Just throw a lfo on the filter cut off.. it works with any oscillator. Add some distortion for taste then eq.. for old school that is

For short reverb/fx I like to use an envelope in negative polarity to get the mix of stuff by -100%. Then every effect adding tails, rings, etc, can be controlled with the same release.
