When I was a high school student, we were three friends: me,playing flute, and the other two girls oboe and horn, and we also, had a lot of fun changing the instruments.

Haha Sarah’s fingers were so far from the keys on the oboe but still good job 😂

You did much better than me!! My tiny wife is an oboist, I'm a 180cm horn player - she can get 4 octaves out of the horn and I can't even squeak an oboe reed!

Kirill Petrenko will surely put the two of you up front at the next big Berlin event. It's super to see you having fun.

I play both. In terms of actually making music, horn is (much) harder. Factor in the reed-making though, and oboe probably catches up. Stringed instruments are just as difficult as either.

True that, you’ve disconcerted the most difficult instruments 😂
@Aduysvmncmkouyf2 жыл бұрын
Hehehe, French horn is really only harder in terms of control and getting the right note, Many other instruments beat it at certain things.

As an oboist here’s my take: I’d say French Horn is definitely harder to get a clear solid sound out, especially if you’re a beginner. Oboe is definitely more time consuming. I’ve been learning reed making for a year now and it can be some of the most pain-staking work I’ve had to go through haha.

LMAO Two hard instruments. or is that too hard instruments. One of my teachers used to say. "if you practice it's easy, if you don't it's not."

I feel like violin is harder than both of them but feel free to correct me i havent played any of them
@ericli38875 жыл бұрын
8000ice they’re probably talking about wind instruments. I find it pointless to call instruments more difficult than the others, like there are simply too many factors into consideration. (Competition, physical fit, difficulty of a common part etc) What I would say is that the violin has the steepest learning curve out of all instruments, while in the wind instrument world, horn and oboe has a steeper learning curve than other instruments (I’m a bassoonist and guitarist)

8000ice to play the oboe well, it’s very difficult.
@RmDIrSudoSu3 жыл бұрын
@@JewelBlueIbanez Same for the Violin, but I completely agree with Eric li, I don't know for the oboe because I don't play it, but as a violin player, there are so many small details to learn from the very beginning to be able to have a nice tone. Plus the position which is unnatural as hell. And when I say a lot of details about the violin this is really an insanely long list... That does not make the oboe any easier, as I said I don't know for the oboe, but to play the violin well is insanely difficult. To be honest for me, there are instrument that are easier to learn at first, like the piano, then there are instrument that have a steep learning curve like the violin, horn, ... But in the end each instrument is as difficult to play at a professional level as any other instrument.

Clarinetist here. I think out of the wind instruments, the oboe and the horn are usually regarded as the most challenging instruments to learn at the beginning. They are usually more complicated for the beginners than clarinets, saxophones or trumpets etc. Of cource once you have reached a certain advanced level, all instruments are equally hard, tbh.

So it's settled. The oboe is the most difficult instrument in the world ;)

noooo, horn is! ;)

@@SarahWillisHorn Shall we settle on that the horn is the most beautiful? 🙂. And that's coming from a guitar player/singer/tenor saxophonist.

It's quite odd that many competent musicians don't seem to be aware of the basics of other instruments despite being around them so much
@forresthsu5826 жыл бұрын
Part of it is that the musculature around the face is extremely delicate, and developing decent tone on one instrument can be very detrimental to your skill in your primary at that level.

I feel like Sarah knows a lot more but she was trying to stay humble so we (audience) get to learn more from her “unawareness”. As for Albrecht, he got a fair grasp of the horn quite quickly so I would say he also knows some basics. This video is really just two amazing musicians having fun, don’t need to be too serious about it.
