hesitation, which made Doubting Toms like myself none too popular. _Literally_ all I was asking was for people to acknowledge the inconsistencies in the complaints and simply reserve judgment on these ANONYMOUS testimonies until concrete proof was presented, and apparently that was enough to put me on thin ice with some of the admins of those servers. I don't know what it is about unsubstantiated accusations that make people act like tribalistic animals, but it's quite a thing to behold.

Spoony is so tragic because he legitimately could have been one of the biggest, if not THE biggest reviewer on KZfaq, but then he had his mental breakdown because he made too much money, and was too successful. It's just funny how LordKat of all people is like "Yeah, I could have been huge if Spoony hadn't embarrassed me," because, bruh, a big part of the reason LordKat is even relevant is because of Spoony's outburst.

But, she apparently an actual Voice-Actor that won an award recently. Oh and she's super Breadtube. 5 mins ago as of writing this she tweeted "And whatever a Black Fan feels is probably true to their experience" (Because that makes sense and absolutely isn't playing with fire.) She spoke out in favor of Vic, her career would be over before it began. She comes out supporting Chris, she might get some extra work. It may just be flatout networking for her. In her sitation it's more advantageous to be on Sabbot's side then on Vic's. And if Vic does eventually succeed in holding everyone slandering him accountable, she's so small no one would care.

In some other reality Spoony is still sane and makes great content. And no one knows who LordKat is in that reality as well.

Spoony recently did an interview with the actor who played Curtis in Phatasmagoria 2, and he seemed to be in better shape physically and mentally than he was, in which he talks briefly about a video he's intending to make on some garbage D&D movie. He's also been streaming again, and while I only checked in on a couple, he seems in better spirits in them and isn't yelling at his fans anymore. I think there's a sliver of hope for him, though he's still tweeting way too fucking often. I hope Musk really does destroy twitter so Noah will have no choice but not to use it. Fully aware this is probably just wishful thinking, but honestly I'm just happy he doesn't seem suicidaly depressed anymore and blackmailing people who're worried about him with it. Might feel different if I was one of the people whose money he ran away with kek.

My initial reaction to the document was never in malice to Doug and being confused by how people painted that one scene as ‘crepe’ which, yes; isn’t even what’s happening. I’ve said this before but JonTron being mass community disowned was a bandaid being ripped off compared to the CA downfall. Firstly, thank you for calling out LordKat about Spoony. When I heard his rant I thought he was a man with anger issues with blaming others for his failings. In his streams he came across as an unpleasant person. Even if it's true that LordKat lost the interview because of Spoony, that rant would have killed off any opportunities. If I had worked in PR and heard that rant I would have blacklisted LordKat. Whenever I watched Obscurus Lupa I always felt something off about her. Her persona was always stiff and forced. She wasn't that entertaining or interesting and I avoided her videos. I avoided quite a few CA producers because they didn't have the personality and some became obsessed with their storylines, things I would skip because it was so cringe. Spoony was one of the few that made the storyline watchable and he was naturally the funniest. One of the pettiest complaints in the Change the Channel document was complaining about Disneycember. They complained that Doug was posting a video a day and hogging all the limelight. But it became an annual tradition, and some people looked forward to it. A lot of people who were in CA have moved on. Some are embarrassed by their videos. Mathew Buck hasn't done BMB for years, Lindsay Ellis does video essays, and Mike Jeavons just makes videos about tat and fast food. I like Mathew Buck's Projector videos and I find some of Lindsay Ellis' essays interesting like her Hobbit Trilogy, but I wouldn't want to meet her.

Thank you for giving some love to Brad Jones. He is one of the few to make it out of channel awesome unscathed, even if his audience is dwindling nowadays. His content has stayed consistent for well over a decade, and he's great friends with Doug to this day. For real, they still do videos together every once and a while, and they have a great chemistry. They're both super excited whenever they record videos together.

Channel Awesome is like looking at Lovecraftian god, you look at its eyes for too long and you start going mad and write on the walls saying “The Review Must Go On”

It's a drag how Channel Awesome imploded on itself with all the pettiness and rotten things going on behind the scenes. Doug and his current team are still doing well so everything mostly turned out all right in the end.

I still watch Nostalgia Critic videos here and there. I got into them circa 2016-2017, after all of the drama had faded and Doug had returned with a better format with some of his skits. (There is a clear delineation between his good skits and the earlier, crap ones) I like to watch him every once in a while just to be reminded of that time of crass innocence I had about the internet in those days. Things were different, it was before politics had overtaken everything; heck even newer KZfaqrs like Nerdrotic and Critical Drinker hadn't shown up at that point, I was there when they first got started. Doug Walker has rare thing among people on the internet; a sense of passion and optimism that even their negative persona cannot fully sideline or diminish. I think that is why I will remember Nostalgia Critic thirty years from now, and any other of the Channel Awesome will just disappear from memory. Strange thing, the internet is.

