I don't mean to aggravate your existential crisis, but I'd just like to highlight that the tears are not even for a "robot" but for "three pieces of plastic and a pen... old cell phone for a head" … and not even those THINGS, but just the words suggesting those things . . . this really is a seriously beautiful song … that is tapping into quite a well spring of love and lament. :-/ ;-) :-) :-D Be Well, Friend !

I have severe hearing comprehension problems and I can hear every word you say so clearly that I started crying oh my god it feels so good to just understand bc you sing your words so clearly and I know your intent wasn't to make it easier for people with hearing problems but I wanted you to know that I appreciate this so much. The song on its own is fantastic, but the fact that I can understand what you're saying without referencing a lyrics page feels so nice

I feel that. I'm hard of hearing and often have to read the lyrics before hand to even have a chance of knowing what people are saying. Their voices are always getting lost in the music or just muddled into themselves. It's nice to just, "hear" a song for once.

I had a sister that passed away. She used to listen to this song alot and I found it on her playlist so I listened to it and now ever time I think about her I listen to this as a reminder that she's still here with me it's just through this song.

Alec, never ever be sad that you brought out an emotion with the music you perform. This is exactly what all amazing performers strive to do with each and every performance! That sentiment is exactly why Merrick chose "I Built A Friend". It's an emotional story that he knew he could choreograph a dance routine that would do the same. Bring out an emotion in each an every audience member. Great job on the song and the attention it's getting thanks to Merrick's choice.

I box and fight but this video Alec Benjamin got me hard I just sat here listening and did something I haven't done in so long cry, I cried thinking about all the things I lost. this song reminds me on how I met a friend at 2 years old, we became best friends forever... for 11 years we had so much fun together, but then... we had to both go to different places.. we kept in touch before...we never talked again, at the end of this reminds me of the doors closing splitting us apart. I cried at this song due to my remember my best friend that understood my feelings and struggles.

I remember when I first listened to this song... I was 15 and had no issues in life except trying to hang out with friends, he wasn’t famous or anything, it was genuinely pure. Now I’m on college and really miss those times. I know they won’t ever come back

I was not a normal child. When I was a kid, I made my first friend in kindergarten. From then until third grade, I only had one friend. I made my first human friend in third grade. From kindergarten until third grade, my only friend was the one I made out of Legos. I have a love for him that I have for few other things in this world. When I was scared of the dark, I would just look at him and think, "He'll protect me" and then go right to sleep. Whenever I felt sad or lonely, I would just remember him. When I realized I was spending as much time with him as I used to, I decided to build him a friend. I still have the both of them, and I love them with all my heart. If something were to happen to them, it would break my heart. When I first heard this song, I remember him, and started to cry. I cried because I remembered how happy he made me. I cried because I thought about how I would react if I lost him. This song is amazing, and don't let anyone ever tell you differently.

This song definitely made me feel something. Alec's songs have such meaningful lyrics it just tells a whole story and i seriously am in love with his voice and music. He truly is so talented and his voice is so unique. He put his hard work into making songs and all of them are amazing stories people can relate to. Hes so passionate about his music and i'm so happy for him.

This song reminds me of my old dog Rilke. My parents had him before I was even born, and I loved him so much. He died in 2014 and I am still missing him to this day. Same thing with my 4th grade teacher. She passed away from cancer a few years ago. She was one of my favorite teachers. I miss them so much. This song is beautiful. Please keep doing what you’re doing. This is really inspiring. Thank you so much....

This song really brings back memories. The first time I heard Alec Benjamin, the times when I was still in college, the times when things we're just as simple as going to school and go back home. My biggest fear back then was getting old and the things that would really make me sad is looking back at these memories. I'm sorry if this looks like I'm telling a story that no one cares, I just feel so heavy inside. To those who kept on reading, thank you ^_^

Alec, I hope you'll notice this. :) One night, I was looking for some good songs in YT then I found your video "Paper Crown" and I was like, "OH GOD I SOOO LOVE THIS ONE". Then I sent the video link to my friend and he also loved it. Later on, we keep on playing your music because it's soo darn good and empathic and nostalgic. Then I heard this one, to tell you honestly I cried a lot because it reminded me of my friend. Last week, your songs became famous in our classroom. :) I'm from the Philippines , btw. I'm sick of the agt comments. Guys, we get it. Someone danced to this song. But this song is a tribute to someone who passed from suicide. Show respect instead of commenting stuff like "why does a song about a robot make me cry :(" or "I used to have an imaginary friend, I miss themmmmm" it's not about a robot or imaginary friend, it's about a real human. "Im just here from agt" cool, we know a lot of people are, but Alec deserves recognition for putting his personal feelings out there and shouldn't have his work overshadowed by someone dancing to his story (not taking away from the work of that dancer, he (?) did a great job) Edit: spelling

Merrick Hanna and America's Got Talent brought me here. His interpretive dance of this song left my family and myself completely silent and in awe. I don't think I would have ever heard this or ever listened to the words had it not been for that. The song is great but if you never attach the emotion and heart break to it, you'll miss it. This song needs to be fealt...... and I can feel it now. Great job.
