Mister Martin lived in this grand Luxembourgish farm together with his six children and his wife Mariel. They were known as the happy farming family because they were always seen together and participated in and organized lots of activities around the charming historic village. Unfortunately, his wife passed away early on in their relationship, this left him to care alone for his 6 children at first he managed. But over time the burden got too high for him and he grabbed towards alcohol to cope with his problems, this lead to a spiral of abuse and addiction where he never recovered from… His children left him one by one until he eventually had nobody left to take care of him. In the fall of 2011, Mister Martin was rushed to the hospital for an alcohol overdose from which he never recovered. The children don’t seem to care about the house he had left behind, the resale value is slim to none in this remote part of Luxembourg, so ever since his passing it has been slowly withering away until Mother Nature claims it for herself once again.

Mr. Martin, although married young , he and his wife were very successful farmers. A beautiful home. It appears the loss of his wife caused chronic depression which was not treated. Everyone deals with the pain of loss in different ways.

It must have been so hard watching their father grieve so much over the loss of their mother. I hope they are together once more and found happiness at rest. Such a beautiful home. I can't believe that none of their children would not want to keep the place. It must hold nothing but bad memories for them. Thank you for another fascinating tour into the lives of the people who once made that home. 👍✌️

Such a sad story, the last days and years of this lonely man. The hay bale making machine is called a baler in English, I believe. I hope Mr. Martin has found peace. The most poignant thing to me is all the photos he left lying around. He must have spent time looking at them, remembering happy times with his family.

@@yuyuwin7830 Even today our children leave us. I have hope that my son will return to me. Have not seen him in over 7 years. I feel society has a way of stealing our children. We were once very close but then he grew up and chose to leave his family. We have an amazing family; his Grandparents are still alive. His Aunts and Uncles mourn as I do. You can't force anyone to be in your life. It's sad, heartbreaking but all we can do is give them up to GOD! HE will sort it out, one day, I pray! Blessings!

@@Lyndyette I am in a same situation. I was a single parent, who put myself through, college, worked and gave my son love. As he grew up, he dissociated with me . He married, and I have not heard from him for 12 years. There is something in our society, that doesn't encourage cohesiveness, and family values anymore.

Hi dear Lesley, That was such an incredibly sad background story about the farmer who was due to the loss of his beloved wife lost in the addiction with alcohol. - You told this story again in such a wonderful way in the introduction of your video with beautifully formulated words, that I got tears only from listening to you! - Wow, Lesley, my dear friend, how absolutely wonderful! Also the location was very interesting and nice to see. Some parts were still - despite of evident decay traces - still in quite a good state and looking really like frozen in some moment of time. I loved once more your absolutely highly respectful approach to the touching and sad background story as well as to the location itself with all the items left there, which you explored in that abandoned farmhouse in Luxemburg. Thank you, dear buddy, for taking us viewers through a once more very memorable Urbex location and documenting it in such a sensitive and highly compassionate way. - I wish you all the best and blessings, lots of fun and new inspirations together with your friend Maureno on your grand tour. Stay safe, my dear bro, many hugs, peace and kindest regards from now rather cold and snowy Switzerland.

I'm one of your follower now and in stage of griefing after lossing my husband two years ago, we have one daughter but living 2 hundred kilometers away. Depressions is normal after losing the love of your life and soulmate. For men ,are more harder than women, for 6 children , especially , role of a mother will be very hard to coup up for a husband, One question .For the 6 children , not even one showed love and concerned to their depressing father at that time? How sad life Mr. Martin was ! I should not blame him of being an alcoholic then, I understand his situation. Griefing is a situation that never be understood until someone experience it or at the same situations. Anyway, thank you for sharing these videos.. Watching these helps my time passing, I even have my ytube channel just to avoid too much thinking of my situations at presents. Bravo.. Love every details of your videos. I'm from Italy.

Hi Lesley, It is very hard to live with an Alcoholic, even harder to care for them. I understand that the children had to leave and make their own lives. Still a sad story. OMG a straw mattress, amazing. The farm equipment should be in a museum. It must have been dangerous having a smoking room in the Attic. I would be too scared that the house would burn down.