Honestly someday you should do a video on the Channel Awesome document years later and explain why it fell apart and such because a dedicated video on the subject would probably spread farther. There are people to this day who still treat it like gospel not knowing many of its contributors lied, or disavowed it heck most of the document doesn't hold well to scrutiny

Somebody linked me this video, and I'm so glad I watched it. I was one of those few who always looked at the ChangeTheChannel shenanigans with a skeptical view, just because I was also aware of how skeevy a lot of the involved parties were. Doug Walker was and is by no means perfect and I fully believe he mismanaged things, but the fact that everybody complaining about him had sketchy histories themselves made me question how truthful the accusations were. The part where you brought up how the document tried to throw Channel Awesome under the bus for the Jew Wario situation, all while running defense for Holly who directly shielded Jew Wario for years, really opened my eyes for how full of crap that document really was. It was pettiness, pure and simple, and the fact that Doug and Brad have actually maintained their audiences while AngryJoe, Linkara, Lindsey, and everybody else have turned into LOLcows really speaks to how much they really did need Doug.

It's sad that if someone searches Channel Awesome, you're going to first get a ton of videos from 5 years ago of everybody giving their 2 cents based on a lot of false and exaggerated claims and takes from people who just seemed to not like Doug Walker, or the fact that the guy was KZfaq famous at the time. But that's the internet for you, anybody that is successful at something might as well paint a bulleye on their back, because there are going to be people who are looking for any indiscretion to make a big deal of and get you cancelled.

Doug's work has the same naive, surreal quality of a porn parody with all the sex scenes cut out, or finding published copies of Chris Chan's "Sonichu" in a mainstream book store. It's just interesting how many youtube commentary channels have made a career on talking about Channel Awesome's body of work (behind their back) like they aren't fully aware how much all of it sucks.

I wonder how much Spoony's self-inflicted downfall was because of how Channel Awesome threw him under the bus. If I was in his shoes and that kind of shit got thrown at me from people I trust, I'd probably burn out on life too.

The document to me was seeing a lot of stuff being justified for the hate of the content, but I questioned why the people who hated it stayed for so long. As the house of cards came down, I look back and go "man, it could've been worse. I could've been Quinton Reviews"

I never trusted the CTC, it seemed all so petty. I'm no Doug Stan but what shocks me is how anyone takes any of their claims seriously. Also Linkara is a full blown lolcow, you really should review his compilation of skits or that audio drama he made. That would be some funny shit to watch.

The entire reason I think the document is fake is because of one person who's been silent through all of it: Guru Larry. Guru Larry is still on Channel Awesome, even though he though he gets more views now then Doug does and genuinely doesn't need it. He's even recently made jokes about how he's going to be the last person on the site. If everything in that document were true, why would Guru Larry risk everything keeping his name attached to the Channel Awesome brand even when he gains nothing from it anymore? He has everything to lose and nothing to gain. That alone tells me he doesn't even think document is accurate and he's one of the actual channel awesome people. Also apparently the only one that's not an unhinged weirdo. That fact is why I just his choices on it. If he were a sex-pest with skeletons in his closet, they would have already came out.

As someone who ventured through this insanity back when it was TGWTG, I can honestly say I enjoyed these three specials, along with Linkara's special as well. To the point that while I love watching videos like these that rip them apart, I know I can still rewatch all four and not feel like I'm wasting my time. Course, I likely would also be playing a game too, but still. I guess it's just me being a victim of *nostalgia.* And knowing the in-jokes and history helped too.

Linkara is so obsessed with lore that he can't jettison any of it, even when it's tied to poeple he no longer wants anything to do with. His film is literally a sequel to the last CA film and can't even stand on its own.

I remember the Lupa/Todd/Chick love triangle being a recurring joke on Todd and Chick's channels. I wonder how much of TBF's stupid long runtime was because it was trying to play in all the various plot threads from all this other bullshit going on with the site. In a lot of ways, I think that was Doug learning his lesson from what you criticized Kickassia for, namely, trying to make it feel more ensemble and less like a 2hr nostalgia critic episode. The problem is that everybody on CA was so far up their own asses that attempting to juggle all this stuff and make everybody feel "included" was going to always result in a jumbled mess. However, I do seem to remember that the anniversary movies were fairly well received by the fans. Less so as they went on, but definitely enough that I remember people being disappointed when they decided to stop doing them.

I'm glad this wasn't a "Doug evil bad puppy killer monster" review that's been done so many times already *cough* ralphthemoviemaker *cough. If you look a the doc with any level of cognitive thought most of the shit falls apart immediately. It shows how many parrots just never actually read it.

Dumb question, did anyone from Channel Awesome not spiral and tailspin into irrelevancy, anger, mental illness, hatred, and Twitter personality? I mean, technically Brad Jones managed to avoid that since how do you destroy that which embraces schlock and Snuff?
